Futurama - New Season Coming in 2010

Public Service Necro: Futurama Season 7 Premiere Tonight 10/9C comedy central!

Squeee! Awwww, bummer. I don't have Comedy Central. I suppose they won't go up on Hulu either.

Good news everyone! My DVR is all set to record the premier! (Stupid late shift at work)

Dang, it isn't available on itunes yet.

Thanks for the heads up! 2 eps!

More episodes?

I have really enjoyed the seasons on Comedy Central but I knew that it wasn't going to last. I'm not sure what kind of budget they had but unless they had big viewership numbers it wasn't going to make Comedy Central enough money. I appreciate the extra seasons we got though.

If Matt Groening tries bring it back for a third time, I hope they don't go the multi-part DVD movie route. I'd rather have a few individual episodes or hour long specials. Also, keep the original cast or don't bother.

I enjoyed the newer seasons immensely, but I wouldn't exactly say the show was being cut down in its prime either. Sucks, but Oh Well.

EDIT: Goddam apostrophe, always getting in the way

I feel the same. I think that at this point, there is plenty of content to just rewatch.

Edit: It's like it was never there.

Much obliged.

Anyway, Futurama. It's getting cancelled in a much different era this time. There's still nothing like Futurama, but there are shows that are doing very similar things.

I stopped watching Futurama about a season ago. I felt like it just wasn't near the caliber of show it used to be. I'm sad to see it go, but can't say I'm surprised.

Wow, I am starting to feel like the only one who has been enjoying the Comedy Central seasons more than the original run (NOT the DVD movie episodes - I wasn't a fan of those). I can't really explain why though. I think the humor has been more on target with my tastes.

I wouldn't say I've been enjoying them more, but I've definitely been enjoying them. I think the quality has been improving each season, to the point where it's approaching the original.

This will likes never happen, but apparently Major Nelson dropped into a thread on /r/futurama and said that he was going to "suggest to people at Microsoft" that they re-revive Futurama as an Xbox Live exclusive series.

John DiMaggio and Billy West indicated at the "I Know That Voice" panel that all hope isn't lost for Futurama coming back again in yet another form..

...god damn it. I really hope Hulu or Netflix beats them to the punch so I can get this in a legit fashion.

Arise, thread!

This probably doesn't deserve its own thread, and this was the most recent one I could find that was relevant to Futurama.

I figured it was worth mentioning that this Sunday's Simpsons will be a Futurama crossover.

The couch gag for it:

Yeah, they're re-starting it alright, but also apparently low-balling John DiMaggio enough that he isn't involved, and the deal is not "being finalized" despite what those articles say.

A casting call went out for a replacement voice actor for Bender two weeks before the first table read is supposed to happen.

Which is, you know, not a great look.

The article I saw about it Thursday said that DiMaggio rejected their initial offer but is still “in negotiations” and they’re just bringing in someone else for the table reads in case they can’t come to an agreement by then. DiMaggio is leveraging his character’s popularity to up his asking price (which I can’t fault him for doing) and they’re trying to scare him into just shutting up and taking the money.

Not as excited for the new series, but going through this old thread is amazing. So many names I haven't thought about in years.

Apparently he was offered a deal similar to the ones Billy West and Katey Sagal agreed to, so while I think they all deserve as much money as they can get, it doesn't seem like Hulu is trying to lowball him, and I don't think he should get more money than West or Sagal are getting. Hopefully, if he does get however much extra that he's asking for, they will too.

I remember seeing a similar tactic of the Simpson's planning to recast Harry Shearer when their contracts came up for renewal. There's apparently a lot of treatment of voice actors as second-class citizens in the acting industry. There's also been talk of a boycott by fans if they re-cast bender.

I definitely won't watch it.

Yeah it's pretty widely accepted hollywood does not value voice actors nearly as much as they should. Like they talk about this like Bender is the only character DiMaggio voiced, but he's not. Good voice actors end up filling in sometimes large numbers of other lesser characters, often without meaningful additional pay. Barbados Slim? DiMaggio. Elzar? DiMaggio. He even filled in as Robot Santa when John Goodman wasn't available.

Katey Sagal has plenty of other work available, I think, so I would wager she just has less skin in the game. She's an already working actor who's taking a voice acting job on top. And Billy West as far as I can tell doesn't have as much recognition and so has less negotiating power.

So every time I see a voice actor attempt to force a studio to pay them better, I generally will root for them. DiMaggio is one of very few real dedicated voice actors with enough recognition to even attempt pushing them like this.

I'm not supporting this trash. I bought the complete season of futurama and now my collection isn't complete. This selfish jerks took away my collection and replaced it with a incomplete collect. I can't just buy the new season, it wont match my other discs and wont fit in the collector's box. This is a crime and I was personally attacked. I can't think of anything worse than this that has ever happen.

People need to fight this before they enslave us and crush us under their boots. This is why the bender voice actor isn't coming back because he supports justice.

Looks like Futurama alright. I'll be watching it.
