I saw that. We're talking dozens and dozens of portals stacked on top of each other.

Ein and Plav do not seem dissuaded by the "scope" of tasks.

I'm a little worried the golem crusher project is going to bring the server to it's knees, never mind a pigman farm with a crap load of Nethergates.

It would be cool though....

momgamer: Upper Folding is the closest NPC village to spawn, but lacks very many NPCs or trades. Would you mind if I built some buildings there to encourage NPC copulation?

Break out the wah-wah pedal!

Added a melon/pumpkin harvester to my auto-farm.

I don't understand the concept for this one... How do you remove the melons/ pumpkins without removing the plants? How do you trigger said mechanism?

Sorry if this is a noob ish question. I have never quite figured out the redstone/ piston aspect of the game.

Pumpkins and melons grow out from a central stalk. The way the stalk works is that when it matures, it spawns the pumpkin/melon on dirt blocks next to the stalk, not on the stalk itself.

The pistons push a wood block into the dirt blocks next to the stalks. If there's a pumpkin or melon there, it'll be turned into a dropped entity and flow along the water into a hopper. The stalk remains undamaged and will simply grow another melon/pumpkin after a while.

To trigger, I'm using the same cactus drop hoppers that I use to trigger sugar cane harvesting.

I still haven't seen any witches at the hut south of my place, I'm starting to wonder if it's glitched. I'm thinking about leveling the hut and setting up a witch farm to see if that helps any. Also, sweet sweet loots.

All four kill boxes are built and functional at the iron factory... now to work on the other 3 towers MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Thanks!

So you only leave one specific slot open for the melon/ pumpkin? As opposed to 8 potential locations (3x3 square with the stalk in the middle).

A will only grow onto one of 4 blocks directly adjacent. I only have 1 dirt block next to each stalk, so they have no choice on where to grow.

Ruhk; do you or anyone else have a plan for the desert village just to your west (or maybe north)? I am considering putting up a simple cobble fence around it and torching it for safekeeping.

I occasionally raid it's fields for food, but I don't have any immediate plans for it... but what I'm currently building may extend over part of it at some point (I haven't actually measured the distance to the village compared to what I have planned, yet). Feel free to wall & torch it, though.

When I hear(read) about "torching a village", because I've been relistening to both the History of Rome podcast and the Hardcore History podcast, I picture something entirely different than what you guys mean.

Also, I missed playing last night, but seeing Spamalot! was totally awesome.
I wonder...
I may need to build a giant wooden rabbit.

Not at all. I was planning on doing it once I got a tower/keep laid in as a common area for us so I can move out of the church.

Okay, let me know if you want limitations on size and height. They're typically very simple structures, multi-floored with an excessive number of doors, since doors are an aphrodisiac to villagers.

nevermind

I've got one 2-floor apartment building up. The villagers started breeding before it was even done! I kept telling them to get a room and they told me to finish building it. Anyway, got a good number of villagers and some good trades going. Soon we'll probably even start getting iron golems.

Should we build a rail system between a few villages to spread them to different regions? I'm using ghost-town village for now and could fortify it against zombie hoards, etc.

I plan on building up the number of villagers in New Solara when I get bored of wall building so no need for transplants there.

Upper Folding now has an Iron Golem.

Awesome! Between him and that wall there's not going to be anymore zombie silliness in town. That was where I was headed with this anyways. Are there children yet? I want to see the golem give one of them a flower.

Momgamer; do you have a preferred method of building for your door heavy villager encouragement device? I have done them as a basement before to keep the look of the village but had an issue with all of the villagers turning into basement dwelling hermits.

Quintin is the one dancing around with a quiver of Cupid's arrows here.

But no, I don't have a preference. This is something I'm working with for the first time myself. Whatever gets done I'll work with once I get back from PAX.

You can check the map (or overviewer) for a look at the one I built. It's pretty typical of how I build them.

17 stacks of rail puts the Northlands Express a little over half done, not counting powered rail and power. And an actual station. Still.

The existing rail line to the iron factory goes by 2 villiages.

PS it now has Iron rail for the full length.

They become Minecraft players? How meta.

Is there a standard height for the building of underground rail tracks? Is there a standard size? I normally build at around Z=40 and do a 3 high and 3 wide tunnel size.
