Pred, what's your name in the game and I'd be happy to run with you..

Mine is Biacksheep (that is an I, not an 'l'). I've got some tier 2-4s I keep around for new players.

Username=Forum name. I imagine there can't be THAT many other PRederick's out there, but it's all in lowercase as well, if that helps.

I'm actually kind of enjoying these Level 1 tanks. and I think I know that i'm going to be an arty guy down the line, dropping rounds on people's heads with the T57 is hilarious fun.

I don't know how far you are into the Hellcat, but without its upgraded gun, it gets real frustrating in tier 7 and 8 fights. Unfortunately, you need to upgrade the supsension before you can upgrade the gun. But, once you get the bigger gun on it, it's loads of fun.

Mine's Toanstation, and I've been getting back into the game.

Arty is fun, but kind of a source of abuse (kind of like being the tank in MMORPGs). Couple things to keep in mind about arty:

1) They progress slower.
2) They match as up to 2 tiers higher (so, a tier 4 arty can find itself in a tier 8 game).
3) The American arty line can get frustrating. I had to stop playing my M7 Priest for a while, because it stopped being fun. I was drawing more tier 7 and 8 fights than anything else, and I was either not hitting anything or everything was bouncing/doing minimal damage. That said, I just played my Priest again yesterday, and it was fun.

I thought the posters here may be interested to know that a very similar game set in space is out, called Star Conflict. I've posted a thread here.

Had some upgrades already from previous tanks, but the gun was not one of them, but less than 1k exp from the second gun.

Once you pass the Priest, the american arty starts to come into its own. The M12 is a hella killer.

I suck SO bad with arty. I think I have something like 35% win ratio with artillery. Often times I feel like there is a bug with probabilities, where the bell-curve probability distribution across the targeting circle is inverted. It feels like my shells land on the edges of the curve way more often than the centre.

What's people's thoughts about the new tanks they added in 8.4?

I'm pretty disappointed with the changes they made to the German scouts. Brutal loss of the old VK2801. I haven't played the British AT line yet, but I figure I'll get into it soon enough.

As far as artillery, I found that if I overshoot just a little (place the reticule on the back of the tank) I tend to hit better -- this is because your shot travels in an arc toward the target. You'll often find yourself hitting their turret or the engine of their tank this way. Not all arties shoot alike either. I've noticed that my M12 tends to shoot in more of a straight line than my GWPanther or GWTiger ever did, which also make s a little bit of a difference.

As well, the quality of your crew affects the scatter of the shot. I like artillery a lot, but I think my future is in tank destroyers. I don't like the knife fights, and they recycle faster than the arty.

I have been taking a break from WoT the last week and not playing it till last night for a few matches.

I finally unlocked my first T9 last night. That would be IS-8.

Not sure if I want to roll with it though. Can anybody chime in about IS-8? I'm really digging my IS-3 so far. I also like my T29, and am not sure if I feel like grinding through T32, even though M103 is a T9 I would actually want.

Another alternative I have is the German line. My first T8 was Tiger 2. I hated it at the time, although my record with it does not seem to support my hate. It was also early in my WoT career. At the time I played only German line and premiumed up at T5. This allowed me to grind up to Tiger 2 in a month or so. I suspect I was not ready to play at that tier at the time. The crew is still in my barracks. I may buy the tank again and start grinding towards E-75. Would it be better than IS-8?

The IS-8 is a great tank -- not as good as that IS3 most of the time because of the match pulls, but still a very formidable opponent.

The TigerII has gotten a few armor slope upgrades making it an absolute beast. Make sure, like all German heavies, that your hull and turret face the direction of fire. Its important for all tanks, but especially so for the Germans.

I tried to buy some gold, but Playspan, owned by VISA, kept refusing transactions from my VISA card, even though calling my bank says my VISA card is honky dory and that I should not have any problems. Anyways, my intent was to get a discounted premium for a week, and earn enough cash for Tiger 2, or maybe even IS8.

So I ended up selling my entire depot and some less used tanks that were waiting to be upgraded, so that I can afford a Tiger2. They had them on sale this past weekend.

Apparently my Tiger 2 had all of its components upgraded, except the top tier gun. I grinded out 10k xp real quick to buy that as well. My crew is all at 100% and were at 96% Brothers in Arms. So I've been grinding that out. Need about 20k xp more until they get to 100%. But I keep getting stuck in Tier 10 matches. Before I upgraded the gun, I had serious issues damaging people. I think that 80% of my matches are Tier 10. On IS-3, I get maybe 15% T10, about 35% T9, and 50% T8 (unscientific ballpark number from memory).

Wargaming really DOES hate Germans.

Today downloaded this game.....added some of you guys that posted game name, mine is: Supersonrics.... just starting to play some matches, I won the majority of them but NOT thanks to me.... hehe, still dont get it with the upgrades, practice will help....

Sonrics, if you have not done so already, make sure to play the tutorial, using the tutorial button in the upper left corner once you are in your garage. Upgrades are that updgrades, you need experience in a tank in order to research an upgrade. If you hover your mouse pointer over any of the upgrades in the research window, it will tell you how much experience you still need before you can research that upgrade. Once you research an upgrade, you have to have the money to buy and mount that upgrade. Hope that helps.

I've got a couple of tier II and tier III tanks I can play with you. Playing in a platoon makes the game nominally easier, so I'd be happy to run with you when you're on.

I dunno, the Tiger P and the VKs are beasts with the 88. I'm spoiled by all the shells ricocheting off the front armor.

Got into a fight with a VK against a T-20 and something else that was a small heavy like me. I was on a small ridge, and after hitting them for 30% or so each as they slowly advanced working together, I realized I was hung up on the rocks. The T-20 popped around below me to my left under my side, and the other tank I hit once before it snuck under my front. I kept trying to get moving while they bounced shells off me. Eventually, I realized my gun was no longer pointed at the sky (I discovered that the barrel and turret weight shift in turning actually rocked the tank) and I hit the T-20 at a downward angle, killing it in one shot. The other tank tried to back out just as I got traction with one tread and fired into his rear upper armor, over the engine compartment. Blanked him. I was down to about half this time, and I just finished sliding down the short cliff and trundled off to the fight again. About 50 tons of fun.

...and the Tiger II and E75 are also beasts. Unfortunately, most people treat these tanks as if they're a peek-a-boo type tank, which they aren't. They excel at putting their front forward and pounding another tank from a moderate distance (or if you can push them into not maneuvering, right into the grill)

I don't quite agree with what wargaming did to the German scouts at all.... The poor VK2801 and Luchs are painful to play now. I'm not really sure why they did what they did to them when they not only nerfed their abilities, they up-tiered them. Ugh.

That Vk3601 and the Tiger P are simply disgustingly fun. I think the Panther and Panther II would be a lot of fun too if Wargaming ever put in larger more expansive maps for them to fire downrange from.

I started playing this again a few weeks ago. Good stuff. Interesting thing though, my account I played previously was on the European servers and I had to create a new one for the NA servers. I had a few tier 6's, but I'm not too worried about starting over. I've always enjoyed the grind, especially early on, in this game.

Currently on Tier 5 with a the French AT s35CA. Good fun, but I think I'll finish the last Wheel of Time novel in between waiting for the 105 I'm using on it to reload.

I haven't pursued any heavies before, so I may step into the American realm to check those out.

Tiger P IS a beast. I concede that. And 3601 has a permanent spot in my garage.

But my Tiger 2 must be a lemon or something. They must've run out of proper plating and put some metal coloured wood on the front of mine. Everything seems to go through it. And MM is still giving me 80% T9+ matches.

I'm getting so sick of these little elitist pricks that play this game. I typically play artillery (still pretty low teir), and if I don't have a few kills by the end of the match, some players start berating me saying I'm the reason the ENTIRE TEAM lost the match. Never mind the fact that I get several critical hits just about every match, many times enabling easy kills for my team... But because I didn't finish the darn tanks off, I suck.

Boo hoo hoo, let me whip out my little violin.

Pur, just out of curiousity, why are you bothering to waste your time listening to those wastes of gravity? Always a few in every group, just do the equivalent of /ignore and move on.

It's the teams fault if they lose, and their own skillz that lift them to a win.

When someone starts getting all huffy in chat about the team or another player, I sometimes make a comment along the lines of "When did they add the Wambulance to WoT?" which elicits a few lols and I carry on with my next match. But, yeah, there's some real gems who play this game and the virtual /ignore is my most used method.

Yah, ever since the tv commercials, there are more and more of the little jerks in the game that really don't understand strategy, or the fact that gee, I hit that tank with my arty, yah I didn't kill him on the one shot, but I did make him back up instead of melting your face off.

Dude, don't worry about it at all.. I've played plenty of artillery too and I've heard the same cry to defeat. Low level artillery, aside from a few pieces here and there is really tough to play. You have to really shoot straight and you have to have a little luck to do much at all. There's no worse a feeling when a tank is tracked and you're reticule it as small as it gets and you still miss that enemy tank by a country mile. The good news is when you get higher up, even misses on tanks start to really hurt them.

I usually just type out to the chat when they're crying about me something to the effect of, "Stupid you for depending on artillery to solve your problems" and just leave it at that. The ones that are angry and respond? Well, I have plenty of time between shots to /ignore those crybabies whose rudimentary knowledge of strategy include peek-a-boo and we must take high ground on every map.

M1 and M6 are a pain. Slow lumbering not-quite-beasts. Now that they reshuffled the American tree, I'd suggest you avoid them altogether. T29 is da bomb. It is, without a doubt, one of the finest tanks in the game. Once fully upgraded, it is nimble, speedy, the turret is impenetrable, and its cannon can pen things two tiers above it. It's a T7, but you WANT to get into T8 and T9 games with it.

The only problem with T29... if you get used to as your first heavy, all other heavies to follow will suck in comparison. Granted, I'm hyperbolizing a bit, but you'll see.

It seems that the most vocal idiots are always the ones that got killed within the first minutes of a match.

I think the one thing that helped my game the most was playing the American TDs first. There's something about having tissue paper for armor and a gun that can't pen half the tanks on the field that forces you to play smarter.

Correct T29 best heavy tank in Tier VII, after not so great....
