Demon's Souls - Catch All

It's one of the few games that has copy protection on its saves. The only way to transfer saves is through the cloud, or system transfer and backup.

Yeah, I googled a bit and saw cloud saves work, but PS3 cloud saves are different, and I don't have PS+ atm. Might wake up and think about it tomorrow. Thanks!

Just take the PS3

That's kind of a pain. I think I'll try my free month of PS+ and see how that works, though.

It works great. However, for games with locked saves like Demon's Souls, there's a 24 hour window after the save is uploaded before you'll be able to download it again.

Well, that kills it for this weekend. Also, they wanted a credit card, which is annoying.

Back in town, and wasted no time getting back at it. Polished off 4-1! Adjudicator was super easy once I got down on his level.

Also: Man, this game REALLY wants you to have a ranged option. The 2-1 spider boss is cake with a bow. The 3-1 boss in the church, too. And I hate to imagine how you'd do for the Adjudicator without range.

I think I'm going to go towards a Faith build, since I like using Heal and just bought Evacuate. That said, I'm loving the MP regen on the curved sword I found.

Need to research how to get the proper stones, as well as what to do about upgrading a bow.

QUESTION: Can you only be summoned to a boss you haven't defeated? I thought I'd help someone get Adjudicator, but I couldn't.

You should still be able to be summoned once the boss is dead.

Weird. Couldn't drop my sign anywhere.

Yeah you can definitely help with bosses you have already defeated. I think there may be a limitation in world 1, but I've had no issues grouping with Rivlen for every single boss so far, some he has killed first, but most I killed first with his help, then helped him with it.

Question: On 2-2, if you go left, you can take an elevator down, and find a cave full of crystal lizards and two black phantoms - how do you get the elevator back if you die?

There should be a lever nearby to bring it back up/down. All the elevators have levers.

I looked, but I'll look again.

I think that particular one is to the side a bit, not right by the elevator.

Found it, thanks!

Finished 5-1 last night, and got just enough Faintstone to start a Blessed Longsword.

Now all X-1 levels are down, and 1-2 is as well.

Flamelurker is dead as disco, baby!

I used the Thief's Ring method, FYI.

Now I'm off to research boss soul weapons...

Congrats As I mentioned, he is the brick wall for a lot of people in that game. Other bosses will still provide a challenge, but you'll figure them out quickly.

Do not make or use the Meat Cleaver. It's hard to learn, looks totally bad ass, and you can knock people to the ground with it. Uhm... still not convinced? It's kind of like the Zweihander, but way more bad ass. See? Won't be any fun at all!

Yeah, I've beaten a number of bosses on the first try, which blows my mind since so many people consider this game harder than Dark Souls.

That includes:

Phalanx
Fool's Idol
Wriggling maggot thing in 5-1

Ok, so not that many.

Thanks for the tip, Dakuna. I'm not looking to Platinum the game, so I'll only make weapons that are really of use. Since I'm looking at a Faith build, I don't see any boss weapons that are musts. I'll probably choose the Miracle in cases where one soul does both.

Is the Lava Bow worth making? Having a bow has been invaluable so far.

I think people generally underestimate how much mechanical skill carries over between these games. It is almost guaranteed that whichever game you play second is going to seem much easier than the first.

At first, the number of deaths people referenced for a first playthrough of Dark Souls absolutely baffled me, but I had to remind myself that I beat Demon's Souls 4 times before I ever touched Dark Souls. How long did it take you to reach Anor Londo on your first playthrough? How about your 2nd? It's not quite the same thing between the 2 games, but I think it's pretty similar.

Absolutely. The only reason you would want another bow would be if you were making a DEX character aiming for multiple playthroughs.

Fair point. My second playthrough was almost a sprint to Anor Londo and those f*cking archers. That character (STR based) did have to try Gaping Dragon 3 or 4 times, though. I think I finally used Lightning Resin on Zweihander and that was all it took.

The Meat Cleaver has a good faith modifier. Just saying.

Dragon God down. Urbain rescued, which is key for me, being a Faithful dude.

Any tips for 5-2? I keep getting destroyed by Meat Cleaver Phantom and the giant depraved one.

Fight the Cleaver Phantom on one of the small islands. If you have a good enough weapon you will crush her. I don't know which giant you're talking about there are a lot.

Yeah, you really have to watch your surroundings closely on 5-2. Lure the giant depraved and cleaver phantom onto a nearby island with some room to maneuver.

I was already doing that, so I may have to just come back later. I want to do 5 because it's the source of Faintstone.

When I went back to Demon's Souls last year, 5-2 was the area that gave me the most trouble after playing Dark Souls. Stupid swamp.

Blight Town from Dark Souls is laughable in comparison. I hate 5-2 so, so much.

Odd, I don't remember it as being very difficult. I found the intimidation aspect far out weighed the actual facts.
