I can't count the reasons I should stay, One by one they all just fade away. Community S6! #andamovie

One step forward and two steps back. I enjoyed about 1/3 of the jokes, and generally speaking they were smaller moments surrounded by some gaping holes in the Community lattice. Most unfortunate. Like the first two episodes this season it's got enough to keep me watching but has me longing for Community of old even more.

After watching this episode I felt the urge to go over it again, it just didn't feel right and I wanted to understand why. Here are my notes.

Best/Britta'd moments

Spoiler:

The best:
Slip up with a co-ed
"Put that on the rack, put that in the fridge."
Spawncraft
No dioramas
Luftballoons
SS shirt
Raccoon
Changnesia
Troy and Abed Podcast (more for the concept than execution)

The worst:
The Burn Notice joke
He's no Nick Kroll
Austria/Canada
German accents
Oktoberfest
Study room montages
Apparently the writers don't remember the puppy parade
Remember the last time Annie got a bad grade?
Ruse, it was funny as a one off
...Changnesia, that dragged more and more

Spoiler:

He couldn't go to the puppy parade, he had a final the next day!

"They lost a pen" had me rolling.

Any episode with "Daybreak" can't be all bad.

I think this was the best episode of season 4 so far, but, I can't shake the feeling that something is off this season. I still see the traits from the characters that I love to watch, but it seems like the heart of the show left with Harmon.

Still. I like the show more than most other shows.

Same thing that was slightly off last season: No John Oliver.

Wait, when did that happen?

Abed queued it up, to play them out in the podcast tag.

EDIT: NBC link

Damn you DVR, it cut off at "we got a th..."

You can never get sick of Daybreak.

Alright, I think it's time for me to take this show off my DVR. I really want to like it but I just don't find it funny anymore

Sorry to hear that. My wife and I are still enjoying it but it does seem a bit off from the other seasons.

Happy Thanksgiving tonight!

Dinner with the Wingers, can't wait!

Happy Thursday!

Jeez did no one comment post-episode last week?

Enjoyed Abed's Shawshank stuff.

I enjoyed that part a lot, but I feel like they're pushing too hard on the "Winger is a good guy underneath the jerk exterior" thing. That's always been there but it feels really forced and extreme this season, especially that episode. The balance feels off.

I think it was forced even more in the beginning of the season premiere.

Beef? Do we need to move this thread to P&C?

Think it's a gag from a thread elsewhere, which is lacking a smiley.

My beef is that Bonus thinks he's Batman and he's not. I am. I have the TA ratio to prove it.

You're Tracheotomy Batman. Don't get too excited.

Adorbs. Totes adorbs, Kilmer.

So, I mostly enjoyed it, but it's tough to shake the feeling that they're doing B grade riffs on A grade episodes.

QFT. I never thought I'd see the day where I got more laughs out of Parks and Rec than Community.

I very much enjoyed Britta Britta-ing the camera work.

Not one genuine laugh in an entire episode. First time ever.

Hey, you're right. Me too.

My wife came in while I was watching and asked what I was doing. My response "Watching the slow demise of what was once one of the greatest shows in TV history." Which was only further confirmed by a lack of Troy and Abed ending.

In my head, "Is it worse to have a show suddenly cancelled or to watch it slowly die" will now join the list of "ninja or pirate" type questions with no truly satisfactory answers.

That's about where I am. I enjoy watching the episodes but it's definitely lower quality. It's not abysmal though, I'm surprised to hear people say they didn't laugh once.

OMG. Puppets.
