That tree still has quite aggressive sexual tendencies.

So I finally watched this movie. I have one question still outstanding... During the beginning office pool. The monster board has "Kevin"

I wanna know what a Kevin is!!!

Good question, and my Google-fu is masterful.

Among the various possible monsters on the control room white board, one of them is just listed as "Kevin." Although Kevin is never seen, in the tie-in book The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion co-writer Drew Goddard said that Kevin was meant to be "a sweet-looking guy who seemed like he might work at Best Buy--until he dismembers people."

Add me to the late to the party but loved the movie group.

Thanks jayhawker!

Gahhhhhh!!! Elijah Wood did such a great acting job being that creeper.

Yeah I was thinking "Sin City" or a twisted spoof of "Up".

I finally saw it! I knew about them being watched and all, but didn't know the why. I kinda figured the stoner would come back, he's the only one we don't see die onscreen, duh.
Did anybody notice that when Last Girl Standing had a weapon, they flipped a switch to make her drop it? They definitely paid attention to things characters do in movies that get them killed.
I knew he wouldn't make the motorcycle jump, but I figured he'd just fall rather than hit the force field, but I should've known there would be a callback at some point.
Wish we'd seen the horrors duke it out a bit more, I know that in the first breakout scene, the killer robot was slicing anything, including the giant snake next to it.
Was the giant tentacle that grabbed Fred from Angel, Amy Acker ever seen in the boxes? That thing's a little large.

Not really that surprising since I've liked everything by Whedon that I've ever seen (except Angel, Angel's stupid).

That was hilarious.

Now on Netflix Instant! GO GO GO!

So I only recently saw it, and while I liked it, I was expecting a bit more horror and was disappointed that the underground control room bits kept destroying whatever tension they'd been building since the last one.
I also think the ending was rather dumb, even in context. Before the anti-Initiative started arranging these rituals, the gods must have been running loose & wreaking havoc on humanity. It's extremely unlikely that they'd wipe out all of humanity over missing one year of the proper sacrifices, because then they'd never get another one. I think it would be far more likely that they'd angrily & bloodily remind humanity that they exist and make the world a living hell for quite some time, but they'd also leave survivors who would try a lot harder to keep them satisfied and not miss another sacrifice.
Despite those complaints, I really did like it.

You're anthropomorphizing the gods. Maybe they just like killing a lot and have moved onto bigger and better things.

Maybe, but if that's the case, why were they pacified for so many millennia by only a handful of deaths a year?

Symbolic deaths. The very nature of human sacrifice is so a few can die to save a lot. These teens are tortured so that the Ancient Ones get a good show and stay on the couch.

And once again, Canadian subscribers don't get it. Guess I will have to watch it using Tunlr.

Amazon has it also, if they have Prime in Canada...

Watched this and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil on Sunday. I now have two new favorite horror movies, and I'm not sure which one wins out.

Just watched this as part of my October celebration of horror/spooky media! Freaking amazing, stupendous, wow!

I'm with the people who wish there could be a sequel, if not for that ending.
