Don't propose on April Fool's Day. Unless it is in fact part of an April Fool's joke.

And for a question: Proposing on April 1st. Great idea or Greatest idea?

Does he/she have a fantastic sense of humour? Because that could be the greatest setup ever.

Additional information. I ran the idea past her already a few days ago. Tagging it with these thoughts: You'd be a fool not to! And what are the odds we'd ever forget the date? Zero. We'd be fools to!

She must if she's still with me after all these years.

Spoiler:

She laughed and hasn't dumped me yet.

Sure, my wife laughs at dead baby jokes, that does not mean she is getting one for her birthday.

Serious mode: So because a certain calendar date has been 'assigned' to a thing, nothing meaningful can ever happen on that date without becoming tainted?

Unfortunately, kind of, yeah.

Like if you want to choose Christmas to give someone bad news because it's "just another day", fair enough, but don't be surprised if they flip out at you.

EDIT: Possibly relevant background information: We generally do not play along on April Fool's day, and any 'jests' does not go beyond a sentence or two in depth. No gags, no tomfoolery, no special effort to deceive on that day... just whatever jack-assery would occur on any other day of the year.

I dunno, how often does one see Ides of March sales these days?

Curious... so far 'proposing on April 1st' has been compared to 'dead babies' and 'bad news on Christmas.' Excellent feedback so far! Thank you.
EDIT: Adding betrayal and gruesome murder by multiple stabbing to the list... sheesh!

Feel free to propose on April 1st, but don't make your proposal an April Fool's joke. Proposing to someone and then saying "April fools!" isn't funny even if you turn around and say, "No, just kidding. For reals."

Given that you and her do not see April 1st as a day for playing practical jokes, and I assume that you are wise enough to realize that playing such a joke would be right up there in the list of BAD things, I say go for it.

Also consider that there are about 350 some-odd other days you could choose

Are there any sites online that have the equivalent of free college courses? Basically I'd like to have access to all of the literature for a given type of degree but I could care less about actually getting any credit for it or having to take any tests.

My wife was doing one for genetics a few weeks back, but got annoyed when genetics turned into a math lesson, which she really dislikes. Let me poke her tomorrow evening (tonight is D&D for her, so she won't be home till late) and I'll see where she found it.

I'm doing some MIT OpenCourseWare, but they don't offer "all the literature for a given type of degree". Pretty cool stuff though.

I am having a problem figuring out what fighters I should fill my M1: Colossus with. I want it to them to be as deadly as possible. I am currently thinking of using Argon Eclipse.

It sounds amusing, kind of like getting married on Halloween, then you get divorced and hate an awesome holiday forever. (Actually happened to a friend of mine.)

EDIT: Not to suggest you will definitely get divorced or anything. Sorry, that sounded bad the moment I read it in full post form.

Not sure what they have for Lit, but Coursera is exactly what you're describing.

Khan Academy as well I believe

My parents met on the Ides of March, and they've been married 30+ years - so I guess the stabbing stuff is optional.

Plus, I get to call them every year and leave that "beware the Ides of March" bit on the answering machine. Good times.

No worries! I took your meaning as intended I think.

So, never give birth on Steak & BJ Day, especially if you're having a son because you'll ruin it for him.

10-4.

A lot of schools are behind the Open Classroom Movement. Stanford, MIT, Georgia State, Penn, a pretty long list.

It is called a MOOC-Massive Online Open Classroom.

No, wait, that's not a question...

If you were to recommend me a beard-trimmer, which beard-trimmer would you recommend me?

Buy the Wahl Balding clippers; they are without exception the best of the cheap wahls and I've owned most of them. You will need to buy a separate set of guards as it only comes with grades 0.5, 1 and 1.5 IIRC

Question to the D&D crowd: is there a good software tool to create your characters? PC or Android? I haven't played in 5 - 6 years, and will start a Pathfinder campaign in a couple of weeks. I can't even remember the name of the tool I used back in the day.

Try this?

Well, I got married on September 11, 2004, so I would go with "no" on that one

Rezzy - first grats on your pending engagement whenever it happens.

After many, many years of being married I can tell you we celebrate the anniversary of the wedding but I'm not sure either of use remember the date we were engaged. As long as you are absolutely sure she won't see it as the start of a cruel joke, I'd say ask away. (Just make sure you get through it quickly and you might do it again the next day to make sure she knows you want it to stick )

I got a $10 iTunes card but am not entirely sure what to do with it. I don't do the iOS thing. Their TV shows and movies would be a pain to get viewable on my TV, and I'd rather have stuff like that in my Amazon library, anyway. Is their music still DRM'd?

I would say maybe give it to a friend with an iTunes device. Apple's definition of DRM free is a lot like Henry Ford's concept of "choice."

Not as far as I can tell--I download albums from iTunes and then transfer the MP3s to my Droid and play them just fine.

Huh? It's either DRM-free or it isn't. And iTunes music has been DRM-free for years now.
