Minecraft Multiplayer: GWJ World

We don't do sky platforms? News to me.

Just be mindful of where you are building. We had serious problems with them marring the skyline in an old world and had a general agreement afterwards to limit their use in populated areas.

Mind the HOA or we'll stare at you crossly!

Method 4 for sand and sandstone, find a flat spot and dig up as much as you want. Build a roof of dirt or cobble one block down and cover the roof with sand. Given that sand is several layers deep, you'll get plenty while preserving the original landscape with the exception your entrance to the quarry. The working space is also a nice place to set up a farm so that you can work there as long as you want without worrying about starving.

Couldn't that be dangerous if someone gets surprised by a creeper and is fine to survive right up until they land several blocks deep and die from falling?

Never had it happen, but it is theoretically possible. I wouldn't write it up as dangerous. Besides, if you go with a cobble stone ceiling, it might be relatively blast proof with a small hole near the creeper and not the player.

I picked a way out of the way spot so that I can build whatever I feel like without getting in anyone's way. And so I've spent most of my time underground, completely out of sight.

There often aren't overt complaints about structures, but a big abandoned cobble box in the sky might not be what somebody wants to see every time they look up. If it's easy on the eyes that can make a big difference. If it's somewhere out of the way that can too.

You might want to wander around the server, maybe ride the rails to see the sights, and get an idea where you'd like to build. Or check out the online map set to overland night with spawns and signs turned on.

Thanks to a bunch of farming in the nether, an interesting boss kill (the Wither nearly got away from me this time), and a large iron donation from P&E Industries, spawn has a full beacon now which grants additional movement speed and health regen within 50 blocks of it.

Since I didn't want to disturb what has already been built, it's just outside the fence to the north of town. There's room up there if folks want to build some town structures close by.

Did you video the kill or it is kind of a normal thing these days?

Also I never know what software people use to do that but thats a different topic.

Hey Quintin, I done jacked up yer blaze farm.

Or more precisely, the crushing blocks stopped retracting. I'd been using it for about twenty minutes, kitting myself out, when they got stuck in the closed position. I don't know if it short circuited or if there was a timing issue, the circuitry appeared fine but I'm not familiar with your design so I wasn't going to try to mess with it myself.

I fixed it. There was a missing redstone wire in part of the crushing timer. Did a pig break it?

Ok Robear. I'll be around again after 5pm CST. Lets do this

Extremely minor request: I had picked up a spruce sapling on my last trek to spawn from my place in hopes I could get some spruce growing out at my place. Unfortunately, I got zero saplings from the tree after I cut it down. So if someone has a spruce farm, or just a bunch of saplings, and is close to spawn, would you mind dropping a couple off in my box at the post?

Edit: I'd be happy to trade if someone is looking for something else too.

I think I have a few spruce saplings at Avampost. I'll have a look next time I have a chance.

Will do. I have plenty that I'm growing underground.

lol. Sounds like I'll have plenty then! Thanks guys. I'll make sure to bake you some cookies as a thanks. ^_^

Can I farm cocoa beans?

I'm kind of gathering all the different things you can farm that arent animals... after cocoa beans I think all I have left is mushrooms.

Yep - there's a plot in the hills up above Upper Folding that has them growing on hunks of tree at the top of the fence. I thought it was ingenious, but I haven't taken the time to try it for myself yet.

I thought thats what I saw, but I wasn't sure... I assume it has to be a jungle tree.

No idea. If you figure it out, let me know. Also, there is jungle a hop, skip and a jump away, if that does matter. Upper Folding is located along the line where the jungle meets the plains.

My home is at the top of a jungle tree in the middle of said jungle. I'm sure I can get a sapling.

Hello!

I just recently joined the GWJ community and was looking to join the minecraft server. I play alot of single player but it gets a bit boring without anyone else around, and I haven't done much multiplayer. If I'm welcome my minecraft name is the same as what I have here - JFJuggernaut. I hope to build glorious builds soon!

I also have a number of jungle trees and my tower is located on a separation line between a swamp and massive jungle biome. Feel free to ride the rails to my house and hack out a section of jungle. I hateses jungles.

I have plenty of spruce sapplings at New Solara if you'd like some. We're a short run west of spawn.

Thanks for the offer. Sounds like I'm going to have more than I need now, but maybe I'll swing by anyway. I saw New Solara on the overviewer and it looks pretty awesome.

Is there anything I need to know etiquette-wise? I'm still quite a Minecraft noob, and this is my first time doing multiplayer...

So, some etiquette items that are my opinion:

1. Give your neighbors some space. It's a big server, with big biomes, so before building right next to someone else's structure, ask first if it's okay.

2. Don't go through people's chests without asking. It's a bit rude. Certainly don't take anything without permission.

3. There are many of us who dislike the look of skyways or giant sky platforms. Sky platforms are best built away from other settlements.

4. The best way to identify an occupied area is to look at the maps in night mode and note the lit areas.

5. To claim an area, find an unlit spot and set up torches and or signs. If you want a sign to show up on the Overseet map, put down a sign where the first line is "POI" all itself, then the 2rd, 3rd, and 4th lines whatever you want.

6. The storehouse at spawn is for everyone to take what they need.

Anyone can look through my chests. I don't mind although I understand why others would. Just let me know if you want something as I may have plans for it.

Finding cookies in my post box pretty much made my day! Thank you anonymous cookie distributing stranger

Yeah, I could care less if someone looks in my chests. Just don't take any metals or stuff made from metals and I could care less (since I'm not getting any from fancy automatic machines).

Ugh, I'd feel icky looking through people's buildings, moreover their chests!

BTW, how the heck do you place a sign on a postbox? I either open the chest or end up placing the sign on the floor!
