GWJ OOTP League Thread

Double Posted for how seriously committed to mediocrity I am.

Is there a sim tonight? L.A. and Brooklyn might have something cooking, just can't check things until I get to work tomorrow.

I believe we are past the trade deadline, but if not, can we please hold off till tomorrow afternoon?

We are past the trade deadline, but I will hold off on the sim until tomorrow afternoon.

Please note, because we are past the deadline, that means any trades you make, the players must clear waivers first.

Um, I know there's a new file and all, but it just doesn't feel the same unless Prederick says it, y'know?

3 games behind Denver still. Grrrr.

New File!

There we go!

TOTALLY forgot to do that. Silly me.

NF stands for new file!

I noticed we aren't getting our weekly summaries anymore. Did you stop doing those or is my game messing up?

That's very weird. I don't think I turned them off. let me check during Sunday's update.

I noticed it a while ago, but since my team tends to lose all the time, I wasn't going to complain about the missing summaries.

Back, back, back, back.....

in the standings.

One more year, then all the dopey long term contracts I made with people who could not find a hit if they lived in a shack made of hits on Hit Island surrounded by nothing but hits will be (mostly) over. And then I take dynamite to this team.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to some actual rebuilding the Knights in about three or four seasons.

Dude!!!

Ya, there's some ridiculous numbers on the Hot/Cold list. Charlotte has three guys that are even more productive than the three I have on there.

Okay, we've only simmed a day today, because of a hiccup.

That hiccup is in Los Angeles. Ron McCauley's refusing to be demoted, as he has the right to. Ya'll better figure out what you wanna do with him.

New file, bee-tee-dub.

Taken care of. Sorry about that.

Are we going to sim a couple extra days this next sim and go to the roster expansion?

No. What we ARE going to do to make up for lost time however is sim tonight.

And tomorrow.

AND Friday!

Baltimore, you tried to demote Jeremy Ross. Problem, he's a vet, with the right to refuse demotion. And he did. So he's back on the ML roster.

New file, anyway.

How does the delayed demotion refusal thing happen? When I try to demote someone that refuses, the game tells me right away.

Someone clearly wants to demote a guy, but they have to DFA him and wait for him to clear waivers. I sim, and he gets to the end of his DFA time. The game alerts me to this as commish, so I try and place him on the AAA squad for people, and occasionally, i'll get bounce-back if the player refuses or needs to be on the 40-man roster, et cetera.

I think I've asked this before, but how do waiver claims work? I saw there was a CF on waivers a few sims back, but when I tried to claim him the game immediately bounced back saying another team had higher priority. So, I guess I have two questions:

1. How is priority determined?
2. How long is the waiver window? I might have missed this player previously, but I felt like it was the first time I had ever seen the player on the waiver wire and he had already been claimed. Is it possible that a CPU team claimed him during a sim period and human owners didn't get a chance to place a claim?

(EDIT: Looks like a human owner did claim him, so the player must have been on the wire previously. Nevermind. Damn you BillT for taking Garcia--that is one hell of a player for the league minimum )

Garcia was supposed to be part of a trade package, but both my players had waiver claims put on them. I've pulled them back.

Ok, so as one of the guys who put a claim on the waiver wire, please help clear something up for me:

I thought the only reason a player would end up on the waiver wire is (based on when I've had to do it to my own player) when you want to demote them but the game requires you to put them on waivers until they clear, then you can demote them to the minors.

Given that, I haven't previously felt bad about claiming a good player that someone else (be they AI or human) is trying to demote. I figure hey, I'll put them to good use, come on over to the Knights!

However, I was unaware that putting a claim on a player who's on waivers could screw up a trade. What's up with that? That doesn't seem very fair. FWIW Slumberland, if I'd realized the player I put a claim on was part of a trade package, I wouldn't have put a claim on them, because that seems (to my noobish self) to be kind of a dick move.

Naw, it's totally fair. We figured the A.I. teams would jump in, but looks like the humans are paying attention too.

We'll probably revisit it in the off-season, if anything.

After the trade deadline, all players being traded have to pass through waivers.

Exactly. Which makes it highly unlikely that a trade featuring a five-star centerfielder making the league minimum would actually go down after the All-Star break, but we gave it a rip anyway.

Also, I may be a dick (the truth of which I freely admit) but I consider anybody on the waiver wire to be fair game.

Hmm. Might've been the AI. I haven't uploaded in a while. Ross? Wasn't he doing terribly? Might as well release him.
