2013 GWJ Fantasy Baseball League Catch-All

Surprised you didn't pick up Seager. Pretty good 3B.

I must have missed him. Nelson has scored fewer runs but has a higher BA so far.

Just waiting for Lawrie to return in a couple of weeks, hopefully.

Marmol barely gets the save for the Cubs as they hang on to win 3-2. If the Cubs continue to trout him out in the 9th, they deserve every loss they get. Cut this guy loose, seriously.

OK, once again, let me preface that this rant does not reflect this league, but rather my cash league.

So ESPN has given Aroldis Chapman dual eligiblility even though Chapman has never made a start in his entire MLB career and will be the closer for the Reds this season.

Shelby Miller, who is STARTING on Saturday...................STARTING on Saturday.............................mother ****ING S-T-A-R-T-I-N-G on Satruday only has RP eligibility.

WHAT. THE. ****.

Still doenst fix the champman fiasco, but in fairness to ESPN, Shelby Miller started 1 game in 2012 and came in relief in 6. Eligibility should be based on actual stats, not a presumption (which is why chapman is so wrong), so don't see why Miller as an RP is wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I would accept Miller as an RP if Chapman wasn't listed with dual eligibility. They shouldn't presume, but they presumed on one and not the other. That in itself is horrible. But if you're going to give Chapman the dual eligibily, do the same for Miller.

Boo can you not pick up players after the first game starts for that day? I just grabbed Dan Strailly trying to squeeze him in against Houston, but it's only letting me put him in tomorrow, so its sort of a wasted pick.

Not a huge deal overall.. its 1 streaming pick for week 1, but just want to make sure I know the rules going forward.

Lineup changes can be made up until each game starts, but roster moves are locked daily at the start of the first game.

Looking for some pitching. A closer that actually gets saves would be nice. My team is Up Up and J-Hey.

Talking of trades, I'm looking to part with some of my army of injured players (Hanley Ramirez, Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira, Matt Garza, Jason Motte) for something decent at 1B or 3B.

Wow Cronox. That's a heck of a DL.

In 4 games, Chris Davis: .600, 4HR, 16 RBIs. He's on pace for 162 HR and 648 RBI. Woohoo! Gimmie the championship now! :p

I just dropped Marmol if you want to take the chance.

Considering where I was all week, I was happy to eek out a 2-6-2 week. David Price hurt my week, having been a disappointment in his first two starts.

Ugh, I was heading into the weekend being up 8-2-1, but then Haren gets lit up by Cincinnati, Dickey gets blown out by Boston, and I end the week 4-5-1. Blech. Ahh well, it's a new week

Big matchup in the 2nd week of Fantasy Baseball as the top two teams (FSeven and myself) go head-to-head.

No longer the Cubs closer, much to my delight, as I drafted Fujikawa. I would also imagine Marmol will be no where near a save opportunity for the rest of his career.

As far as available closers go, I just dropped Veras from the Astros. Also, Jose Valverde was just signed by the Tigers. With Detroit's bullpen, he'll be closing out games in no time. When I say closing out games, I mean he'll throw the last ball. Sometimes it ends up in the Catcher's mitt or first basemen's glove, and other times it ends up in some 10 year's glove out in the bleachers.

Wow, FSeven and I were neck-and-neck early in the week, then I went on vacation and my team went to crap.

On a positive note, there's nowhere to go but up.

At the start of the weekend I was thinking I would be happy holding my 2 points, I was amazed seeing the results today. On paper your pitching looks amazing but it was your offence that played sensationally.

Note that I said "closers who actually get saves"

Seems like lots of star pitchers got lit up the first week of the season.

Should be a fun matchup. The Detroit bullpen is nuts. I got tired of waiting to see if Leyland would use Al-Al so I just dropped him and picked up Rosenthal who I feel is a sleeper for some saves.

Agreed--I think the Tigers closer situation will be up in the air until (maybe) the end of this month at the earliest. Valverde was only signed to a minor league contract, so I wouldn't count on him being a lock for the closer position. Even then, the speculation is that Leyland will just be doing a closer by committee based on the match-up or however he feels that day. It's more than a little stressful being a fan and not knowing exactly who you're going to see come up in the 8th/9th.

I picked up Joaquin Benoit after Leyland said that he'd like him to be his 9th inning guy (wouldn't say "closer"), but that's really a flyer. I think we are definitely looking at closer-by-committee until someone distinguishes themselves. I'm hoping its Benoit because I am desperate for some saves.

Lets get some trade talk going! I have Outfielders to spare and i'm in dire need of middle infielders and pitchers.

Anyone not named Trout or Harper on the Berkeley Treecutters is available. V-Mart (C eligible, thanks ESPN!), Cespedes, Markakis, AGonzalez, Ichiro, Pagan, Carl Crawford can be yours if the price is right.

If anyone needs a third baseman, I'd be willing to trade Middlebrooks or Seager.

Benoit has been electric the past few seasons, he's going to be closer material whether it's with Detroit or with another team.

Anyone who would sign a knuckle-baller this late in his career (who wasn't even a knuckler to begin his career) is crazy. Even since his run with the Mets, he's only posted a WAR around 2 until last year. Don't discount the fact that the AL is a much harder league to pitch in, much less the AL East who had a LONG time to study the knuckler with Tim Wakefield in their division and has several of the best lineups in baseball. Dickey gets a relatively high GB rate, but that doesn't matter if the field is stacked with sub-par defensive players (which I don't think anyone would argue with the Jays). I'd be surprised if he can post a sub 4.5-5 ERA this season.

I've never understood the fascination with the AL East being so big and bad. The Rays lineup sucks and the Red Sox, Orioles and Yankees are all mediocre. The Braves, Nationals, and Phillies all have better lineups than anyone in the AL East.

Looking just a runs scored this doesn't seem to be accurate. Last year the yankees and red sox both scored more runs than any NL east teams, in the yankees case around 80 runs more. Nats were next followed by the orioles and blue jays then the braves then rays. the phillies, marlins and mets all scored fewer than any AL east team.

2011 was even less close, the red sox and yankees were 1 and 2 in the majors, and the blue jays were sixth. The best of the NL East were the mets at 12th roughly 150 runs behind either the yankees or red sox. The braves, nats and marlins were all worse then any AL East team.

2010 yankees, red sox and rays were 1, 2, 3 in the majors the blue jays were 9th and the orioles sucked. Only the phillies finished ahead of the blue jays.

2009 4 AL east teams in the top 10, 1 NL east. 2 NL east teams in the bottom 10, 0 AL east teams

I understand that this does not take into account the DH rule or the pitching they are playing against or any other factors like that but the general rule is that AL east teams score more then NL east teams so looking just at runs scored it's probably fair to say that over the last few years it's harder to be a pitcher in the AL East.

HOMER BAILEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

Of course I left Brandon Moss on the bench last night.

My Ace...

Barry Zito

It's gotta be the socks.

Oh wow.. Crushed last week. Time to start tweaking..

FSeven, good matchup last week. Two titans run head to head into each other and come out 5-5.

Also, I would like to note that I took all 4 pitching categories affected by Homer Bailey's start

*EDIT*
And for the love of everything holy, can ESPN PLEASE give SP eligibility to Shelby Miller. Holy mother of merciless crap, it's just not right. He broke camp as a SP, he should be an SP, especially since Aroldis Chapman still has SP eligibility and has never made a start in his MLB career.

CBSSports gives both Chapman and Miller RP eligibility only. I have no problem with that, since it's consistant. Eventually, Miller will be SP eligible on CBSSports. In that league, I will most certainly take advantage of the RP eligibilty when he has a 2 start week. I just don't understand why ESPN didn't wait until Chapman had enough starts to make him eligible for SP. Just not right. Either give them BOTH SP eligibility or nothing until they make enough starts.

Once again, it has nothing to do with this league, drives me nuts when money is on the line in the other.

BTW, set your lineups early this morning, 11:05am start in Boston
Patriots' Day, Boston Marathon

Ryan Dempster is going to pitch today like the greatest pitcher in the majors because..............................

wait for it........................

my opponent in GWJ and my Money league both have him.

*EDIT*
7IP, 2 hits, 2BB, 1ER, 10Ks
Bullpen lets him down, a small victory for Kush.
