Company of Heroes 2 - From who? Ze Germans?

I'll be on the beta and in vent later.

Also, I'd have to doublecheck, but I'm pretty sure the reason that this feels different from the original is that everything just happens faster.

The pacing in the beta feels like it's somewhere between original COH and the faster moving DOW2.

Like I said, I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's what's going on.

It still feels like company of heroes. It's definitely faster, but it still feels a lot like company of heroes.

I'll definitely be buying it. Really keen to play the single player campaign too.

Urgh, probably a no-buy then.

Don't they get that their customer base is getting older, not younger?

If you liked the first COH you will like this one too. Its really not too much different and your units still can take a beating so you have plenty of time to react. I actually don't find the gameplay (build times and movement) any faster but the multiplayer matches progress faster because they cut down on the defenses you can build. On one hand it keeps things moving but I do miss the option to really lockdown an important point. For example you can no longer build trenches, tank traps, or barb wire.

Russians can build barbed wire and sand bags. I haven't explored Germans but I've seen them build bunkers and I think some of their specials is an infantry unit that can build trenches. Tanks seem super important, I've yet to see anyone win w/o having tank superiority.

OK, it's not that fast. It's just faster. If you are concerned though, wait for the open beta and try it then.

Best advice. It is faster than the original. That doesn't make it Starcraft.

Maybe I didn't try with the Russians then because the barb "wire" that I was using looked more like rebar spikes that would just slow units down. I wasn't aware of the special unit that can build trenches, I just noticed that the engineer couldn't. I will look into that. The germans can build one bunker that has the option of being a forward med station, re-enforcement station, or machine gun mount. For the most part it feels more like an offensive tool then defensive though. COH2 certainly doesn't have the breath of defensive options that were in the first game though. I'm hoping they make up for that with expansions.

The game is still pretty awesome though and it sucks that we have to wait until June to get the full product.

Is anyone here trying this with an ATI card? I haven't had a problem with my Nvidia but my buddy keeps on crashing to desktop mid game. He updated is drivers to the latest stable and its still an issue. I told him to try the beta drivers.

Well I decided to try the Germans out after I'd been playing Russian for my first few matches and I must admit, I had a much easier time. It could also be because I'm getting pretty good at the gameplay, but to be honest, I felt like the Germans had all the tricks in their bag. Two engis, some grenadiers then a mg and a mortar, followed by a sniper and I had completely locked the Russians away from getting a vp, then another vp. I only just got a panzer IV out and it was gg.

Maybe I should up the AI to hard and see if that can throw a spanner in.

Also, totally see the problem with the mortar and the sniper. It's like they know exactly where he is. BS!

EDIT: Yes, I'm using an ATI Radeoon 6950 and it runs pretty damn awesomely. No crashes whatsoever and I'm running at 1920x1080 full detail. I was actually thinking of upgrading my card, but if it can play everything I want at full detail, I can't really complain.

My friend and I are both on ATI cards and, we have had zero problems.

I'm really not sure if the game is faster, or if the maps are smaller. Smaller maps combined with the current super accurate mortars makes everything feel a lot squishier, which I think is the main problem.

The maps don't seem smaller, but then it's been a long time.

I just know I spent a majority of my time with CoH on the smaller maps like Rails & Metal and the one river valley one.

I just know the early stages of the game used to feel a lot more methodical and I could spend way more time focusing on infantry than I can in this.

I dont know what you guys are talking about this game being fast. You're nuts. I played a match of SC2 and then COH and its on the opposite end of the scale.

Yeah me too. I have been switching between this and SC2 and it is night and day.

How do you get the beta key anyways? I "liked" it but nothing happened after that. I'm trying to grab one for a friend.

Should see a key generator tool.

I searched the page for key and generator and nothing came up. I'm thinking it may not be available to everyone. Also there wasn't a mention of a key prior to pressing like.

I saw nothing too.

It's not fast in relation to SC2. Nobody has said that. The opposite, in fact.

It's faster than the original CoH. That's all anybody has said. And since the beta forums have plenty of posts from others who loved the first game and are issuing the same complaint, we are far from alone in that observation.

Boo. I only pressed the button once.

Sorry guys don't know what the deal is. I read it on Joystiq

Sorry for long link. For some reason embedded links and quotes aren't working for me.

Pretty much this. It's just faster than the original, that's it. Probably due to the victory count goes a lot faster and you also seem to be getting resources faster or the unit costs are less. Either way, the game progresses a bit quicker than the original CoH.

Does anyone know the commands to pull up the console and show FPS? I'm just curious to see how my new video card is performing (I'm not having any issues).

Does the game have any coop in it?

Thanks!

And for those asking, it was the top story on that facebook page, had a link to a key generation page, where you could choose to sign up for their newsletter as well.

Downloading!

German Half track with the flamethrower upgrade is godly. I really like it! Really, really like it.

Now there is a 6 page thread on the Sega forums about ATI 4xxx series cards and crashes. It turns out ATI stopped fully supporting that series a while ago and this is likely a result of that. Between this news and them not supporting my mobility card on my 3 year old latpop I'm glad I chose to stay with Nvidia for my desktop GPU. I hope this is something that Relic can fix as I'm not confident ATI will.

Huh... that would be my card... guess I'll still try to play sometime this week and see what happens...

If it's the same as COH1, they let you pause and issue orders. I ended up playing a lot of it like it was turn based.
