Defiance: new blend of MMO

Yeah, if the weapon/shield/grenade is set for any your loadouts you cannot sell/delete it.

Well, it's good that it won't let you accidentally get rid of gear that you may still want to use, but the game seriously needs to get better about explaining features in order to avoid confusion like this.

There seems to be claimed preorder stuff I cant get rid of that has nothing to do with loudouts.

At the start that's true, but when you start maxing out your skills it becomes more rogue like.

I'm sure I know what you mean by "rogue like" and am sad that it's not... y'know... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike.

semantics... with the words separated and us being in a MMO forum i didnt think people would get hung up on that.

Yeah, I totally understood you. I was just suddenly grabbed by the idea of a massive Roguelike.

Sounds pretty good, now if only I can get my Sporeshot back.

The infector weapons seemed pretty ineffective when I tried them out- is there something I'm missing about how they work?

I've had the same results but i've been chewed up in a heartbeat by them when doing pvp.

The bugs that spawn don't pop up numbers and do remarkable damage. I have a gun that spawns the bugs on hit, its more a shotgun infector than how the others work. I usually just shoot each guy once and the spawn finishes them off with the dot. In the giant arc falls I've gotten top 5 a few times using only the infector during the fight, I'm not sure if this is the reason for the change or not.

The Infector seems to work best against groups for me. Once the first couple guys pop the bugs clear the group. But there are different styles so be sure to read the description so you know when it will spawn the bugs.

Good for groups and getting some agro off your character. I believe my bug bites do over 500 damage.

Infectors are also really good for the shield using raiders, no need to circle them or get up close and melee to displace the shield. Just shoot 'em from range with an infector and watch them get tumors and die!

So, is the game worth it (i.e. fun)?

karmajay, it is worth it. I am having a great deal of fun with the game and find the story line very well done. Minor squabbles with interface and chat system. But that seems to be a hallmark of Trion Games (IMHO). But, Trion has almost daily updates to the game, and the game is improving. I am enjoying myself so much that I picked up the DLC pack. I am looking forward to seeing the TV series and how well the two mediums interact. Could be a gimmick or the next big thing. I am shooting for the later.

i think I'll give it a try over the weekend

Just another reason this game has grown on me. It seems as though the developers have been very responsive compared to other MMO's I've played. No it's not perfect but it's good to see a team actively working and staying transparent AND communicative.

Trion has always been good on these lines. Impressively so actually.

Have some questions for those who may have dug into this more than i.

Leveling up weapons... Does it matter what you shoot? Is it so much per kill or the same amount of xp you actually get also goes to the weapon?

Has anyone leveled up one weapon all the way? I see weapons wiht their own xp bar but swap mine out before maxing one.

I guess I'll pick this up. Is there a server I should join, or anything I can do to meet up with GWJers?

When a weapon's individual XP is filled completely it unlocks an additional ability on that specific weapon, but from there on out you will no longer gain XP for that weapon's type while using it. That's why you always need to keep a second choice available for your preferred types.

That mechanic can be a pain sometimes because I've found it to be pretty common for a lower EGO rating weapon to have vastly superior stats to what's currently dropping or purchasable, yet I have to use the lousy one because I've long since maxxed the XP out on the "good" one. I've got a green LMG that's just a beast at over 400 damage per shot that I got a week ago, and all the ones dropping now are 200 per shot even though they're 600+ EGO rating higher.

The loot gear is this games biggest failure. Its a hot mess.

The weapon leveling is based on the amount of damage you do with that weapon. Except the BMG which is the amount of healing you do with it.

Ok, I'm in, add Shoal07 to your friends list.

Beat Jack leg Joe last night, gave me more problems than I would like to admit...

I finished the last of the main and side missions last night. The final boss battle of the series is definitely a departure from how the rest of the game is structured. Overall I'd rate it as a fairly satisfying conclusion to the story arc that's present at launch.

Now I've got to get some of the more annoying Hot Shot missions finished. There's one sniper one, and one shotgun run (Moonshine Shack) that are giving me a lot of trouble. Once I complete those two I'll be done with all the exploration pursuits other than Marin for which a required Hot Shot still hasn't been re-activated in the game.

I feel like I've pretty much hit the equivalent point of finishing the single player campaign in a Battlefield game so now I move along to co-op and PvP.

next question:

Is there a chart describing the difference between grenade types? V/E/W those type of indicators...

I just finished Marin (except for the missing Hotshot I am complete to that point) and just started sausilito

I am Akareth Rex in game

It's great that so many people are playing, but maybe when we announce it we should clarify which of the three platforms we're playing on.
