Guild Wars Revival

I know this is a bit of necroposting, but I'm not going to make a "revival of the revival" thread. I've been wondering if anyone still plays at all (I believe I'm on the European severs). Used to play a ton a few years ago, but never quite finished Prophecies (stuck at Ring of Fire), didn't touch Factions, did about half of Nightfall and hadn't started EotN.
When GW2 was released, I linked the accounts and was surprised to see only 3 points! So since then, I've gone back and played a bit of EotN in order to reach the Hall of Monuments.

Anyone still playing? Do we have an active guild? Anyone want to team up and beat EotN in order to get shiny toys in GW2? :D

I will join you all when GW2 has a reasonable sale. It looks fantastic, but recently I just haven't been able to really get into my other MMO's, WoW and LotR. So I don't want to spend a lot of money on something I may drop if indeed I am afflicted with MMO fatigue. But I love the look, the art, the whole premise, so hopefully, it will click.

We'll be glad to have you on when you come around. Seems that this sis a particularly good time for new players in the GWJ guild because we have a lot of new players and returning old players. You should be able to find people who are having a similar experience to game with. Also have a pretty solid core of dedicated players who will be able to answer pretty much all your questions (as long as you break th ice and speak up in chat).

As for sale price, GW2 was just on sale (end of Feb.) so it might be a while.

Oh hi. I can send an invite tomorrow. Just PM me a character name.

SBD is pretty quiet now that GW2 is out.

My main character is Eleima Stargazer. I have a bunch of other characters, but basically the only one I play is my elementalist.
Best times for me are the evenings, from 9 to 11pm GMT+4, so that's 1 to 3pm EST. Hope we can work something out!

Arise thread!!

They're doing a trial weekend in the upcoming days, have you looked into that? And I believe it was on sale earlier this month, so sales will probably come again.

I've been remiss in PM'ing you, DevilStick, but I'll definitely get on that, I'm going to try and fire up GW on my lunch break today. Hopefully, I can resist GW2's siren call.

Sweet! Thank you! I will keep my eyes peeled!

Can y'all tell me what home world you are in currently? I'm doing the trial and have a morbid fear of being stuck somewhere I can't get out of. Thanks!

Northern Shiverpeaks is the server we're on. Check out the GW2 thread maybe you can be part of the guild even with a trial account.
I'll be on later today (~6-7 hours) if you want to hang out, my main is Eleima Stargazer. Have fun!

GW2 on sale till the 28th.

Arise, for I have a Guild Wars 1 lore update, copied from my post in the GW2 thread:

WP has a very long, but very interesting video about a long standing mystery of Guild Wars lore which was just revealed in the latest raid, dealing with:

Spoiler:

Saul D'alessio

Highly recommended for fans of GW1.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up.

Says you're in a guild.

Invites done to here.

Hmm, is it too late to apologize for never responding to that?

[6:59 am] You have been playing for one hour

I remember first hearing about Guild Wars when it was in beta, because a bunch of the more talkative folks in the Tale In the Desert IRC room were in it. It sounded like they were having fun, but I was under the impression it was primarily a PvP game, and while I would have phrased it differently at the time, I was already doing my best to avoid the toxicity that frequently arises around MMO PvP communities. I don't remember which of us started playing first, but eventually I started playing with sometimesdee, I think maybe around the time Factions was released. As has occurred frequently since, I lost interest and she went deep into the game. As silly as it sounds to me now, I was really turned off by the lack of jumping ability and inability to climb anything. While the game world looked large, those two things always made it feel really claustrophobic to me. I had also grown accustomed to needing to loot good gear, and at the time I think the best stuff was bought/crafted, which took the excitement out of it for me.

[7:59 am] You have been playing for two hours. Please take a break

I also remember really disliking going into the outposts. My first visit to Fort Ranik stands out in my mind; there were *so many people* that it was overwhelming. Chat was a disaster, my screen was so full of names that I went into full sensory overload. It was not an enjoyable experience.

My mother eventually really got into the game, and to a lesser degree my sisters. I tried playing with them when that happened, but the same issues turned me off pretty quickly.

[6:00 pm] You have been playing for 12 hours. Please take a break.

I installed again recently, just before they made some surprise updates. I was surprised how many people were in the game ( especially pre-searing )even before those updates, and there was quite the flood afterwards. Most of my previous qualms were no longer an issue, but my time is a lot more restricted these days so I moved on to other things quickly.

Yesterday for some reason I logged in again and played a small amount. I ended up in Fort Ranik eventually ... and there were exactly two other people there, seemingly AFK. I felt a strange sense of sadness about this, contrasting it against the last time I remembered being there and disliking how packed it was. Part of me hoped to see something close to that for some reason. I went AFK there, and someone did wave while I was gone. I'm alone in the fort when I peak in this morning.

[2:00 am] You have been playing for 20 hours. Please take a break.

One of the interesting things about Guild Wars, is that like many (most?) MMO's of its time, it will never log you out for being idle. I don't know that I'll have time to actually play, but I kind of feel like trying to see how long I can stay logged in, just running in the background.

[7:00 am] You have been playing for one day. Please take a break.

I was a late comer to the game so most of it, including For Ranik, has always been deserted to me.
Kinda regret not going back to finish Prophecies (got stuck at the Ring of Fire), but such is life.

Love reading your reply, Absurd, but yeah… PLEASE take a break.
