Painted world annoyed the hell out of me the first time.

The only thing that annoyed me about it was just that I couldn't leave whenever I pleased. It needs a really big Point of No Return sign stuck on that damn painting.

That happened to me to. I didn't have a clear understanding of the prompt and then I was stuck in the painted world for a while on my first play-through. Glad you're diving back into this psoplayer, you seemed a bit discouraged about it at PAX.

I've made further progress in my NG+ at lvl 5 run. I am about to head to Sen's Fortress. So far NG+ has proved to be far more difficult than the first play through. Ceaseless Discharge was a huge pain to get past until I got lucky and he missed an attack as I was running by him. Capra Demons can one shot me with quite a few of their attacks.

Most of my time playing tonight has been setting things up for hopefully going after the 4 Kings as soon as possible. I built up a +14 Fire Bastard Sword that I have to use two handed to wield. I'm hoping that I can deal enough damage on 4 Kings with that otherwise it may be near impossible to beat them. I'm also a bit afraid of Gwynn, he was much harder than I expected the first time through.

I have yet to do a low-level playthrough but my SL 33 boxer recently got his right-hand Caestus upgraded to +8 and will probably take on Sen's Fortress next so I can get to Anor Londo and create a Lightning Caestus.

I'm having so much fun with this, facing down the big guys with fists raised. From cinematic success moments like finishing off Havel the Rock with a parry and suckerpunch to the guts to a summoned phantom giving me a long hard stare before suiciding off a bridge in Undead Burg when he realized I wasn't about to pull out a proper sword. I even ran into an invader who removed his weapon for a hilarious round of fisticuffs to the death down in the Depths.

That's too funny. Are fist weapons that underpowered? I fooled around with the Dragon Bone Fist a little, it seemed pretty awesome if I'd had the stats for it.

Excellent! Did my advice of unlocking the shortcut help at all, or did you just power through it?

I have only used the Caestus so far so I can't speak for the other two yet, but apart from the extremely short range they are quick and do a decent amount of damage when upgraded.

The offhand Caestus light-attack is super quick and is a great tool to interrupt low-poise attackers before delivering a few right hand heavy attacks and you also get a lot better at ripostes when you don't have a shield to absorb attacks with.

I will get the Dragon Bone Fist once I've taken on the serpents of Sen's Fortress. Right now those serpents are giving me a hard time and as I just bought the Sigil from André with the souls I got from finishing off Quelaag so I will probably brave the forest first to join the covenant and access the merchant in Blighttown for the Claws.

Yeah I needed that shortcut to be able to make a few repeated runs against the wheel skeletons. It's the first time I've come across them, so it took a little bit of experimentation to figure out the proper way to deal with them. I really hope I don't encounter any in open areas, because without a corner behind me for them to get stuck in I'd probably be hopeless.

Don't go to the catacombs then

I'm up to fighting O&S now on my NG+ lvl 5. I've died twice so far and I am primarily using my +15 Light Crossbow with Heavy Bolts. The first time I died was a standard situation where I misjudged the distance between me and Ornstein so I took a hit and was followed up by Smough charging in for an inescapable hit. The 2nd time was on Super Smough when he did his buttocks lightning attack. I was being too tentative with advancing on him and was just shy of getting out of range of the attack.

On a odd note, I was hit by a phantom Ornstein during the Super Smough fight. I was backing up across the fog door and I was hit from the side by absolutely nothing. I believe it was a phantom Ornstein because the damage output seemed to fit his attack.

I only ever found one part of this game to be unfair. The Bonewheel skeletons in the Painted World. Looking back on it, I probably should have tanked up and gone in with a great-shield.

Huh, I handled them with a heater just fine when they hit me, but mostly just dodged them. Granted, I may have been overleved.

After a hiatus for easter, took down Seath the Scaleless last night. Took me quite a few tries because I wanted his Moonlight Greatsword and that tail was a pain to cut. Also happy to be out of the caves, I hated those invisible walkways.

Decided to take a side-tour into the DLC content before heading into the Catacombs.

I didn't find them unfair. I'm just swapping between a spider shield and a crest shield depending on the situation, but neither can hold up to a direct bonewheel onslaught. After a few failed encounters it became pretty trivial to dodge them, though. The challenge was in reaching its stopping point and taking it down before it starts a second pass at me.

Just to save you the frustration, there is a spot where that will happen. Don't waste time trying to fight--just make a bee line straight ahead and odn't stop running. At least that's what I did.

Yup, anything that boosts your poise is boss against those guys. I used havel's set and a silver knight shield with the wolf ring.

Worked pretty well for me too.

In the Painted World I had a tough time engaging with the bonewheel skeletons one at a time. When I tried to dodge rather than block, I felt like I always triggered the interest of another bonewheel.

Did you kill the Royal Sentinels before the boss room, or just run past them? They can and will attack you through the fog wall if you run past them to get in. If you ran past them I bet it was a halberd up the rump, not a phantom Ornstein.

Pulling aggro of more than one would definitely be a death sentence. Maybe I got lucky that my instinctual approach worked out, but I didn't have an issue on that point. In detail:

Spoiler:

I went down the stairs and then took the ladder directly into the main room, and pulled aggro on them one at a time going around the edge of the room to the right until I had just the one standing in the beam of light to deal with last. As soon as one begins to approach you have some time to back up and give your self some safe "rolling room" before the bonewheel decides to start rolling. Once he does, it only takes a single roll forward (about the distance you had to walk back) to completely dodge the charge. Because they can still turn pretty sharply, the key was learning not to roll to the side, but forward at a slight angle past them as they approach.

Get more stamina, n00b.

I killed all enemies leading up to the fight so that Solaire would have as much health as possible. The hit seemed to come from the left side, my right was to the fog door, and it was roughly the same spot that Ornstein was killed at.

I methodically killed all the Sentinels before S&O solo before summoning Solaire every time. I like cross my T's and dot my I's hehehe.

I started a new Wanderer character last night to play with parrying and backstabs, which was not my style in the past. My main character was a co-op oriented faith build that relied on tanking enemies with a high stability shield. I managed to get past the Gargoyles while still at level 3 using an Estoc +5 and the base Wanderer armor. It's fun but requires a lot of concentration. I still had to get a heavier shield for the Gargoyle Boss because the slightest slip was enough to just crush my health bar. Later in the evening I really started slipping as I got tired. I lost a bunch of souls to several stupid deaths in a row because I was losing the timing on ripostes.

tanhausered by yourself!

After buying the PC version last week I started a new Thief character on there, it's quite different from my SL80+ Pyromancer tank guy on the 360. It's actually pretty fun being able to blow through the first few parts of the game, but I still struggled with the Taurus Demon just because I could only take a couple of hits from him. Made it past him and to the Undead Parish last night, so access to Andre will help me funnel souls into equipment instead of stats for awhile. That should make things a bit easier with the next few bosses. I hit a hard wall first time through with the Gaping Dragon in the Depths, so I'm eager to see how it goes the second time around.

Running around with a really agile and quick character is kind of nice.

Regardless of what character you play, you're going to find your second run through much, much easier.

Yeah, I'm noticing that already. If for no other reason than I no longer have to walk into new areas with abject terror that I'm about to be slaughtered. For the most part, I know what's coming.

Yeah, I miss that terror though. I didn't have much of it going into the DLC, either, oddly enough.

I recently stumbled over something called DSCFix, or Dark Souls Connectivity Fix, while hanging out in the DS chat on Steam and I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else playing on Windows would be interested. Setting up co-op with a specific player is harder than any boss I've encountered after about 130+ hours into the game.

Also, I'd like to start off with making it clear that I have not tried this fix myself (my friends have yet to become hollows) and remember to read and understand the disclaimer if you want to try it yourself. There is always a chance GFWL will take actions against people using a fix like this if they for some reason don't like it (although at this point I cannot see why they would care).

Right, so enough with the disclaimers back to the fix. From what I've read from the description and the discussions in DS chat on Steam, DSCFix is apparently an xLive hook that takes the call used to build an IP pool via GFWL and appends your friends IPs to that list before returning the response. This should make your friends summon signs available directly so you no longer need to wait for your IPs to propagate through the network and you will still see other signs and will be open to invasions just like before. If it works this would be a wonderful patch for people interested in co-op, but I will be holding out for a week or two before considering installing it myself to make sure it's safe.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/211420...

I've been keeping tabs on this and public reaction seems mostly positive with a few odd bugs here and there. The author just released a 1.1 update that fixes some GFWL connection issues some were having, and has it uploaded to the Nexus now as well. I would try installing this if I knew there were others on my GFWL friends list playing. Anyone interested?

What's up y'all, anyone from GWJ pvp the burg on Xbox 360 about SL 199? If so what is your favorite way to deal with health modders and wrath/bead spammers? If you want a fun fair duel hit me up and I'll attempt to find you or vice versa.

Good lord am I engrossed in this game. Picked this up months ago, but was hesitant about the game for so long. So apparently Steam has logged me as in 40+ hours now. So I've started to get invaded a lot recently -- which has me interested in creating a new character aimed towards PvP a bit more. Any recommendations? My main character (that I've restarted three times over) is a bit more vitality, endurance and strength heavy -- with points wasted here and there as well. I'm interested in trying some new playstyles.

Also this cracks me up. Found this while looking for walkthrough advice.
