DCS (Digital Combat Simulator) Catch-All

Me too, if this is different from the Mud Movers group.

Nope same group!

Huey promo video - not bad.

There's HMMWVs....so it's relatively modern, and they use Hueys instead of Blackhawks? When is this set?

DCS is current, A-10C upgrade rollout started in 2005, just keep in mind that they also recently added a P-51d. I would guess that a lot of it depends on what they can get enough clearance on in order to meet their simulation goals.

It's not current if you can fly Hueys (in combat) and P51s (at all), I'm sorry. (It was a rhetorical question)

It was a rather odd choice. The Battlefield itself is modern, including up-to-date military equipment for Russian and US sides. Then there's the huey, P-51, BF109, and other study sim aircraft in development. I'm thinking they'll add another region for the WWII era craft at some point but if you just stick with flying the A-10, Black Shark, or any of the LOMAC aircraft you're getting a current modern battlefield.

DCS Huey is now available for pre-purchase.

Price seems a bit steep, but I'll grab it anyway since I love helos.

What's everyone using for pedals. Huey has forced me into acquiring a pair.. I don't want to spend a ton.

What's a ton? I have the Saitek Combat Pros [$175] and they're decent. I don't know how much better they are than the base Saiteks [$94] though.

I can't tell you how annoyed I am that Thrustmaster doesn't have a set anymore. While it's less of an issue these days, it would be nice to combine the HOTAS and pedals into one (gimped down) virtual joystick for the games that don't recognize three devices.

$100 is my limit.

I found the base Saitek's for $99 shipped. Consensus seems to be that they are fine. Plastic, but sturdy.

If you are interested in flying Huey.. be warned that it is a Female Doggo to fly without pedals.

I've the Saitek X52 - the base version - and they've held up well. I've just started in on A-10 and I'm having a hell of a time getting them configured. Anybody:

- have a decent profile they're using?
- can tell me how to configure the throttle and joystick rotation as analog so they can be recognized in the game?

Thanks!!

Moggy I'm talking about pedals, I already have the X52 Pros. I configure everything in game.

Anyone flying Huey? Having a lot of fun with it, especially with my new pedals.

They released a FM update yesterday which makes it much "easier" to fly.

DCS World is now out.
I'm really hoping the A10 game I bought means I get the A10 "DLC".
I'm also looking forward to getting the P51-D "DLC".
They're basically my two favorite planes, and I am unlikely to come up with the $250k (last time I checked) required for a P-51 reproduction.

Wait...you can get a reproduction P-51 for only $250k? I'd assumed they were way more expensive than that (hell, a new Cessna costs that).

Too bad the Serial Codes are not STEAM compatible.

? ? ? I bought A-10C on Steam. Will I be able or not to use the code for that in Steam's DCS World? (PC dead now, sorry, can't check myself.)

You know that's a good question if you bought it stand alone. I'm a previous customer, so it's not the same situation. I would think you could install DCS World through STEAM, and then enter the unlock code through DCS World since it's a plug-in. Tempting to try it myself, but I already have the thing installed outside STEAM.

You cannot use the old code to unlock a module in STEAM the way you would unlock a standard game. I tried it out of curiosity. The format is wrong.

It works the other way, you can use the Steam key to activate the game standalone. At least it worked for A-10c. It used to be that Steam lagged behind (maybe still does) so it was basically a requirement.

Yet another helicopter module rears its rotors.

Open beta of DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight now available for $49.99.

All those lovely, lovely soviet-era toggle switches! Oh yes please.

Add Rift support and I'll pay 100.

This is unexpected good news:

To better support our Steam customers, we have merged all DCS activation keys (with the exception of the Black Shark 2 Upgrade) to the Steam database. This will allow DCS users to use DCS activation keys purchased outside of Steam to activate their DLC modules within Steam.
We also soon plan to release DCS: UH-1H Huey as an "Early Access" download on Steam.

The bad part being that the BS2 Upgrade is the key that's caused me the most headaches when I've needed to re-install, so that's the one that would be most important to me to import.

I think I'm done with old choppers for a while. I need a fast mover!!!

You guys see the new Kickstarter for DCS WWII? The initial setting is Western Front 1944 and they're going with a free to play model with additional aircraft to purchase. I'm a huge fan of the idea and hope it works out, but don't really see the incentive to contribute right now considering the FtP future.

Um, because if everyone thinks that way, there won't *be* a FTP version?

Damn shame it's FtP, that model irks me so much that I don't really enjoy the games. You can't run your own servers, and the game will go away as soon as they get tired of doing so. And the community usually isn't allowed to mod things, and is left helpless when the game dies.

Planes can be flown by following actual historical flight manuals without the need to refer to in-game documentation!

Just had a thought: it would be very cool if they sent you a physical reproduction of the original manual when you bought a $50 plane. It would feel much more like you'd bought something real.

But I still wouldn't go for it. FtP makes games suck.

I dunno, Path of Exile is pretty good, Malor.

Also Planetside 2, despite the whiners on their forums.

Man.. these guys have some suspect business practices.

2 weeks after releasing the latest module, it's on sale for over half price. I learned my lesson after they did the same with Huey.
