KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! Why do they release these things when I'm sleeping! Curse this being on the other side of the world thing. Don't they realise how much of a CoH fan I am?!?!?!?!

Dammit that sh*ts me to tears. Tears I say! *sigh*

Yeah I got there 20 minutes too late it seems. I'm so stoked to try this out too :/

Steam download, I am on the short bus today...

Man this game is for me. I love the slower pace and I can definitely see myself being able to get better over time. After a round of failure, the tactics started to come back to me. I just had to remember how "base building" and infantry combat worked in this game.

Huuuuge thanks to SuperDave for getting a key for me. You sir, are one magnificent dude!

So um... now that I have said key... what do I do with it? Do I activate it in steam?

Yes. Games -> Activate a Product on Steam -> Profit?

So we can't talk about anything can we? Nothing at all? Hmmm. This is going to be difficult.

Not here at least. When would be a good time to comp stomp and learn the mechanics with you Sabre?

Yeah there is allot of stuff I would like to talk about but the official beta forums are just a b*tchfest.

Yeah, I enjoy the game so far. But I will say this, they NEED KEY REMAPPING... In sc2 T is my attack command and here it is retreat. Nothing like watching all four of the units you place around a point to assault it run away with full health! I am fine until the pace of the game kicks up and then it's my sc2 keys I push. Not going to drop SC2 for this, if they get the keymaps figure out, I think this is an instant buy for me, if they don't, I feel I may never play it.

YES, IT'S THAT BIG OF A DEAL!

I think to play it a bit more I might get one of those OS level key remappers, but that seams like so much work.

If AutoHotKey works, it is very easy to set up. I use it for productivity purposes and I was surprised how easy it is to use.

I have the opposite problem of having played a ton of CoH and almost no SC2. That reminds me, I have a half-written article about hotkeys that I need to finish.

Yeah, that's the one I saw, easy to setup huh? ok, I will try and set it up for the game. If it works that would be cool, but still think they should add the feature.

Anyone up for some comp stompage tonight?

I am probably game (assuming key map project 2013 works out well). However, I am still losing to the easy computer (although alot of that might be that my attack move turns into retreat alot)

I think we are friends, but add me up if not, steam in sig.

I should be down sometime tomorrow, but I think I'm booked tonight.

Ok, for anyone who wants to play the original CoH:

They've now released the Steamworks version of the game, so if you bought the titles through not-Steam(GG, physical, etc.), go and find your keys and put them into Steam. You'll get a Company of Heroes(New Steam Version) game in your list.

You'll have to redownload the game, unfortunately.

What if we got it through Steam, will it automatically update to the Steamworks version?

You also lose your old profile, so any badges and stuff will have to be re-earned.

Not sure of an exact time, but if you see me on steam playing, shoot me a message. I'm getting used to all the maps now but I must say I'm not a fan of snow! Everything is soooo much harder. Going to be very interesting learning the best strategies to use.

I'm curious on what will change between this beta and the full game on release though. Like is it purely balance changes or are they still working on improving the graphics and art assets?

So, for what it's worth, the written NDA is lifted. Still no streaming or video posting from what I can tell, but you can talk about it wherever.

Also, I'm on and in vent if anybody wants to play some.

I feel like I have way more trouble with the infantry phase in this game than I did in the original CoH. Also, I'm absolutely USELESS on any map with the blizzard weather effect stuff. I build fires, and they're never where I need them when I end up needing them, or I just forget them completely and my dudes all freeze and aren't worth anything for the entire duration.

Basically the only way I win a blizzard map is if I manage to sneak in a tank and some light vehicles before the enemy. Dealing with infantry during all that is just too much. Of course, the AI seems to have no issue with it, so surviving the massive mortar team spam is rough.

Yeah, I find that enemy AI spams lots of Mortars and MGs. I've used my sniper to good effect, but for the most part, you just have to be aggressive and build up some conscripts (or grenadiers) and push for early territory and keep moving.

I'm really enjoying the beta but feel like it could be better somehow. I'm definitely buying it though. A fleet of Rabid monkeys couldn't keep me away.

I haven't had any luck with snipers. I put them on hold fire and keep them behind my own lines, and they inevitably take one errant mortar hit and disappear from the face of the earth, despite being hidden in cover and not shooting at anything.

The only way I've kept one alive was to just micromanage the sh*t out of it constantly. Which is super annoying.

The sniper thing was an issue in CoH1 as well; hidden units were directly fired upon by mortars. In this one the mortars fire on mine fields as well; even though they shouldn't know they are there.

I have found them useful in one way against the AI. It tends to focus on the most central of the victory points. Often times you can completely hold a VP on the outer edge with just one sniper. Put him in cover, build a fire behind him so blizzards don't screw with him, and just leave him. I had one hold a VP on the edge of the only 2 player map by himself for most of the game because the AI wouldn't ever commit more than an engineer squad to capping it. They were too busy throwing everything they had at the center point.

Also, I can beat a Standard AI now, but the tendency is still for them to wear me down to sub 100 points and then for me to turn the tide and work my way back.

I've won two games now with less than 10 victory points, where I finally gain a foothold and the AI just never gets it back after.

It feels weird going back down to 2 sides when I'm so used to 4 different armies. Oh well, still getting used to the game. Anyone up for some comp stomp or adversarial later today?

I'm trying to finish Bioshock Infinite today, but when I do, just find me on steam.

Now that you guys can talk about it, is this a substantial upgrade over the original?
