Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Bowls are infinitely more useful than plates. I have cupboards full of bowls, but only a handful of plates for "long" food items or when people absolutely positively need to use one.

They crazy.

There are less spills with bowls, I tell you!!! Less mess = less time spent picking up after the messy men in my house!!

I thought that this link was great stuff and it made me giggle and snort my drink onto my keyboard. However, I think it might have a strong smell of P&C about it, as well as a few bad words, so I will link it with the tiniest of punctuation marks and hope it does no harm.

SPEAKING of bowls, Miss Eleima, I freaking love little Corning Ware Petite Pans!

There's one on my desk right now, holding the chopped up remains of a delicious string cheese snack.

Puce, I also saw that link, and loved it, I thought it was absolutely hilarious!!
And those pans are awesome: my grandmother has had a bunch of them for decades and they just never die!! They're still in excellent shape and are super useful.

Man, if only.

I've been selected to receive a bursary, it will allow me to go away to a small rural French town for 5 weeks of 24/7 full immersion and language training, it pays for my room, food, and tuition. Win!

So, I don't know what RCBS stands for, so i made something up in my head... Royal Canadian Ball Sack. The mental gymnastics once I saw the pic and tried to do some reconciling made me giggle. Doesn't deserve its own thread, so there ya go.

Wow, congratulations!!! If you need any pointers, don't hesitate to ask. While currently away from mainland France, I've lived there long enough to know certain places and regions very well.

Haha thank you very much but it is not quite THAT awesome It's in Pointe-de-l'Église, Nova Scotia, which is about a 3.5 hour drive from where I live.

The wiki says that's in Canada, but hey, what do I know! XD Make sure you pack a coat or two....

I had a friend do 18 months of French immersion with his wife in Montreal a few years back. It was more of "hey, we don't have kids yet, so lets move there and live off savings until we can't anymore."

I'm always secretly jealous of him having done that.

It starting to look like spring around here.

Vitamin D. Thank-you San Francisco!

The funniest part is that it's nice and sunny here too.

Are your rickets going away?

Heading to NYC on Monday with my 12-yr-old daughter. Her first trip there. My first in nearly 20 years. I lived there once upon a time. Wonder if I'll recognize the place?

'Ow daare yoo sir! Wee ar' nutting like dos monsterrs!

I'll have you know that making fun of French Canadians is a French national sport! It's right up there with making fun of Belgians (this one's for you, Dejanzie! *hug*).

I just received this in the mail today, and it's great!

I don't know why it is that Nintendo is the only company to really *get* D-pads. Maybe it's a copyright issue! I've always loved the NES D-pad, and the Classic Controller Pro is the closest second I've found.

D-pad Pr0n!

It paired with my classic controller pro within a few seconds, and saved me the hassle of having to wade through GlovePie forums trying to get my Bluetooth adapter to not have a hissy fit over my Wiimote.

I played a bit of Double Dragon NES (the one with XP/slowly rewarded moves *squeal* I loved that feature growing up, though I remember my middle-school friends not liking the lack of "all the goodies" right off of the bat) and it's fantastic with the Classic Controller Pro. Next to Zelda II as a kid I think Double Dragon was the most I spent on an NES game. I remember the absolute pride that I felt as I biked back home from the store with that bad boy in my backpack.

As you can see here, I made sure to get my fourth heart before making it to the punchy dude at the end of mission 2 (hint: You can punch/kick the evil jumpsuit gang ladies for quite a while before you climb up the ladders. Just make sure to land only one kick/punch at a time, so as not to knock them over, and keep an eye on the timer). It's so satisfying to throw Mr. Ninja-purple-pants off of the roof! Especially if it's the first thing you do when you see him. Grab Hair. Toss. Done.

True story: I grew up in Ottawa, and as a result the French I learned was Quebecois french, not French french. When I was 17, I went on a trip to Paris, and was on the Champs Elysee looking for a little gift for someone. I went into one of the stores, looked around for a bit, and then asked the shopkeeper a question. The one other customer in the store did a double take, then came over to peer at me with curiosity and demanded that I repeat myself for her. When I did, she clapped her hands with glee and exclaimed, "How cute! It's like you're from the seventeenth century!"

The French I learned was "France" French, not "Joval" (which I gather is a rather derogatory term). Don't make the mistake of using that in Québec. I asked for the cheque using the wrong terminology once, and didn't get the thing for about a half an hour.

It is a patent issue. Nintendo has several patents on certain console controller and console projection technologies. They license them out, but it would increase costs of production to Sony or Microsoft to use their technology.

Part of the problem is also different terms of years on patents in different countries, various international agreements or treaties.

The short answer is that for any company intellectual property is a spider webbed cluster-F.

Personally I am a fan of the USB RetroPort line of adapters and original controllers. Mac & PC compatible with no drivers required.

Congrats, krev! I was in that program 10 years ago (went to Montréal, it wasn't very immersive). It was a lot of fun and I made some new friends, including my future wife. Huge win! No promises for you though.

You could always give him your wife, you know, as a consolation prize.

This may be the truest thing ever written.

FTFY And thank goodness Québecois is often subtitled, that's all I'll say.

My 7-week old does this thing now where she coos and smiles and generally looks way too cute for her own good, then when I'm thoroughly distracted by said cuteness, spits up in her mouth and coughs.
