Things you should know by now, but only just discovered

I know Firefox hotkeys have come up here a few times so I may be repeating others, but nonetheless;

ctrl-tab = tab to the right of current in tab bar becomes active
ctrl-shift-tab = tab to the left of current in tab bar becomes active

both are circular shifts. For all the tabbed browsing I do I really should have known this ages ago.

Usually works in any program with multiple tabs/windows. Except Word/Excel, for whatever reason.

Also: CTRL-T opens a new tab, CTRL-Shift-T reopens the last closed tab

Also, you can go to about:config and set the preference browser.ctrlTab.previews to TRUE. This will change the behavior to show a preview of which tab you are switching to much like Alt-Tab in windows. Also like Windows Alt-Tab, it changes the order of tab switching to be sorted from most recent to least recently viewed, instead of using the order in your tab bar. This is the method I much prefer, as a quick ctrl-tab will then toggle between the two most recently viewed tabs.

Oh.

Emm.

Gee.

Thank you for that.

Do not, not ask a new mother, 'Is it supposed to look like that?'

You can ask the father. He'll explain, somewhat excitedly, that yeah, it is. The head doesn't go back to normal shape for a few hours, and color comes a little later too. There are a ton of little details about infants he will happily share to the unenlightened.

Do not expect the same of the mother. She's on too many drugs to kill you, but not too many to forget you opened your dumb mouth.

*Snerk* But yeah, newborns look mighty funny. Believe me, if it wasn't supposed to look like that, you wouldn't have been able to see the baby so soon, because the doctors and nurses would have rushed his baby bottom straight to the NICU.

In browser (FF, Chrome and IE), CTRL + 1/2/3/4/etc will bring you right to that tab.

My oldest had a cone head (literally, she had a point) because of the suction that they had to use to get her out.

I'm a big fan of Ctrl + Page Up/Page Down, myself.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I keep wanting to know this and keep forgetting to find out.

And now...mind....oiauslknf;lasigoisafljhdkjhfg;ajhdf;lajsd;fasd. (that was vaguely supposed to sound like grgldybargledeegrglebarg, at least it did in my head.)

I'm between, "Now you're just showing off..." and "I'm gonna cry big anime-style tears now."

In Windows 7 (and probably other versions), Win+1/2/3/etc will open the app in that position on the taskbar.

Just discovered that "Oi" is not the same as "Oy" (as in "Oy vey"), and I had been writing out the wrong word for a long time. "Oi" is apparently British slang to get people's attention while "Oy vey" is a Yiddish expression of dismay. I suck at homonyms.

Yup - it's Yiddish for "Oh, woe" - "vey iz mir" is another, related Yiddishism - woe is me.

"Oi" is also useful at punk shows.

Edit: unless it's a NOFX show and they're playing "The Brews" then you switch to "Oy".

Oy is a billy-bumbler.

Homophones, not homonyms.

What's the difference, they're both homos, and welcome here.

Woo!

I'm not sure I should have known it, but I didn't realise, during playing Bioshock Infinite, that Wounded Knee and the Boxer Rebellion were actual historical events.

Fun fact: in the Boxer Rebellion, the Yihetuan -- called "boxers" by Western media -- believed their martial training made them impervious to bullets.

It did not.

There is a superb episode of This American Life about Wounded Knee. I recommend everyone listening to it who hasn't. The only problem is that it will make you sad.

Hmm, Wounded Knee and no Skyrim references?

I used to make arrow-to-the-knee references like you, but then I took a lesson about one of the most disgraceful massacres in American history to the heart.

[em]Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee[/em]. Read it. (This was required reading in my high school freshman honors history class.)

True story, but now I'm kind of impressed I haven't seen any memes anywhere on the internet. Is it possible enough people respect this monstrous event enough not to make that joke?

Alternatively, the cynic in me is positing they did not, in fact, pass History class.

Sadly, it is more likely that the Wounded Knee tragedy is not well known enough to be used in a joke.

Unfortunately, I was in Global History honors and we did not focus on American History. I never heard of the Wounded Knee Massacre until today.
