Questions you want answered.

how do you format text on this site as a direct link?

Thanks ^^

I always use HTML, like <a href="URL">text</a>. You can also use a BBCode URL tag, but those have trouble with some punctuation in URLs.

So far, from my first phone interview it sounds like the benefits, vacation time, and culture are the same. Of course there's no way to guarantee this, but there were no red flags raised.

Culture and values and process are very important. Some companies don't give a damn about Quality of Life, while others keep it front and center. QoL is very important to me, and something I talk about on the first call with recruiters, phone screens, in person interviews, etc. I make it crystal clear that dinner every night with my family is very valuable to me... more valuable than "any amount" of money.

It helps me weed out boiler rooms, sweatshops, places with high turnover, and in general, places that I'm not going to fit.

While going from 80k to 96k might sound awesome, you have to ensure that the intangibles still fit what you want from an employer. Be sure to Google the company, too, looking for red flags like poor sales, regulatory violations, layoffs, etc. Investigate them like your life depended on it... it kinda does.

Note - I'm over 40 with wife and kid - if you're twenty-something and single, "job hopping" to boost your salary req and experience can be very profitable, I'm just past that, and this post reflects my perspective.

I have a shrinkwrapped PC copy of Bioshock 2 sitting in my special edition box. Is there a way to activate the key on GFWL and just download it from there? I figured I could open it up and give the key away to someone if so.

The reason it's still shrink wrapped is because I bought it off Steam on release day. I was impatient.

Yesterday, I ran a half marathon. So obviously, I decided that I needed to have steak for dinner.

Wife bought two NY Strip steaks, which were on sale. They cost about $6 each.

We used the new wireless meat thermometer we got for the grill.

The result was some fricking great steak.

So, my question is, would it be wrong to go back to the store and buy two more steaks and have the same thing for dinner again tonight?

EDIT - this is totally her idea.

I don't see a question there unless it is 'why am I not on the way to the store right now?'

...there is nothing wrong with that. At all. I'm disappointed in you for even needing to ask... also your wife is awesome, and now I'm confused as to why you have a girlfriend too.

I would be I wasn't waiting to be enabled by you lot.

Girlfriend is equally awesome. Awesome*2 > awesome.

Can't argue with math I guess.

The only way it's okay is if it's Ribeye instead of NY Strip.

You're right, it's "good".

Is there any kind of sweat proof body paint out there? I need paint myself as part of a costume bike ride, but it has to breath and not run when I sweat...

And on down the chain we go, until

But hey. There's a "prize".

Man, hexagons are my favorite shape to eat.

Quintin won't eat breakfast unless the odds are at least 3:1.

It's the breakfast of choice for wargamers!

I seem to remember an episode of Mythbusters about this.

So, it's wrong to eat steak three nights in a row, right?

Where are you getting these rules?!

Jonman wrote:

Only if you steal them.

Jonman wrote:

I'm going to go with no. Your cardiologist may start to disagree after a while.

Edit: Or maybe your colon. I suspect it won't be happy with this long-term either.

If you ever need to ask yourself that, just think...What would Ron Swanson do?

Make a salad with the steak to cancel out the lingering guilt.

The salad would be a steak salad.
