Gamer Podcasts

ccesarano, PXA: Listened to some of your show, will finish it tonight. Good stuff!

Oh sweet, thanks! I totally forgot to plug that myself. Thanks for plugging it PXA.

No worries. I'm glad my first time on a podcast didn't sound terrible at least.

I just listened to that today too, and I really enjoyed it. Good work, dudes.

Hey goodjers! Just dropping in for a quick heads up. Those in need of extra gaming podcasts for their daily communte, and a bit nostalgic of the pre-Windows XP era can get their fix with the Upper Memory Block Podcast. I only started listening a couple of weeks ago, and I daresay it's very interesting: there's a nice mix of developer story, tech info, and just general info about the genre, the game itself.

Double post because my connection acted up, sorry!

Just scanning the first page of episodes got me excited. Thanks for the find.

Me too!! I saw titles like King's Quest, and Sam & Max, Space Quest, etc, and I was sold! I binged on twenty episodes in two weeks. Don't get put off by the annoying "you know" idiosyncrasy in the first episode, it utterly vanishes after the second episode.

Plus, the host is Canadian, that's gotta say something, right?

Will have to check that out. I liked Retronauts but got tired of them after a while, this sounds similar but with a PC focus.

Anyone still dying for nostalgia should check out Watch Out for Fireballs if you haven't already. They essentially just play a classic game each week and then talk about it.

The final demise of 1up has meant the end of Active Time Babble. Any suggestions out there for a same style replacement to get my RPG podcast fix?

I was really into them for a while but lost interest. Looking at the archive I think I need to pick up some of the newer stuff (Earthbound is about the newest I have heard).

They also have a new podcast completely dedicated to Dark Souls, if that is your thing. (It is not my thing.)

kuddles, you are amazing AND hampering my productivity. Thank you thank you thank you.

Wow. I deleted this out of my feeds a looooooong time ago.

Yeah, time for me to add it back in!

Finished that A Life Well Wasted episode. It was pretty amazing. Didn't know about the Ulillillia guy.

Must remote into my home computer to download right now.

Grr not showing up in iTunes yet.

It was a bit similar in content to Indie Game: The Movie, but I probably got a bit more enjoyment out of it. It's less pandering. The production values were almost on the level of a Radiolab or TAL episode. I probably need to go back and listen to the old episodes of A Life Well Wasted. I think I listened to the one they did before it stopped and forgot about it.

Just finished listening to part 1 of their Fallout episode. Lots of good nostalgia love.

Garnett: so tell us about Metro Andrew
Andrew: it's a bit like Half-Life
Garnett: yo, imma let you finish, but first I'll run out the clock with a pointless tangent

I think my problem with Weekend Confirmed is that Garnett actually treats it like "his goddamn show".

I don't think he's even conscious of it most of the time. I think it's a combo of alcohol and ADD. Sometimes it's funny, but other times it's intolerable. Lately, it's been more of the latter especially if Jeff doesn't try to reign him in.

Agreed!!! I especially disliked the debate they had on Tomb Raider. I don't mind a good debate, but it did feel like he was "Trolling" as Jeff put it. For every one sentence Jeff is able to get out, Garnett has to go off and spout minutes worth of drivel. I used to love this show but it is starting to get very irritating.

The 102nd HatchetJob.com gaming netcast is about Sleeping Dogs, Ni no Kuni and Rumble in the Dungeon.

Skip to 9m13s for the start of the Sleeping Dogs discussion. Beforehand we chat about AI, distributed computing, social media and human resources.

The last Weekend Confirmed, with the return of Brian Leahy, was easily their best show in years. Really too bad he is no longer a regular!

Leahy was awesome. The others were about on par with what you'd expect. Really I'm getting a bit tired of the Garnett / Jeff Cannata show.

I picked it back up for that one episode specifically because Brian Leahy announced he would be on it his twitter.

Conclusion: I wish Leahy was still doing a podcast.

Yep, best show they've had in recent memory. Leahy and Xav would be my top 2 picks to fill the 3rd and 4th chairs if such a thing were possible.
