The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

Wait, which summon spell? All the ones I can think of work outside the soul cairn.

The horse. I thought that only worked inside the SC. Am I wrong?

You can summon the horse outside.

I could have sworn that I tried it and failed, too. Sorry, current horse, you're going in the stables.

There are mods to allow you to summon Arvak even if you don't have a high enough magica skill and to make him run faster as he quite slow.

For that one collection quest in the SC I followed a walkthrough. Those pieces are spread all over the place and the SC isn't small. It's certainly a cool place to visit though. I wish that summoning spell worked outside the SC as well. I know the creature can be patched in, but it's not quite the same.

I managed to find them on my own, but I think I may have just been lucky. The one thing that confused me was how to open certain doors. Had to look up that you had to shoot through the green orb things.

Finished Dawnguard over the weekend, and overall really enjoyed it. Having yet another huge new area to explore when I found the Forgotten Vale was a little exhausting, and I really wish the map was better, but there was a lot of interesting stuff there. The fight with

Spoiler:

the two dragons on the frozen lake

was one of the more epic Skyrim moments I've had.

The dungeons and caves in the expansion were all interesting to explore, making the expansion worth playing even if you don't really care about the story. If you do care about the story, chatting with Serana during each phase and dungeon gave it a much more personal feeling than other quest lines in the game. As with most questlines in these games, once all was resolved there wasn't much in the way of impact or response from other NPCs.

Anyway, on to Dragonborn! I got to Solsthiem and had a great time reading the various books and talking to people in Raven Rock. Having the music from Morrowind playing is a great touch. Probably won't get to play more until next week, but i'm looking forward to exploring the island and seeing what there is to see.

That is a thing? I guess I need to walk around there more. I thought I had. And I agree, Dawnguard was pretty great. I especially appreciate any expansion that adds to the base game even when you're not specifically doing those missions.

Yeah, there are a bunch of hidden things there, and after reading up on the wiki afterwards, there were things I missed regarding killing Frost Giants and using gems on them to open up other areas, so I'll head back there to mop up what I missed. Again, a more functional map would have really helped there.

That epic fight isn't hidden, though. It's part of the main Dawnguard story, IIRC. And agreed, it was one of the coolest things I've seen in Skyrim, as I remember gushing about it before.

Also, patch 1.9 is now on Xbox, so get ready to prestige, brah.

Maybe skirting the edges of the lake lets you skip it? I don't know.

I've made lockpicking and blocking Legendary skills now. They increase quickly at low skill levels so they seem like obvious choices. Might do the same with pickpocketing, though I don't find myself in cities very often anymore. Still, if they let me get to 81 faster than getting the last few skill increases in alchemy, restoration, and destruciton, I'm happy with that.

Destruction is pretty simple. Take Shadowmere and a robe, hat, ring and necklace with 25% cost reduction on destruction and restoration to a road like right outside a major city and tape down the triggers with flames and healing hands.

Just finished the embassy mission, so I earned the achievement. So far, so good. But then I realize I had left logging on after diagnosing a few mods. Lo and behold:

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.

Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it.

On to Fallout 4 then?

I thought they had two teams now and should be well along with Fallout 4 development. I could be wrong though...

Unsurprised but still sad there won't be additional content for the game. I suppose it had to end sometime, and a year and a half of support is pretty good. Hopefully there'll be one last patch to clean up the remaining issues with the game.

I can't think of a game that's been as well supported since Burnout Paradise. Really great work by Bethesda on this one. Whatever they're working on next, I still have plenty left in Skyrim to keep me occupied until then.

Also, many of the comments on that blog post are hilarious in a sad and embarrassing way.

I got the impression there were more expansions in line. I just hope they're not "doing a Blizzard" and pulling all their teams for TEScO.

BAHAHAHAHAHA! *wipes a tear from his eye*

Kind of surprised on the DLC front... would have assumed they'd make one more piece, this actually puts them at fewer DLC than Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

But yeah, in spite of what they say, I'm assuming this will be just like Fallout 3 and New Vegas where we can expect MAYBE one more patch, and if it isn't super game breaking, everything else will just be left to sit where it is right now.

True enough, we can always hope that Bethesda will act like a respectable company who can fix its mistakes... but I don't see that as likely, as we all always buy the busted piece of something resembling software they release.

Going by the usual period between Bethesda games (call it 3 years), assuming they're not all going all aboard the great ship TESO, I'd guess their next game will be out around or after 2014, which probably means Skyrim will be the last of their games the PS3 users have to suffer with, assuming they don't manage to mess up the next generation platforms too.

I really hope they do some overhauling on their engine.

To my understanding, TESO is a separate development team inside of the company. Even if they're not, initial responses to some leaked beta footage are not looking good and may not affect other games for very long, if at all.

IIRC TESO is Zenimax, not Bethesda. Yeah, Zenimax owns Bethesda, but...

It's simple. TESCO is being developed by ZeniMax Online Studios. The single-player TES games are developed by Bethesda Game Studios. Bethesda Softworks publishes Bethesda Game Studios games and ZeniMax Online Studios' game (i.e. TESCO). All of those companies (Bethesda Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks, and ZeniMax Online Studios) are owned by ZeniMax Media.

We can only hope that TESCO will be developed by ZeniMax. It would arguably make shopping a much more thrilling experience. Better loot, too!

There's nothing quite as thrilling as being attacked by a sabre cat in the frozen foods aisle.

No doubt they've been working on it, they're a huge company and Skyrim was in development before Fallout 3 came out, but there's still bound to be a lot of work left to do on Fallout 4 (or whatever it is they're working on)
