Firearm Hobbyist Catch-All

It does and it's pretty straight-forward.

In any event, it will take me a while to get the whole living situation sorted out. I plan on renting for the first year or so just so I can get a better idea of where I do want to live and all that. Plus, the wife is still in Maryland with committments of her own. Until that is sorted, we won't be buying a place. And I don't see myself bringing the guns if I don't have a spot to secure the safe.

How much was .22lr going before this whole ammo shortage started? Seller is asking for $200 for 2100 rounds, four 525 round boxes, of Federal Value Pack. I never tracked how prices where before so I'm unsure if this is a good deal or not.

I think the last time I paid for 22lr, I got 525 round boxes for $12.

Oh jeez. My LGS has the boxes of 325 for $30. =\

I got bricks of subsonic Fiocchi for $30 in November. I bought a brick of CCI Velcitors for $40 last summer. I bought a case of Federal Automatch this time last year for $220.

This question might be a little premature but, the person who can answer it best will be busy soon.

If a firearms owner were to move to Maryland; what kind of hoops would they have to jump through to take their firearms with them?

As far as I know, none. So long as they are not changing ownership, there should not be an issue.

Last August 525 rounds was about $20 at Academy. I got the 2100 from cabella for $82(came with the ammo box).

$12 a box. Amazing.

I paid $84.99 for the same box from Cabella at the beginning of December.

The M44 I ordered from AIM arrived at my house yesterday. Aside from a few small dings and slightly pitted butt plate it appears to be in great shape. I'll probably start stripping off the cosmoline this weekend.

Also put in an order for a H&R Garand at the CMP about a month ago. DBU email showed up last week so hopefully I'll have it in hand around Memorial Day.

Some very lovely WW2 pieces from the sounds of it. Do you have a K98 and SMLE to round it all out?

Zach, what grade Garand did you get? I have been pondering getting one and am leaning at one of the Special grade rifles.

22 ammo is unbelievable. I want to go shoot this weekend, but I am afraid to expend any ammo. Time to break out the Feinwerkbau air rifles.....

It is just a classic commodity bubble. Go ahead and shoot right now. Prices will stabilize to something approaching normality in a couple months.

True. I have already decided that when the smoke clears I am going to start buying 1-2 bricks every paycheck. I will also be buying at least two cases of the new Federal Suppressor ammo when I can get my hands on it.

What is special about "Suppressor" ammo? It's some type of a subsonic load?

Thanks.

I don't have a K98 or SMLE but they're the next on my list. The wife and I have a bunch of renovating to do to our house so these will be the last of my purchases for the foreseeable future.

I ordered a service grade. I've been looking at pictures of people receiving their service grades over the last couple of weeks they look pristine with really low ME and TE numbers. No discernible difference between the service and specials.

I'm totally on board with this. Most of my adult life I never saw any great need to keep much ammo around the house. Typically I'd stop by my local BassPro or Cabella's to grab what I needed on my way to the gun range. Amazing to think how much things have changed, even for the casual shooter just trying to maintain proficiency a few times a year.

So, yeah, once things return to something approaching normal, I'll be keeping a tidy stash of bricks around the house in anticipation of the next round of panic buying. If I do it right, I'll not have to waste another moment of my life waiting on gunbot to find me a deal.

This whole mess is why I try to keep at least 1,000 rounds of every caliber I shoot in the safe at all times.

Someone here recommended that when I made my first post to this thread. I took their advice. Thank you unnamed one.

OTOH, my big safe is scheduled to be delivered in June. 4 month lead from when I ordered. This is a "panic rush" I am glad of. All those people getting their stuff locked down -- good.

I have a small one for the handguns. And waiting till June for any uppers/long gun purchases will ensure they're moderately priced again.

Most suppressor ammo is just subsonic. Right now, there is not a company that makes a plated bullet for 22lr that is subsonic. Federal came out with those at SHOT show. They will help reduce lead buildup in the can.

I am with both Ringsnort and ThinJ. I am not really running low now, but I can guarantee it will never be close again. I am mostly worried about 9mm, 45acp and 22lr. I reload everything else I shoot.

You're welcome.

I want one of these so bad. The civilian version essentially comes integrally suppressed, you just need to get your tax stamp and then get a shroud for the barrel.

Piston drive AR15 in pistol caliber with modular take down. Pretty nice. If money were no object, it might be nice, but my guess is that it is insanely expensive.

Looks sexy. Wonder if it'll make inroads vs the ubiquitous MP5.

Very interesting. I have a friend with a pistol AR in 223. Is is standard gas impingement. It jams quite a bit if you are not shooting 5.56 pressure loads. The piston will be imminently cleaner with the suppressor and should make it less jam-o-matic.

Yes, it will likely be prohibitively expensive. If you want a short, suppressed AR you need to look at this: http://libertycans.net/leonidas.html

The Leonidas looks like a Daniel Defense ISR.

Pretty much. I think the Liberty is shorter.

The big thing I like is that Liberty will build on your existing upper. They will also build it with a pinned suppressor or a threaded suppressor. If you go pinned, it is permanently attached and only costs you one stamp.

I would buy a Leonidas, but I already have a Cyclone I shoot on my 300bk. I can't justify spending another $800+stamp for it even as cool as it is. I have pointed it out to a friend who is in the market, but he will likely go with a thread on or QD so he can put it on other rifles.
