Broken Age Catch-All

I don't think I watched Episode 7 yet! I wish I could watch them on the TV. I only have 1 monitor and am too busy working on my stuff to flip between windows at my computer.

I can't even watch the video. It either won't play at all, or it starts to play but keeps getting stuck every few seconds. And it isn't just this video; it's any Vimeo video.

I'll try again another time, I guess.

Enjoyed this video... I'm very happy with the documentary and how they show parts of the game but not enough to ruin it for when I finally get to play it.

They want our help in deciding on a name. Go!

Spoiler:

I like the third the best, but none really popped for me.

Spoiler:

None grabbed me either, but I voted for Young Monsters. I also entered Parallel Voyagers into the "suggest a different name" field.

I was thinking of something to suggest as well, and I like yours.

Should we make our own "Name Reds" similar to a tagging thread? It should probably stay in this thread tough.

They've already narrowed it down, two of the original choices AND two suggestions. My suggestions weren't picked

Spoiler:

I voted for The Divide, though none of them really strike me.

I agree with your pick WipEout.

Damn right, you agree with my pick!

Finally got my forum registration approved.

Spoiler:

World is Apart, complete with apostrophe

The new poll: http://www.doublefine.com/forums/vie...

Spoiler:

Worlds Apart is ace. I love that name.

Spoiler:

Yeah, I voted for Worlds Apart too. The Divide isn't bad either, but I think Worlds Apart is a little more evocative of the game's theme.

There's a new trailer out for backers. Looks awesome and should be publicly available later tonight/tomorrow.

They have posted the trailer on youtube as well. Looks great!

That is a fantastic trailer.

The art style has really come together well.

It reminds me of the cards in Dixit. Can't wait to see more.

Wait, it's only slated for PC release?

Oh man, that leaves me out in the cold. :(

They announced support for Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android in their first update after hitting their goal. So I hope you are covered by at least one of those!

Besides these days Steam == PC, Mac and Linux.

DF did a mini-doc for GT about making the teaser, press involvement, and GDC.

The 4 parts are here.

Ep. 9 is up.

Yarp. It's awesome, too. I was at that book signing/release party! Was sweet meeting all those guys!

I really enjoyed episode 9. Slow day at work allowed me to watch it. By slow I mean I was lazy.

New update just landed from Tim regarding the release schedule...

Good news: Design work is finished.
Less good news: The game blew out of scope (I think we knew that).
Even less good news: They're need to cut some stuff but won't cut either character entirely, otherwise the game wouldn't ship until 2015!

Bad news: The game won't be done until 2014.
Less bad news: They plan on releasing the first half to backers in Janaury. Game will also become available via Steam Early Access at some point. Early access sales will help fund development.
Lesser bad news: Second half of the game will be patched in around April-May as a free update.

I'm not too miffed about this. Too big a pile so they can take all the time they need to get it right I feel. I really like their honesty and their willingness to at least give people something to whet their appetites until the full game is ready.

Ouch... and I just funded Massive Chalice.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I wonder why they didn't do episodic releases. Telltale has proved out the model for adventure games, at least. And while the content for Broken Age isn't as "plug-n-play" for the dialog/puzzles/assets as Telltale made out their engine to be, I would think that having the overall game roadmapped would have made turning it into episodes a little easier.

I just read the email I got and came to post this as well. For those interested, I'd suggested reading the message from Tim in full at Kickstarter.

I'm not bothered at all that Tim "designed too much game," but what I am concerned about is his/their expectation to receive enough revenue from Steam early access to essentially fund development of the second half of the game's content. That seems like a tall order based on how Tim describes things in his message.

But how many people are there that will want early access that didn't already back the Kickstarter?

There are many who don't enjoy the idea of Kickstarter, and there are many who buy games impulsively on Steam.

The math is sound.

This is a bit of an apples to orange comparison, but if Planetary Annihilation can crack the Steam top sellers list at $90 I can't imagine Broken Age is going to have trouble.

They can't do episodic because they wrote a whole new engine. From the looks of things, the tech isn't 100% yet, and they can't release until it, let alone put a rubber stamp on any of the content, until it is.
