I read that there will be a patch for the multiplayer that will reduce the time to hit the prestiges.
Also, Sleeping Dogs is on sale for $19.99 (US) for the Games on Demand version. I know it's a good game but I have a bit of an issue with not getting a physical copy. I figure I have until the end of the day to grab it.

Or, alternatively, get it for half that again...
Lazy bids, you'd get it for sub $20 soon enough.

Still doesn't make any sense to me...
Maybe it will once I start the game.
It seems ok but fairly simple. I am not generally into multiplayer though, so take it with a grain of salt. I wonder if they were inspired by the multiplayer in the Uncharted series?
We made it with 8 TA points to spare, nicely done team!

Now you're just trying to out do the Dandies with their 1 point elimination... Congrats!
I have a giant stack of games that I've been meaning to get back to some day, and I realized that I am extremely unlikely to do that. I'd rather play new stuff. So, I'm clearing out my collection if anyone is looking for deals on 360 games.
This giant stack is up for trade.
Hey, look at that, up to 1.9!

OK.
Given some of the recent GWJ speculation generated by info aired on Polygon, ahead of the May 21 announcement, how do you think the 'roving' achievements (ie Cheevs between titles, related to other games) will impact the TA formula?
I know they just applied a new formula to DLC cheevs, but will there be similar heated debate surrounding these 'socially motivated/derived' achievements, or will they be quarantined differently?
Hell, do we even think that Next Box will play nicely with existing data gathering techniques employed by TA?
Not looking to duplicate the discussion in the other thread, more of a focus on the score component issues it might create.
As an even crazier idea, anyone thinking about using the Next box as a chance to zero their score, and start from scratch with a new identity even? Sally720 for instance?
I've obviously been out of the achievement game for awhile now, but the roving achievements make them even less interesting to me. Achievements that span multiple games are just ads, and the community ones would be annoying to me, at worst, but most likely ignored.
I dunno. I've said for awhile that achievements can be great tools to motivate players to explore new content or new ways of approaching old content. They still are, but there's no need for an arbitrary, unified system to do that, and turning achievements into advertisements and ways of getting players to schedule time for your game kinda puts things over the top.
I see sites like TA becoming even more niche if those rumored changes are true, with some very philosophically-oriented ideas toward which achievements "count" and which don't.
I used to love the thrill of the cheev, and I've played a metric crap tonne of crap games to inflate my epeen. I remember four or five years ago, when I first noticed that little number, a mate of mine was ahead of me by 2K, I was sitting on 4K. With a little effort, I doubled my score in a year, I then found TA, and "it was on".
I do feel some remorse, looking back. If I take all the f*cking awesome games I have sitting in my pile at the moment, and overlay them over the time I've spent playing less than brilliant games 'just for score', I'd have had a 'better' few years of gaming. Hindsight and all that.
I remember reading that Gamerscore was an afterthought by one of the original MS Devs who worked on the console. They never expected it to be what it has become. The fact that GS can now drive sales (easy 1Ks, DLC being side stepped for having 'no-Cheevs') is crazy.
The fact that it is now being tied to business strategies and models is scary. If they mess it up, then I think the whole thing will just implode in a giant mess, which will be a real shame for the majority of people that have put so much time into their pursuit.
Spoilered for possible GTFO and overly personalized point of view of cheevs.
Cheevs are fun, but they also tickle that reward centre of the brain a little too much. If you're not in a good space mentally (raises hand) then that kind of validation can become dangerously addictive. Have a week without popping a cheev? My mood would plummet. It sounds silly, and even now, reading this back, it falls into WTF territory, but that is how that 'plock' noise effected me.
Don't get me wrong, I've just bought a Windows8 phone, so I can cheev-on-the-go, but I think even that is going to lose it's allure eventually.
I look forward to the event in May, but if it's not something that amazes me, then I have enough on my pile (and backlogged pile) to skip this next gen entirely. Writing that scares me more than anything. I think I'm getting old...
When achievements are too expansive, for example with WoW, then I loose all interest. Not that I was ever an avid achievement hunter to start with. I have played some games, like Mass Effect, more in order to land some of the achievements and I'm glad I did. In some cases some positive encouragement/manipulation via achievements can be a good thing. I'm pretty good at ignoring them when it comes to playing games or DLC I'm not otherwise interested in.
In multiplayer I've never been interested in ranked matches or levelling my character to some ridiculously distant level cap but I can see the benefit of encouraging players who do care about those things to keep playing a multiplayer game I enjoy. Achievements, in some respects, could do good things. The trick might be to stay aware of the manipulation involved and not get too caught up in them for their own sake.
I guess I don't really care specifically about my GS, but I know that achievement hunting has lead me to make some great friends over xbox live (DrJekl, Monkey, Clocky and Minarchist to name but a few - hell, I guess I could just say everyone in this thread and it still hold very true). If they change the system, meh whatever. For me achievements are much more about the social aspect of gaming than any silly numberical score that I chase by myself. If I am competitive at all about my GS, it is because I have friends with which to compete.

I agree. Crazy people like Stallion that play 'all games, no matter what' are a special blend of nuts.
Making our Fable Baby is the highlight of what achievements can accomplish for me and helped me over come my own 'sad bastard playing sh*t for score' mindset. Thanks and all that
In terms of official announcements Clem, at this stage, I think we are the rampant speculation

All the Honeycut:)
I like getting achievements and my inner completionist does not like the idea of having community and/or date specific achievements. I would prefer that these things go toward in-game challenges, banners, characters, and/or avatar gear.
Anyway, over the past year I subjected myself to some stupid grinds to complete a game or knock out multiplayer achievements (Bad Company multiplayer almost destroyed me) and I stopped enjoying these grinds. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy working on the grindy stuff if I'm playing with GWJ folks or my other group of folks from TA, but I think I'm done with the other random garbage that's kept me from playing some of those good games on my pile (Red Dead, Alan Wake, Bioshock Infinite). So I think I'm looking forward to the possible change in the achievements because I don't think it will stop from enjoying game or bull$hitting with people about the game/achievements.
Damn my dumb baby games that keep bringing down my ratio!

they bring down the ratio, but increase your completion percentage, so it's not a total loss right?
