Guild Wars 2 Guild organization thread.

Hi guys. After a few months off of GW I'm glad to be back and run around, enjoying all the new stuff. I've been in the GWJ guild since it launched but I had another (RP) guild I ended up doing stuff with. They've however disbanded and so I've been trying to catch up with the GWJ guild. I don't recognize a lot of names though (I figure most of us didn't use our same screen names- I know I didn't.) I'm Ryli.Saintbane(some numbers) or something, and my main is 50. I've been leveling in old Ascalon (charr lands) so if you have anyone around that level and you're interested in smashing charr and dragon faces feel free to look me up! I'm also looking to do Super Adventure Box (like the rest of you :D) and operate on CST time now. (I'm not sure if that's good for groups now, or not)

I also wanted to say thanks to all the people who have been answering my dumb questions since I got back. They've changed a lot of stuff.
Look forward to seeing you guys around!

Alright.

We have just finished unlocking Guild Rushes, and we have a couple Guild Rush missions researching. This is a new type of guild mission that involves a number of guild members being turned into animals and racing from one point to another. There are traps and mobs along the way.

As always... dulfy.net has a handy guild rush guide.
http://dulfy.net/2013/03/17/gw2-guild-rush-guild-mission-guide/

There are 6 Guild Rush locations around tyria. I would recommend that everyone at least take some time to find a waypoint near them.
- Bear Lope (Lornar’s Pass)
- Chicken Run (Fields of Ruin)
- Crab Scuttle (Southsun Cove)
- Devourer Burrow (Diessa Plateau)
- Ghost Wolf Run (Harathi Hinterlands)
- Spider Scurry (Dredgehaunt Cliffs)

As you can see all of these are pretty accessible, southsun is an L80 zone that can be accessed from LA and the guild rush is fairly close to a waypoint so I expect as long as there are several L80s present, lower level characters will be able to participate.

Here aresome of the key points about guild rushes, flagrantly lifted from Dulfy.

You have 30 minutes to get 15 guild members from the start location to the end location to receive 15 guild merits for completion. It doesn’t need to be 15 different people – you can have the same 5 players run through the rush 3 times each for example.

Tips for Guild Rush
-Spam skill 1 whenever it is off cooldown as it reveals traps (red circles on the ground)
-It is super helpful to set up group of non-transformed players as “escorts” that will defend transformed players attempting the Guild -----Rush from nearby mobs or go up ahead to clear mobs.
-Transformed players can be buffed with swiftness, aegis, regeneration, and can be healed by non-transformed players.
-Use your minimap to help you navigate through the Rush. Blue flags on your minimap will tell you where to go next.
-Small red circles are spike traps that will activate once. If someone ahead has trigger them, they will not harm you when you pass over them.
-Large red circles are rock traps. These rock traps are highly lethal but you won’t get hit by it if you move past them fast enough. Make sure to never follow someone when passing through these rock traps as you will get hit by the rock traps activated by the person before you.

From what I can tell we should be able to manage completing this with 2-teams of 5, 3-teams or more would be ideal.

OK let's try to get some merits this evening. Once again, bounty and whatever else at 22h00 EST (Wednesday apr 10th).

Rolling again with guild activities this Wednesday. Once again, bounty and whatever else at 22h00 EST (Wednesday apr 17th).

I vote for the rush as the second one, since that gives a guild commendation and the trek doesn't.

Agreed, but it also requires more people and takes longer. I've been wondering if it might be time to start staggering our guild missions and holding the guild rush and guild bounty on different days. Any thoughts?

Had lots of fun at the events last night.

Agreed, I think the guild rush is the best guild event so far. Fun for everyone who participates (and doesnt get bugged... sorry Malli), no need to get people to especially follow guides etc, no need for special builds.

Any chance we could vary the time from week to week? 10PM EST is just too late for me. I could do it on a weekend, but not a weeknight.

Can you propose something?

There have been a few people who have suggested running events earlier, others have suggested running them later, but we've also had generally good attendance for the Wed. 22h00 EST time slot. Personally, I cannot guarantee to be able to lead events any later than that. Earlier during the week might be possible, but generally speaking we have fewer people on.

Saturday is a pretty terrible time for bounties because tonnes of guilds are doing them right after reset. It wouldn't be uncommon to scout a target and have another guild engage. Not sure how guild rushes would work with other guilds involved.

I think it's a good idea to keep doing the guild bounty and guild rush back to back for now, but in a few weeks when we have guild challenges unlocked we will need to start looking at doing some of those on different days. It would be a good idea to start thinking of scheduling early.

I could lead them a little earlier, but only every other week due to my work schedule (work seven 12 hour days in a row, then have the next seven days off). As for bounties, I have no problem kicking them off for people who need the commendations, provided we have at least a group of 5 people interested. During the only guild rush I've done (under the Priory HQ) there was another guild doing it towards the end of our run, and it didn't interfere with our rush at all. If anything, having another guild there meant more people clearing the mobs. As for another guild killing a bounty target before we got to it, it respawns as soon as it's defeated. The targets that aren't on a patrol path (like the ogre with the pet rats) could be more difficult, but you can't scout them out ahead of time.

I could make 8 or 9pm.

OK.

This week guild events are scheduled for Wednesday at 21h00 EST, next week they will be at 22h00 EST, and we can alternate if things go well. Sound good?

See you then!

I'd love to try one some time with a group who will just acknowledge that I have to be led around like a 5 year old. I cannot manage tabbing back and forth, I don't remember what I'm supposed to be doing...just point me at something and tell me to kill it; and I'm good. But the minute I leave the game to look at a browser, I'll end up missing the kill. It's happened almost every time. I've only successfully done two guild events.

I hereby acknowledge that I'm not a power player, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing, and even if I read what I'm supposed to be doing, I will forget 5 minutes later. Also, I'm probably not very good at playing my character. It's true. I've apparently become ditzy. At this rate, I'm mere weeks away from whacky. Gods help us all. I need someone to hold my hand until we convince Ducki to give up minecraft and come back to the fold.

The latest guild event we unlocked, guild rush, doesn't require you to tab back and forth and look at anything outside of the game, so you might enjoy that more.

So I see there are going to be custom arenas in the new patch that you can invite just your friends to play. This sounds awesome for the guild - is there any plan for the GWJ to set one up?

For now the custom arenas are being rolled out as a beta that's only available to the top 50 players(based on qualifying points)

Which is kind of a dumb move on Anet's part, the announcement of the CAs led a bunch of ppl who rarely/never do sPvP(like me) to be suddenly interested in it... and then they revealed it's actually only "coming soon"TM and everyone returned to not giving a kitten about sPvP.

Well they came out really early to say that this would be a slow roll out and all that. This essentially their closed beta for custom arenas. The other big deal for the sPvP crowd is the arrival of spectator mode finally, which allows for much better streaming and eSports related activities.

When they are available to us we will look at the pricing and see how much sense it makes to maintain one for the guild depending on interest and all that.

sPvP has never interested me as there just isn't enough variety in gear and builds, or objectives. I wish they'd spend more effort on WvW which seems to be a far more popular part of the game.

Agreed and seconded.

Yes. I indulge in it when I am in the mood, but yes agreed.

Thank you for putting together the guild runs Tyops. Had great fun last night. Especially when I got to die from Poobadoo twice :). You should have heard us in voice chat. I would also encourage Goodjers to use the GWJ Vent or the Eldain Mumble server for events as they would like to.

When I found the first bounty, the tree frog, Badferret told me I had to attack him to make sure it was the right one. Well I was all by my lonesome and wow that was an ugly fight. I think you and some other guildmates finally came running in just as he had his knife to my throat and my arm was outstretched in a plea for mercy.

The Guild Rushes in the higher zones will probably require a bit more coordination going into those ones in the future. I think for the more difficult zones like that, we should put 10 people on escort and let 5 people run it, then cycle a new 5 in. Those mob spawns needed about two groups protecting our zerglings. I didn't think of this till after the chaos, but running the puzzle 3 times would have been fewer than probably most of us attempted it. A fun part of guild events is learning the new experience. Dulfy made it looks so easy.

So I just got sucked into this game after their insidious free trial weekend followed by a $40 sale. What server is the GWJ Guild on? To my shame, I didn't look this up before hand and created my characters on Anvil Rock. Do I have to pay for a Transfer in order to join up with you guys? Thanks!

We are on Northern Shiverpeak.

You can still join the guild, and visit us on the server, but you won't be able to do WvW with us.

Name added to spreadsheet, LtWarhound.4230, would appreciate an invite. Got the game gifted as a b-day present, so I finally upgraded the trial account.

To transfer from one server to the next, you now need to pay gems: it's 500 for a medium population server, 1000 for a high population server, and 1800 for a very high population server. I think Northern Shiverpeaks is currently a high population server, so that'd be 1000. Not sure what the gold to gem rate is, but I'd be willing to chip in for a transfer (although my crafting habits have kinda diminished my funds lately, I must be down to 10 gold in my bank account). If ten of us chip in 100 gems, or 5 of us chip in 200 (either of which are completely doable on my end), it should be easy enough to round up the gems.
However, "the transfer fee is only charged if you have characters on your account; in other words, if your account has no characters or you delete all existing characters first, you will be prompted to select a new home world after creating a new character, free of charge" sayeth the wiki. Not sure you want to delete your characters though. It's like killing off your beloved pixelated children.
Barring that, you can still guest on our server and hang out with us.
Whatever happens, the guild is not tied to a specific world, so you can join GWJ today, as soon as an officer gets around to adding you (character name required for this though, I believe).

Woohoo, new blood! Not sure the spreadsheet gets much use, but simply posting here will give the heads up to an officer who will add you.

It's great to have new faces, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in game!

It's your call what to do if you want to transfer. When you do all you need to do is post one of your character's names here and we can send you a guild invite.

Invite sent.

Welcome aboard.

EDIT: Also, this puts us at 397/400 members, I'll pull 2g from the stash an upgrade us to the 500 member limit. We do have a large contingent of members who havent been active, but there wont be any need to do anything about that for quite some time.

Two notes:

1. New Dungeon in the next patch that will stick for about 2 weeks, so lets make the most of it.

2. I know we are not too goal oriented as a group (which is cool) but there are about 5 of us that are at fractals 20+ and would love some more guildies to run with. As you go up in rank the loot gets better btw. So if you all want to increase your fractal level, let some of us know and we can run with you.

I'll be getting my AR at or above 15 this week so I should be able to run 20+ imminently.
