3DS Catch-all

Thanks for the friend code list! I added mine (1633-5608-5405) and will add everyone else.

Is anyone else playing Brain Age: Concentration Training? I noticed that there's awards for Training Partners and what looks like some kind of multi-player "battling". I'd be interested in trying it out if anyone else has the game.

Thanks!

escapeVektor is the deal of the week at $4.99. The NES Castlevania has been added for the Virtual Console, and Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove, which was actually supposedly really cute, has been made downloadable, although I don't know for how much.

New firmware out this morning. Looks like it fixes those error messages some people were getting after upgrading to the previous version.

Harmoknight looks pretty cool. I'll probably jump on it when it drops in price a bit. $15 on release.

Loving Luigi's mansion...this reminds me of my SNES days...Nintendo magic

Just spent half an hour or so with the Denpa men demo (after originally being put off by the middle aged freaks in uni-tards).

Feels like a mix of katamari and pikmin. Anyone else tried this? does it have legs, do they use the different elemental attributes well, or does it get fairly repetitive after a while?

Just wanted to add to the Luigi's Mansion love. I never played the first one, just kind of jumped in, and am having a complete blast. Since I got the 3DS back last fall, it has been one awesome game after another, I literally can't keep up.

Update on contacting ElTaco the Rogue.

I've heard nothing so far, so I'm going to find out of Certis what our options are.

I'm thinking we could get him to drop the friend list link in the OP fairly easily, if this is the case, do we want to get him to drop in a few more? I was thinking a list of recommended titles, voted by general consensus, as suggested a few pages back?

We don't need to finalize the list straight away, just set up a placer doc so that we can modify to our heart's content later.

Any other suggestions for Google Docs we might want to run before we request an opening of the OP?

Another idea, which may not be possible at all, would be a transfer of author for the thread. That way we could arse around in there as much as we want.

I'll shoot him a PM and see what are options are, if any, then we'll know what we can or can't do.

EDIT:
Man that was a quick response. Certis says he can add in what ever we want, but no transfer of ownership. I figure the nicest and easiest thing we could do is send him a full replacement of the OP so he can just 'select all, copy, paste, post. If we want anything changed or cleaned up, I guess now is our opportunity.

So, it's over to us, what would we like up there?

My love for it is strong as well. Unfortunately I'm stuck right now. I'd be much happier with mid-level saves.

Yeah, the check pointing kinda stinks sometimes. There was an overly long sequence involving stairs before a boss fight that I was sure was a joke, but it wasn't. And the flashlight controls kinda suck when the camera goes top-down.

That said, according to the activity log, I've played this thing for 12.5 hours this week. I'd say I like it.

Free game came with the physical version too >_>

Doh!

I wish I'd purchased the non-digital version of Luigi's Mansion. The free game wasn't worth it. This game makes my thumb really sore. Either that or it further exposes the circle pad as something that just isn't good for me.

I'm curious why that is. I don't feel like I'm using the circle pad in a different manner than any other game I've played on the system, and in fact find it rather comfortable (except for when you're trying to aim at the ceiling and it turns out whatever you're aiming at is in front of or behind you or something).

Any idea what might set this game apart?

My son is having the same issue. His solution was was to leave it in sleep mode and charge it so it doesn't die.

By the way, I also made my android phone have the ringtone (but I stole it from a Youtube video).

Actually I think I figured it out this morning. I was playing Mario Tennis and Pilotwings without issues. Then I tried Luigi's Mansion again. Pain.

I think this is it. The circle pad is terrible in my opinion. Especially compared to the DPad and to the Vita. But I can mitigate the circle pad issues by gripping the 3DS and providing a stable platform for my thumb.

However Luigi's Mansion makes heavy use of the gyroscope. This means I lose that stable platform as I move the device up and down. I think a lot about ergonomics. Little weird stuff like that matters.

When is the gyroscope used outside of peeking through a hole? That's the only time I notice it, and I cannot stand it when it does.

The only time you have to use the gyroscope stuff is when crossing a balance beam. Anywhere else, you can use buttons or the pad instead/in addition. Took me a while to figure out why I kept falling from the beams.

Of course, I think it's a bad idea to tie the gyroscope to in game things on a system whose 3d effect requires you to not move it. I had to flip the 3d off for each balance beam, which seemed silly.

I have to use it to raise or lower the flashlight / vaccum. Am I missing something?

X raises it, B lowers.

X and B buttons will raise/lower the vacuum too.

I didn't know that I could use the gyroscope for the torch and vacuum!

I tried to use the gyroscope for it, but it must require some exaggerated movements. Plus, silliness.

Oh geez. No wonder that's such a pain. I didn't even know that worked. I've been using the gyroscope the entire game. Thanks, everyone.

Oof, I couldn't begin to imagine using the gyroscope through the whole game. My wife on the other hand is the type of player who tilts her whole body when trying to make a long jump in a game or tries to crane her neck to look around a corner. The gyroscope is tailor made for her.

FTFY

I just started playing Luigi's Mansion yesterday. Wow, this game is fun. However, I think I have developed a late onset of ADD with acute OCD when playing this. I have run back to the beginning areas and vacuumed everything seeing if I could 'suck it up' and uncover a secret. Then when I got the flashlight upgrade... woo howdy did I start flashing everything (dirty minds check yourselves). I also have a hard time playing this for more than an hour or so before I have to quit and play Minecraft or some Indie game. Is anyone else having this experience?

Otherwise, amazing game with awesome audio and spot on visuals. Just what you expect from a Nintendo game.

I almost didn't figure out the beginning of World 2-1, so to speak, because I wasn't aware you could use the flashlight to open up some of those flowers. I might have to go back to the first world again.

In addition, I've been called by Professor E. Gadd in World 2-2 once because I was spending so much time just exploring the environment, what changed since the previous mission, and what new stuff has opened up. This game is just so fun.

Someone asked about Club Nintendo rewards a few pages back. April's game rewards are up. If you don't follow the Club Nintendo thread, they are:

  • Super Mario 64 (Wii VC) - 200 coins

  • Kirby's Pinball Land (3DS VC) - 150 coins
  • 3D Classics: Urban Champion (3DS eShop) - 150 coins

If you're curious: yes, you can redeem the Wii VC games on a Wii U. However, you'll do it in the Wii Channel through the Wii Shop, and it'll play through the Wii Channel only. Presumably, you'll be able to pay to upgrade them to the Wii U version when that's made available.
