Mayday! This Pile is Going Down

Pages

Who are we kidding? There's no way this pile is going away. We'll be lucky to knock a game or two off of it before we add three more to it.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Dishonored

"You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the Empress. Framed for her murder and driven by revenge, you must become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card.
As you navigate a world torn apart by plague and oppressed by a government armed with strange new technologies, the truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city.
The choices you make will determine the fate of the world, but no matter what happens your old life is gone forever. (www.dishonored.com)"

Woot! First post!

I think this month is going to be a time to catch up on strategy, with the exception of the Walking Dead which I'm carrying over (just started episode 3).

So here are my pledges:

Napoleon Total War
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Walking Dead
Defense Grid: The Awakening

I'm starting to think that committing to a game in these threads is practically a guarantee that I won't touch it for the month. So what would I like to neglect in May? Lemme think about it.

I declare Sleeping Dogs + DLC on 360!

I also declare that pad thai is delicious and that dirty martinis are a great spring/summer/fall/winter drink!

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty (PC) or Mega Man Anniversary Collection (PS2/multi). I think one of these will be beaten by end of the month, but no promises since I have some newer stuff keeping me busy at the moment.

Still working (slowly) on Demon's Souls (PS3) so might as well put me down for that.

Demon's Souls (PS3). I think I have a chance at finishing it this month, having finished nearly half of it already.

I'll likely put in some time on some smaller games, but not sure so I'll check in with them as I get somewhere with them.

So I'm not really sure how these work? You just name a game that you want to complete by the end of the month right? If that's the case then God of War III (PS3).

I'm queuing up Alan Wake (Multi) and Dead Space (Multi) this month. Not sure why it's such a horror month for me.

Just to brighten up my gaming a bit this month, I think it's also time I put Pokemon Black Version 2 (DS). It couldn't possible be nightmare fuel, right?

FTFY Confooooorrrrrrmmm!

Yeah, you did it right. Just make sure anything claimed is more than 3 months old and that anything that is multiplatform is noted as such like Shadow of the Colossus (Muiti) since it has the HD version on PS3.

I think I'm with you on this one, Clock. I've put the same three games on my monthly list for the past two months, and end up playing/finishing something completely different. So, I'll be bowing out from committing to a specific game at the moment.

That's basically where I'm at too. I did finish Spec Ops last month, but didn't finish either Deus Ex or To The Moon, despite only have 3 to 4 hours remaining between those two. I mostly played Luigi's Mansion instead.

I'll carry over Deus Ex (PC) and To The Moon (PC), but frankly if I don't finish those up in the next week or so, I will likely drop them both. I'll worry about whether to declare anything else later.

Put me down for StarCraft II Wings of Liberty as well. Thanks.

The time has come to start knocking some of this SP stuff I have sitting around!

I ended up saving Arkham City(360) for May, since I'll be down on the couch for a couple of days post-surgery. Until then, I'm going to work my way through Saints Row the Third(PC).

Still on Neverwinter Nights 2!

In a furious binge on a day when I should have been outside, I plowed through the final 24 levels of the Plutonia Experiment campaign in Final Doom (PC/multi - I can't imagine how people actually played this on the PS1! It's crazy-hard!). That rounds out the "trilogy" of Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom, which I've had for over 18 years now. Beat all of them in the last 7 months. If I never see another pixelated Revenant shooting homing rockets at me, it'll be too soon.

My declarations for the month:

To the Moon (PC) - one hour in. Apparently just a few more to go.
The Last Story (Wii) - one hour in. Lots more to go. Not sure if I'm gonna get used to this almost-auto combat.
Sine Mora (PC/multi) - Should be able to mop this up if I ever load it again.

There'll be plenty to do. One of the things The Last Story does really well is expand and evolve its combat system throughout the game so that you're always learning something new without feeling like you're being either overwhelmed or kept too long in tutorial mode.

Well, I'm a meat and taters kinda man, so Demon's Souls is my flavor of the month. To spice it up, I'm bringing in two stalwarts from April; The Gunstriger and Cthulhu Saves...

I really do hope I make it 3 for 3 this month.

Yakuza 4 (PS3).

I'm so frustrated that I left a declared game unfinished last from April! I was so consistent! Oh, well, I'm still doing pretty darn well for the year. Here's my declarations for May:

Penumbra: Overture (PC)
Demon's Souls (PS3)
Avernum: Escape from the Pit (PC)
God of War III (PS3)

Thanks!

Oh my gosh, how could you!!! To the Moon was so great, I looooooved it!!!!

On my end... Like Clocky, like CptDomano, I truly wonder if I should commit to anything... Guess I'll carry over Skyrim's Dawnguard (Multi-platform). Thinking about other games, but won't declare anything else for now. Especially since we'll be able for an entire week starting tomorrow. Might declare something when I get back, we'll see.

This is a lie. I fired up Bayonetta (Multi) last night and will definitely be playing through that this month. Also putting Batman: Arkham City (Multi) on the list as well.

I did okay last month... 2/3, with an undeclared game tossed into the mix for fun.

This month I'll try:

Grotesque Tactics (PC) - My failure from last month. I feel like I'm halfway through, or perhaps a bit further
Breath of Death VII (PC) - I've played 30m so far.
Portal 2 (PS3 / multi) - I'm going to start on the PS3, but might end up moving over to the PC.
Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) - This is pile eligible on May 4th.... hope no one minds me declaring it a touch early.

So I'm gonna declare Game Dev Tycoon (Multi) for this month. Pretty much a given that I'll beat it at least once.

I'm about 2 hours into Jeanne D'arc on the PSP so I'll declare that for May. With several work trips planned in May, I should have plenty of time to work on this game.

Let's go with my new purchases! Please, put me down for Mega Man IV (Multi), Liberation Maiden (Multi), and Aero Porter (3DS).

My final exams for the semester will be finished on Monday!!! I'll be able to get back to some of the games I've been ignoring.

Please mark me down for Saints Row III(Multi), Dead Space(Multi), and Torchlight(PC).

I might actually have some weekends in May!

Put me down for Dead Island (Multi), Dark Souls (Multi) and The Witcher 2 (Multi)!

I'm going to try and 100% complete Dead Island (360/Multi), Backyard Sports: Sandlot Sluggers (360/Multi), and Viva Piñata: Party Animals (360).

Ok, so Alan Wake is over and done with. If I have another normal week at work, as opposed to working overtime and odd hours, I might have to add more to my list for the month.

I'm dropping Deus Ex. Yes, an hour from the end. The middle was really good, and the start probably would have been good if I hadn't played before, but the end has some real pacing issues. People complain about games being short these days and how Deus Ex was the pinnacle of gaming, but longer isn't always better, nevermind some of the control issues. I barely used my powers because hitting the correct F-key is tough during actiony bits, though maybe that's me being primarily a console gamer for a long time and therefore not having the muscle memory built up. There is a lot of good stuff in it -- I see why people are nostalgic for it -- but I suspect it just hasn't aged well. I might try it again in a couple years.
