FTL

Started recently. Still working on beating Easy for the first time. 7 Crew in Sector 3, with good Kestrel B. Looking good.

Be wary, my friend. It's when everything is looking good that the game'll hit you the hardest.

And it did. I got taken down in Sector 8 by a random Rebel Scout because I didn't switch over to my better weapons, and was conserving ammo.

Beat it on easy last night with a Kestrel B crew.

Spoiler:

Got up to 6-7 crew quickly and was lucky enough to get a Crystal crew member. Not lucky enough to get to the Crystal Homeword and unlock the ship. But I was able to beat the final boss. Was a near thing. I didn't kill all the crew in stage 1, so in stage 2 I had to make careful use of the Crystal guy's ability and use Hull Repair drone to help out during Stage 2 surges.

i'm gonna give up on this game. Again i died because of no o2. I'm madly clicking on the fully powered o2, jump to a different zone, open the doors. nothing, just watch them all die. i was doing well to.

It's weird that you guys have so many oxygen problems. I've never had any that I couldn't explain.

Take a screen shot of what it looks like. I am sure someone here can tell you what is happening.

Agreed. We can sanity check you, and if it's a weird bug we can all agree!

Nothing like lucking into a couple free Rockmen and a shop that has a teleporter for sale... only for your next three battles to be automated scouts.

hbi2k, the good thing about Rockmen is their hp, so send them over into the automated scouts to wreck stuff. Your teleporter will spool up again before they die.

(Don't try if it has a cloaking device)

You can do that with any race of crew if you use higher level teleporters. With level 3 you can always pull them out of a fight before they die. That won't stop random chance or stupidity from finishing them off however. I once lost two mantidae when I pulled them out of a fire and a missile hit the teleporter room the instant they got back.

Oh! That happened to me once. Full melee skill in sector 7.

First time I ever seriously almost threw a mouse.

How is it there's still no new goodies for this game. Are they working on something else? If its anything short of FTL 2, color me disappointed.

Damn, just had my best run ever in the slug ship. Picked up the perfect combination of weapons, tossed on a couple defense drones and I kicked the boss' ass! I didn't take a single point of damage in phase 1 or 2. Took some damage in phase 3, but only because my breach bomb missed the boss' missile launcher 7 times in a row! Man, if I'd got a bit luckier with the breaches, I might have killed the boss without taking a scratch. Oh well, still awesome!

Wow, the Infinite Space mod is awesome, and awesomely difficult. I have yet to make it out of the second sector!

Cool article about the success story of FTL over at Polygon.

So just after the 300 hour mark, I have finally unlocked the Crystal ship. I also unlocked Rock B on the same run. Freaking luck.

Hooray! The Crystal ship B and Rock B are my two favorite ships in the game.

I got rock A last night and now I fell insignificant again. Really liked the loom of the layout though! Much venting of rotters to commence.

Quintuple post!

Urgh. Stupid Crystal ship. Got the Crystal crew member all un-statised yesterday, plus Long Range Sensors so I could beeline for the non-Distress, non-Ship-Detected systems, and still had three more red sectors to go before the final battle, so I was optimistic that one of them would turn out to be the Rock Homeworld, but nope. Nothin' doin'.

Gee wiz, I get it, you got the Rock A ship and I still haven't! Stop rubbing it in!!

C-c-c-c-combo breaker!

Even rarer than Rock Ship A, that!

Oops. Oops. Oops. Oops.

I got the crystal guy in my 1st rock run through, but died:( emotional roller coaster.

Grr! Mantis B, fully leveled boarding squad (3x Mantis + Crystal), 2x Zoltans manning systems plus an Engi for repairs, Long Range Sensors, 3x shields, maxed engines, 2x Defense Drone I, Breach Bombs, Hull Laser II, pretty much the ideal run.

Got to the Rock Homeworlds.

Couldn't find the !@#$ random event to unlock the Crystal Ship.

!@#$%^&*()_+!!!!

Just FYI: multiple posts are very rarely the fault of the poster. The GWJ forum appears to have a timeout bug, where if a post takes too long to submit, it gets resubmitted, and I guess it keeps trying repeatedly. As backed up as the database sometimes gets around here, that bug can bite pretty hard when it does bite. And then if the poster gets confused or frustrated with the immensely slow response, they can hit post again, and end up with even more duplicates.

I've had at least one double post where I am absolutely certain I only clicked once. In dibs' case there, I bet he actually hit 'post' twice, in the depths of a lagstorm, and ended up with five copies.
