SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Byun straight up schooling these guys with his multitask. They'd better send out a someone capable of taking three games.

I'm still just completely floored they went with San after watching Vines get so completely demolished.

Should have been Violet, IMO, for that third game.

As far as the 4th player, looking at their roster I don't see any options other than Symbol and Violet.

Damn, I had azubu win that match. Hopefully viOlet schools these Prime suckers.

Well, no luck there since they sent out Symbol

Also, if he beats Byun, Symbol has the likes of MKP, Creator, BBoongBBoong (who has won several notable ZvZ's against players he was counted out against by basically everyone), Maru, and whoever else Prime has kicking around these days.

It's a rough road.

Believe!

Oh sh*t, I'm partially wrong anyway. BboongBboong is on Azubu now. I had no idea. He was basically Prime's only viable Zerg player. lol.

So they won't be ZvZ'ing Symbol out. If his ZvT and ZvP are in good shape he's got a better shot without the randomness that is ZvZ to factor in.

Byun is like the new Maru (I swear if that kid would settle down he'd be phenomenal).

He should change his name to MultitaskKingPrime.

Or TooGoodMedivacPrime.

Symbol didn't play perfect, that's for sure, but those medivacs are just disgusting. Makes no sense to have this upgrade for free at no cost or research.

I would be shocked if Symbol finds a way out of this. By all rights it should be unwinnable unless Byun derps and nukes his own army Bomber style.

*Jinro was rooting for Symbol on twitter.

Ok, well, consecutive all-kills for above average but previously unspectacular Terran players.

Also, I have to point out how badly I screwed this up. There was a point where I had Squirtle, Byun, and Sound all on my GSTL Fantasy roster. I sat there, stared at it, and changed a bunch of people out. Derp. Derpy derp derp.

Give credit where it's due, Byun was everywhere with his army, macroing, expanding ahead of Symbol and just ground him down. From TL.net where someone did a count on unspotted medivac drops:

To be fair, Byun got like 5+ drops over and over through the northern path before Symbol finally put OLs to spot the area. Symbol played really well once he recovered from the bad start, but he wasn't on point by any means.

If he can't see the drops coming he's going to have trouble defending; boosters or no.

The midgame back and forth with swarm hosts, mutas, lings, and banelings vs mines, marines, maurader, medivac was really fun to watch.

Medivacs need to burn some energy on boost or have a longer CD but Byun forced the game to be his every time he got behind.

Not taking any credit away from Byun, but those medivacs are just too good. Terran is already mobile enough with MMM but having this upgrade at no cost to you, none at all, is just... well, for lack of better word - broken. That's why he could come back from being behind in the mid game - medivacs won't die, super fast, making the bio even more efficient so you can't really defend with spines at your bases. Not when they are upgraded.
Zerg just had to defend, he couldn't force a fight, couldn't force a base trade because the medivacs would come back in time. And he could just float a CC for 2 minutes and then come back to the base. Just too good and it shows, which is nice. I hope they fix this issue before any major tournaments happen.

Symbol had a window after his Ultra remax where he could have crippled or possibly even killed Byun but instead he ran back to his main. He would have done more damage with his giant army than Byun would have done with his drop.

Just some bad decision making. Also: Brood Lords. Remember when they were actually worth building? Yeah, those days are gone.

Also, I hope someday Blizzard finds a way to tweak the Nydus worm so it doesn't disintegrate when something sneezes on it, or if it stays that way at least have it not hurt so much on the gas side of things. Could be some great stuff if Zergs could afford using them to bounce back and forth from distant expansions and not try to run their junk all across the entire map all the time.

The problem with Ultras attacking anything but army is that the terran can just lift off so at best you're delaying, not doing any permanent damage. While you're suffering major losses in econ and tech back at home. The terran could easily afford that delay, because his army is unaffected and can do some damage and go back faster than before if needed. Just too risky to do any sort of trades like that against them unless you have a significant advantage and can afford the loss on your end I think.

I really don't think that's the case for this particular game in the situation I mentioned. He could have completely killed off Byun's mining and some important infrastructure, and kept I believe two of his own bases still going.

Doesn't matter though.

For a laugh:

Nydus needs to be cheaper or something, that I agree with, if only because nydus play is interesting to watch.

Symbol also balked and didn't do much in the way of damage when he had the lead which Thin_J pointed out.

Yeah it's strange that they didn't touch the Nyuds in HotS. It's like they forgot about it

I think they're trying to play around with the Nydus idea in alternative ways. There's an evolution for the Swarm Host in the single player campaign that allows it to "Nydus" itself anywhere that there's Creep. Nydus attacks are fun to watch, but I've found its use cumbersome in my own play. It would be nice to have a Nydus-like idea that makes it more streamlined.

I don't think they actually forgot about it. If you remember they actually talked about new forms of nydus worms for the campaign and possible fun things they were thinking of doing for them, but then that kind of quietly never got talked about again. IIRC, the nydus talk stopped right around time the beta really got going and pros started streaming it a bit.

I would guess that the Warhound and Hellbats and Locusts shooting both ground and air and other more major issues like that just completely took all their focus from whatever other tweaks they might have wanted to make.

So I've only read a couple of pages here, but am interested in watching some good SC2 battles.

Got a youtube channel to recommend ? I don't really want to pay for a MLG sub. Is there also a site that highlights the teams, has pictures, and handles?

I've just been watching Husky on Youtube. His Bronze League Heros series is pretty entertaining and teaches a noob like me what not to do.

Learning wise is Day[9] or Apollo's videos.

Entertainment... there's lots of streams that can be found on TL.net, but for the sake of convenience the top-tier Koreans with English commentary and good production are effectively behind paywalls in the US unless you want to be up until 4-5AM watching matches wrap up.

I don't even know what's up with NASL these days, IPL is up in the air, and I can't recall having seen MLG's regular broadcast stuff in a while so I'm not sure about them either.

TSLs 3 and 4 all have VoDs on youtube you can find and the production there was excellent for an online tournament. I don't know if VoDs for Homestory cup are free or not but I would assume so.

TL has a "best of" compilation of 2012, but keep in mind all of these matches are from WoL. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=401779

Edit: phone is hard to work with, bear with me. MLG has a youtube channel as well, but I haven't checked on it in a long time. The only team I know that posts replays/vods is liquid http://teamliquidpro.com but ever since they acquired a dota2 team the vod section has become a little muddled.

I watched the whole MLG Dallas tournament for free on MLGs web site. They only charge for 1080p. 720p was free.

Just a reminder, the first HOTS GSL starts on Thursday morning.

Speaking of GSL, if anyone is interested in the Code A qualifiers Khaldor will be running a stream + interviews/videos on the 10th and 11th. The sign up list is super stacked. (stolen off reddit)

Artosis, MMA, Supernova, Sting, Puma, TheStC, jjakji, Alicia, Hwangsin, JYP, Crank, Golden, Heart, Choya, Oz, Miya, Inca, Top, Vines, Dark, Stardust, Lucky, San, Tails, Brown, Suhosin, Stats, free, ZerO, Hydra, Argo, Cure, Dear, Action, herO, Jangbi, Bisu, Stork, Best, Zest, Thorzain, Major, Artosis, Mvp, Jaedong, Genius, finale, YugiOh, TY, Reality, HuK, Tear, First, Sola, Dream, Happy, Revival, Seed, Byul, Vampire, Arthur, s2, Hack, Trap, Zenio, Shine, HS, Scarlett, Coca, Puzzle, Sc, and Haypro+Jinro for old time's sake.

Artosis signed up twice? Sneaky bastard.

Haha, I missed out on that looking through the list. A foolproof plan, Artosis has!

Well, Blizzard made their big announcement and it's basically just about WCS and some basic organization between all the other non-WCS leagues. Worth a read though. There's some good information in there.

The AxiomAcer/LGIM match for GSTL on Friday morning starts with Scarlett vs MVP. Just... throwing that out there.

I might be slightly misinterpreting it, but it looks like Blizzard is trying to get more control and uniformity across the pro tournament scene.

Seems like a good idea to me.

Code S Group A ran so incredibly super long I couldn't finish it. I gave up just before 8. Got up again about 10 till 10. It was still going.

GSL's off air now so I assume I'll be able to catch VOD's here by 11 or so.

*Also, Bonus points to GSL for jumping into the custom observer interface thing so quickly. It was really nice seeing more of the actual game area and not having the entire interface sitting there the entire time!

*And they used that guy's custom map deal I posted a video of for GSTL. They had team logos in the starting bases and stuff. Was really cool
