Ascension (iOS) Gaming League (New Tourney starting Jan 14, 2013!)

Mudbunny and Cronox, I hate to interrupt the start of your dictated match (which I'm looking forward to) but could you start a new thread or do it in the Ascension thread? I'm still trying to close off this tournament so we can start the next one and I think that coordination plus your posts are going to create too much noise. I fear your match won't provide the intended value to our community.

Post a link here and I can add it to the OP as well if you start a new thread.

Fark and Torq, any updates on your match?

So here is the field as I start:

Like Cronox, I have a 4/1 split in my opening hand.

I decided to grab the personal wormhole. Once done, up popped Hadron Rising as a mechanism event now active and Autobuilder 5.0.

I am on my iPhone, so I can't get a direct link to the post, but it starts at the bottom of this page:

Finished the second match earlier today and I won that one as well- so we are now done.

Apologies on the delay, the Easter break here in the UK took some time out of my schedule.

Game 1 was close with Farktopia's power just beating my runes.
Game 2 wasn't even a game as Fark's first three grabs were Everbloom, Starchild, Starchild, and I think a 5th turn Emri.

Congrats on the wins, and good luck next round!

TheWalt unfortunately timed out in Game 1 of the bronze medal match last night, even though I'm pretty sure he was a good 15-20 points up on me at the time (with 25 or so honor left to go in the pool).

I'll go ahead and create a Game 2.

i thought that might have happened, since the game just disappeared. no worries, on to game 2.

Still waiting for the next tourney but in the meantime, if anyone wants to play a quick game I'm usually available weekdays between 4:30 - 6:00 and then evenings after 9:00pm EST. Gamecenter name is sansdeity.

Been jonesing for some live action. Challenge me!

TheWalt edged me in game 2, but I managed to pull out a military victory in game 3 to snag the bronze medal. Good games!

If I've learned one thing about the game through the course of this tournament, it's the viability of military-heavy strategies. In the past, I had generally try to go with rune-heavy strategies, largely ignoring Heavy Infantry and relying on artifacts or big heroes to generate any military power. In this tournament, though, I've had some good luck building a military-heavy deck in situations where lots of monsters were showing up in the center row.

Congrats to Wolverinejon in a hard fought consolation round battle! Ready for the next tourney!

New tournament starting April 22nd!

Just a reminder. This will begin tomorrow night!

For those still tuned in: with surgical precision (see wot I did there?), Il Dottore takes gold in the consolation round after a nasty tie-breaker match!

Match 1: Il Dottore 75-73
Match 2: Dixie Flatline 100-68
Match 3: Il Dottore 97-92

That last one was a little crazy -- the honor/hand-value breakdown was 14/83 for ID, and 54/38 for DF. I thought I was way out ahead there on honor, but as it turns out, picking up nearly every Mechana Construct in the deck will do a lot to offset that sort of advantage. (Ironically, that was the strategy I took in our first match, but it didn't quite pay off that time.)

Congratulations to the victor! Give that man a gold-plated tin of fermented Baltic herring!

Sounds extra yummi! Fitting prize for the best of the worst

Really good final round, hats off to you Sir! You really ran away with the second match and I thought I was done for. But indeed, the Mechana strategy can really pay off if you get in early enough. Don't think I've ever managed to get nine (!) Mechana and so many deck points as this time. Ironic as you say that we switched strategies from first to third match and I managed to scrape by both times.

Think this will be my retirement match, neither the game nor I can get much better than this!

I have the new expansions in physical copies, the Rise of Vigil and Darkness Unleashed, and I can tell you, the game gets EVEN BETTER

And Ascension Online will mean all the Android peeps!

So I've got my buddy Mike from my gaming group hooked on Ascension... is it time to start another tournament?

I'm always up for more games!

There is also a 3-player tourney starting very soon at Pocket Tactics, if anybody is interested.

And I posted this in the main Ascension thread only, but a few of the GWJ peeps joined me at the tourneys on the official site for the game!
