3DS Catch-all

I'd be hard-pressed to name a 3DS game that's better than Mario 3D Land. It's incredible.

And it has shiny stars!

Fire Emblem. Theatrhythm. New Super Mario Bros 2. Etrian Odyssey.

Done! =)

The only 3DS game I might like more than Mario 3D Land is Kid Icarus: Uprising. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is very good, but it just didn't grab me in the same way. I haven't played Fire Emblem or Etrian Odyssey yet, but I couldn't get into Theatrhythm at all. (The fact that I dropped a few hours into the Etrian Odyssey demo makes me think it'd take the crown given a full purchase.)

In any case, I'd say that any new 3DS owner should be looking at all of those games. They might not all be to taste, but they're all worth playing.

Thanks for all the info! XL it is.

You are waiting until Sunday right?

$159 sale on the XL at Target. All colors, even the new Pikachu one.

If the Canadian Targets have the same deal then I'll definitely take advantage of that deal (Target just moved into Canada). I was planning on getting it in a week or so, but if I can get a deal I'll certainly get it sooner.

I'll investigate Target Canada's website when I have a chance later this evening and post back if there's a deal for any other Canadians who are interested.

Edit: ugh, target.ca has no useful information; it's still being built, I guess. They have no inventory listings. I'll have to go in person on Sunday or something.

Edit2: Targets around me aren't opening until the fall. No deal for me :/

I thought that Theatrhythm was a really dumb idea back when everyone was discussing it in this thread. Then the demo came out and now I'm totally hooked. I generally dislike rhythm action games, however the nostalgia factor is so intense whenever I fire it up.... the Final Fantasy music just takes me back to my younger days, and I lose myself in the game. That said, I could probably play farmville for hours if it had Final Fantasy tunes for a backing track.

Can someone enable me on Luigi's Mansion? I want to take advantage of this deal and have some credit I could use to buy eShop bucks, but I never played the original GameCube game and therefore have no clue what this game actually plays like.

Since the specs/form were revealed, this is the first time I've wanted to own a 3DS.

Went to the GWJ meetup. 3DS GWJ REPRESENT!

(BNice, shoptroll, Demyx and ccesarano)

Was great to meet you guys. I wish the rest of 3DS GWJ was there.

I should have gone to PAX just for the street passes...

Aw, wish I'd have been able to be there to join the 3DS GWJ crew.

Hells yes, you better come to the show proper next year!

I will more than likely be there too! I'm excited.

Hey for all the Canadians, Future Shop has a sale on 3DS. The Purple regular 3DS is $129 TODAY, and you either get a $30 gift card in store, or $30 off the price if you buy online. If they still have stock that's a 3DS for $99.

Also, they have the Fire Emblem Awakening special edition box 3DS for $189, and the same $30 back deal. They don't have online stock of that one though, so you'll have to see if there's a store near you with stock. For me, there was one in Brampton ( about 40 minutes away) so I put it on hold. But you may be lucky with the store near you.

Man, I bought an XL yesterday. Good thing that Future Shop sale is only taking $10 off the XL or I'd be upset. That Fire Emblem bundle would have been tempting, but I think I'll be happier with my XL and its longer battery life in the long run.

Yeah, no deals on the XL this week. EDIT: in Canada. At Future Shop.

Downloaded and played Luigi's Mansion for about 3 hours so far and the game is great, just a lot of pure fun. The presentation is outstanding and the game has so many little touches that it constantly makes me long for every game to be polished. I'm playing on an XL and the 3D works good but the sweetspot is still pretty small, there are some jaggies while playing in 3D and that my only complaint. The mechanics are fun to use and each room has so many interactive objects and secrets it will take a long time to 100%. I've laughed quite a few times so far, some of Luigi's reactions and voice samples are just hilarious.

I'm really enjoying the game as well. I generally don't like Adventure games. And this is an Adventure game. I think it helps that you can wander around the environments.

I'll probably pick it up later this week. I need to switch out SD cards since I have way too many games downloaded right now.

Thankfully this is a super-simple process. Nintendo got storage really right on these little machines.

Yeah, I love how simple it is. I'm looking forward to all the space a 32 GB card will give me.

I'm sure this has been asked. But, I had a 3DS and have since parted with it. I bought a 3DS XL this weekend because it fits my hand better and the library is improved. Is there any way to transfer my eShop content from my old 3DS including the Ambassador program or is all of that lost?

Not unless you can get the old system back to perform the transfer.

Nope, not happening so I'm stuck. Oh well, homebrew PSPGo for my NES/SNES needs.

I wish Nintendo would at least recognize those of us who purchased a 3DS during the Ambassador period and later sold it before the XL existed. It would be nice to have gotten those perks considering the next guy didn't get them either since it was registered to me under my account until I unregistered it.

Just nabbed the Target deal from their online store, plus 5% off for having a redcard (and free shipping).

Obligatory 'what games should I get' question which you are free to ignore- I've made note of the ones mentioned in the last 10 or so pages. I am planning to pick up Monster Hunter 3 because it looked interesting at PAX East. I'm also going to rent Fire Emblem and Etrian and New Super Mario Bros 2. Any eShop must haves?

Whatever Gameboy games you find interesting for starters. Gameboy games look good on it. Cave Story is really good. As is Pushmo. Otherwise the eShop is still pretty boring to me.

Playing 999 now. Typical Japanese story game so far which isn't a bad or good thing. I do kind of wish one of these would try to be a little more original with the story telling. I'm going to be extremely surprised if anything surprises me in this game. If they did one of these games in the walking dead format the genre would be greatly improved or if they just told the story like lone wolf.

Schmutzli wrote:

I won't call them must-haves, but here are some games that are really good if they're in your genres of interest:

Liberation Maiden - stylus-based shooter
Aero Porter - time/reflex based puzzler
Pushmo and Crashmo - puzzle games
Crimson Shroud - Japanese take on a ~8 hour D&D campaign
VVVVVV - Twitch platformer
Mighty Switch Force - Puzzle/platformer
Shantae - character platformer (DSiWare)

Regarding the ambassador program, think about the word ambassador. Bailing out within a little over four months (late March- early August) doesn't really qualify, as far as I'm concerned.

A lot of good stuff has come out recently, but Super Mario 3D Land is still my favorite 3DS game.

I'm going to be surprised if the ending doesn't.

Pushmo and Crashmo are must-haves. I'm really fond of Mutant Mudds (currently on sale), Mighty Switch Force, Crimson Shroud, and Fluidity: Spin Cycle.
