Giant Bomb Bomb-All

You're not wrong. But we're pretty off topic here, so to recalibrate the conversation a bit, that's why I said yes and no. The DS games featured some great new ideas, but I think Skyward Sword does as well and IIRC Brad pretty much discounted that when making the assessment.

I couldn't speak to that; I skipped Skyward Sword. But yeah, at the end of the day I'll agree with your "yes and no" assessment. Phantom Hourglass is absolutely worth playing if you're looking for a twist on the Zelda formula, and Spirit Tracks is decent if you liked PH and want more of that style.

How's Jeff ignorant about Yoshi's Island?

I didn't mean that game specifically (although to claim the game looks ugly means you must be delusional), more that Brad and Jeff like to state that a certain game or mechanic in a game is bad even if they never spent more than half an hour with it.

Call me the delusional Goebbels, I guess.

Dibs on Goering.

Carry on.

I was going to post this exact same thing, word for word! Well, at least something to that effect. For once, it made me thankful that Patrick was there.

Agreed. Jeff was right about NiGHTS though.

You're all just so brave. It's inspiring.

I don't see how people thing Patrick was challenging Jeff. He essentially stuck his fingers in his ears and said "Lalalalalalalala" any time Jeff said something negative about the game. He didn't challenge him on anything he said. I enjoyed Yoshi's Island when I was a kid and I watch a lot of speed runs of it but everything that Jeff said was accurate. He may have been a little harsh but he wasn't wrong. To me, Patrick came off as somebody who hasn't played the game since he was nine or somebody who's opinion on the game is based entirely on what the internet told him. And, since it's Patrick, I'm inclined to think it's the latter.

They all ham it up for the show, Jeff and Ryan more so than the others. Patrick didn't want to play the devils advocate when he hasn't played the game it a while, so I think that's fine. So is hamming it up.

The conversation was still interesting, the idea of tagging a not really related game with a '2' to prop it up on the success of the first.

In terms of the new Zelda games, I had a lot of fun with Twilight Princess on the Gamecube, but it was also my first Zelda game. I haven't been able to make it very far in any other I've tried, even LTTP. If you have played and enjoyed more than 1 Zelda game, you will probably enjoy the DS ones. I could only take one. They are too long and similar. Metroid on the other hand is so short that I enjoyed playing through most of the 2D ones in very close proximity.

I think part of it was that he didn't want to have that argument on the podcast, rather than not wanting to have that argument at all.

I got the feeling it was something they'd needled him with before, much the same way my friends and I needle one another with things we know mildly annoy the other person. At some point you just don't respond, because responding is only going to feed the beast.

Though I still found the conversation very amusing, I must say.

Yeah, I think it was more he didn't want to argue on the show. Patrick is not one to shy away from debate. Try levying criticism of Apple products directly at him some time.

Like with many things, I tend to fall a bit in the middle on Yoshi's Island. I like the game quite a bit and am very interested to see the new one that's coming but I also don't think it's the masterpiece level game many others do and Baby Mario...ugh, no. I'll still take Super Mario World over it but yeah, Jeff's extreme opinion is bonkers.

He said that he hadn't played the game since he was a kid during the podcast, and thus he wasn't equipped to counter Jeff's opinion.

Ryan Davis is the foundation and Gilligan of Giant Bomb.

Vinny Caravella is the Ginger Grant.

Jeff Gerstmann is The Skipper.

As much as I love Brad, he and Patrick are the weakest personalities of the bunch.

True. Does this make them Mary Ann?

Well, one of them is the professor.

Yup! Any combination of Jeff, Ryan, and Vinny is guaranteed to be a riot. More of a wild card with Brad and Patrick.

I always feel bad for Brad though. He tries so hard, you just have to root for him.

Patrick on the other hand just tried too hard and it's difficult to stomach him sometimes. He does go for it though, I'll give him that. And the 1UP.com connection will continue to give him a boost for a least a little while longer for me.

I really like Brad and there a lot of times I really like Patrick. I just feel the chemistry between Jeff, Ryan, and Vinny is fantastic. They all have the same sense of humour.

Agreed. I guess that means Patrick is Mary Ann. That just leaves Drew as Thurston Howell III.

And so I give you Gilligan's Island as portrayed by the Giant Bomb crew.

I like them both, but I agree. They take themselves very seriously. Am I wrong in thinking that these two are the youngest of the crew? Part of it may be that compared to Vinny, Ryan, and Jeff, you see less funny from these two.

Patrick is 28 and by far the youngest. Ryan, Brad, and Vinny all turn 34 this year. Jeff is the oldest at 37.

If you hadn't told me, I would've thought he was barely 20 due to how young he looks. And his new goatee looks almost fake, haha.

I can relate though. I've always looked younger than my age, which is a curse when you're actually young, but a blessing once you pass 30.

Good, I'll keep that in mind.
