Lenovo Y500

Yea! Back into PC gaming after a 10+ year break!

Besides the amazing prices on these ($450 off!) what made you decide on this?
I am considering a laptop to use as my non-desktop machine instead of my Android tablet and I like the looks/price of these.

Scouring around the web revealed that the Lenovo line ranked at the top of entry-level gaming laptops (value/build quality/guts).

The sale price (saved over $600 after including a second NVIDIA card) sealed the deal and the fine folks here at GWJ helped me home in on the best model/configuration (IdeaPad Y500 Laptop - 59360241 w/ GN36 ultra-bay port).

Made out like a bandit, all told.

The lantern is silly.

But I'll bet it keeps the grues away.

Actually, it does! It's an LED lantern. My PC room is basically just a glorified closet and there's been a few power outages that dropped me into total and complete blackness. It's saved me from the grues (or maybe just stubbing my toe) on more than one occasion.

I make sure to check Teefury every day

Not only do they have awesome, unique designs but their shirts are of GREAT quality and super affordable to boot

I just got a Lenovo Yoga ultrabook. It flips back to tablet mode if you want, so it's like a large, heavy, tablet in a pinch. It's not a game powerhouse, but I've been playing stuff like Civ V in touch mode on it.

That, combined with a Nexus 7, are a good combo for me.

They were on sale? I'm going to build these kits and listen to records this afternoon. It's going to be a fun day even though I'm getting over a cold.

Jealous - have fun with the kits!

The Xwing is an awesome build.

Just finished them. Wow, LEGOs got even more awesome than when I was a kid. I'm especially impressed with that X-Wing. I didn't do a great job with the stickers. I should have used tweezers. They're not terrible, though. They fit perfectly in my shelf thing. Gonna have to do some cable hiding eventually, though.

Anyways, That sure was a fun way to spend the afternoon.

You're just showing off your books. Is that the Hobbit box with the JRRT recording?

Yup! The Silmarillion one is next to it in the silver box.

2 weeks ago, my evilmobile engine overheated while driving so I pulled over and parked.

As fate would have it, I happened to stop directly in front of a dealership.

Went in, and in about 45minutes came out with this:

That's the wiki pic of it, but same thing and same color.

White 2014 Hyundai Equus, all options and a dolphin hood ornament with frickin' lasers thrown in for good measure.

The old evilmobile was donated to an organization that works with the Braille Institute.

Now only if I can figure out how to fit a hot tub in the back, I'm good to go.

/evilly yours,
ESA

I still have the double picture vinyl of the Hobbit...not mint at all...and in storage somewhere.
Maybe I should sell it lol

No! I do not need to be posting in here again any time soon.

Woo, I didn't know there was a Silmarillion box too! How's the paper quality in that one? I was always disappointed that that edition of the Hobbit is cheap pulp paper (but that's been assuaged since I got that sweet sweet 75th anniversary hardcover).

It's the same. I actually kind of dig the cheap pulp paper on them. I have the 3 other nice hardback copies of The Hobbit, though, so having it be high quality wasn't a huge concern. This is what the Silmarillion one looks like. It has a CD of Christopher Tolkien reading a chapter.

Can you tell that winter is pretty much done in this part of the world?

SPD-SL pedals (I think)? Nice choice.

But...but...Seattle only has 2 seasons: Winter and July 4th.

Spoiler:

I hate that joke.

Yup. Trading up from my workhorse, but clunky as hell, SPD mountain bike pedals.

Going by the maxim of spending money on interface points between me and the machine (also dropped some coin in a fresh pair of aerobar pads, using the same idea).

Jonman, What is the advantage of the seat configuration like that (the split front)? Is it a comfort thing? or just a lightness improvement.

Looks like a HANS device for his twig and berries.

I've been running those for about four years. They're great, and super easy to get in and out of with a couple days' practice.

Head and nuts support?

The selling point is that it "removes pressure from the perineum and soft tissues". So, basically, stops your balls and taint from hating you.

My old saddle, that I inherited, rather than chose, was really uncomfortable for anything longer than a 2 hour ride. I'm riding an alu framed TT bike, so it's pretty unforgiving in terms of transmitting shock and vibration to the rider. Beyond hour 3, my ass would be very unhappy with me - couldn't stay down on the aerobars anymore, and had to stand to let the blood back into my taint every few minutes.

I've only been out on this one once so far, by I'm liking it a lot. Significant difference in long-term comfort, and I don't even have it's position fine-tuned and dialled in yet.

Yeah, I've got a set of SPD's and once you get the hang of it, they make a massive difference to your power transfer.

Sorry to be crude Jonman,

But depending on sack size, I believe that bike seat could either be heaven or the pure bane for the jibblies.

No matter, I scoff at bikers from the perched view atop my Segway of Evil.

You do realize that I'm not riding it naked, right?

Well, yeah. You did just post the shoes, duh.

(I think you might be doing it wrong...)
