Space Sims/Strategy Games Catch-All

Space Sector has a nice preview of StarDrive up with very positive impressions. If it weren't for Heart of the Swarm just being released I would be all over it.

That's about what I was going to say.

Is this the right place to talk about The Pit? I sort of enjoyed the demo. What I didnt like about it were some of the controls and the pace of it. I got to level 5 and barely felt threatened the whole time, but still had lots of stopping and starting and the overall slow speed of things to contend with, so if the full game is like that, it might take an hour to get to a more meaty experience, only to die and have to spend that hour again.

Thoughts?

Edit to note: This is coming from an avid Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup player. I'm used to being able to nudge a door or a badguy to open/attack (context sensitive interactions) auto-picking up anything useful if badguys aren't around, and having my actions helpfully interrupted if a monster is spotted. Heck, you can even auto explore in that game. End result being that you can more easily jam through the early stuff to get to the fun stuff in the middle (where I always die)

Maybe because I have no context for that picture, but for some reason the glare from the old lady makes me automatically give it the title: The Instant Before Impact.
Gravity is a fierce and fickle mistress.
Work is being dastardly and I haven't had a chance to listen to the new episode yet. So I'm trying to figure out how to load it onto my Windows Phone and I'm being thwarted. Is it only listed on iTunes?

GET OFF MY LAWN YOU YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPER!

(It's from the Mary Tyler Moore Show during the introduction, the line is "You're going to make it after all!" Oh, and that blurry thing above MTM's head is a hat. The old lady is glaring because she feels toward MTM what I am feeling toward you right now. )

That's because it's not a well-constructed Kickstarter, I think. Although this guy produced f*cking STARFLIGHT, even I'm "meh" on it.

Speaking of which, I've been playing the Genesis version of Starflight on emulator. Still freaking awesome. Any of the remake/reboots any good?

I can't honestly say, I've not tried in ages. This is the only one I know of that claims to be complete:

https://sites.google.com/site/starfl...

So it's on my list.

And yeah, surprisingly the Genesis version is the best version of that game.

You know they're available on GoG, don't you?

Argh. Finally got around to trying Galaxy on Fire 2 HD... and there's no mouse-y-inversion.

There's an option to "invert controls" in the options menu, but it doesn't actually work for the mouse. Maybe it's for gamepad only?

I guess I could play with my pad, but this feels like it would be easy enough for a point-and-shoot kind of flight.

Even with FPS games I invert the mouse. I cannot play this way. Time to poke around forums for a fix.

I supposed I could flip the axes in my mouse settings, but that might make menu selections a little odd.

The Genesis version isn't.

Yeah, no kidding, kids these days.

It's a story that no doubt mirrors Veloxi very closely. A young women, implied to be recently divorced, moves to the big city (Minneapolis!) to start her career and inspire other women to independence.

It's all true except for Minneapolis, because BORING...

Yeah, the interface to the PC versions was just atrocious. I remember them being bad when they were new.

I gelled with it just fine with it when it was new, but yeah, the word "obtuse" is the nicest work I can think of. I was really surprised at how much smoother the Genesis version played. That first landing really surprised me though.

I think you mean "landing."

Heh, yeah, it was more like crashing/bouncing.

Decided to reinstall Space Rangers 2 to keep myself from buying more games. SELL ME THE DAMN HD UPGRADE ALREADY!
I just hit the point where I can actually survive Dominator encounters as long as I don't get surrounded and I take the time to target a few torpedoes when possible. Still not a fan of the Wormhole encounters. Never quite sure if I should be hunting or collecting or what... and if there are more than one enemy it usually turns into a war of attrition that I lose.

As a guy who never played Space Rangers, I'm assuming this is a folly that should be corrected. What kind of game is this thing - looks like 5 titles in one...

Wasn't Space Rangers supposed to come out today? I don't see it on Steam just yet.

Yes, yes you should. It's a turn-based space combat/trading/adventure game that also includes arcade combat, RTS and text adventure game bits.

For some reason I'm recalling the 18th. We'll see soon I guess.

On another note, I'm getting caught up on The Conference Call, and just listened to episode 329. Some...PERSON on that show compared Strike Suit Zero favorably in the same sentence as Wing Commander and freaking TIE Fighter.

I almost crashed the f*cking car. That is just soooooooo wrong.

Yeah, there's about 18 versions of it by now, as they keep re-packaging and selling the same game over and over. The new Space Rangers HD is supposed to be out in the next day or two, and should, at least in theory, be the Space Rangers To Rule Them All. Buy that version, and you shouldn't need anything else.

Son of a biscuit! It looks like there's a delay for the non-Russian version of Space Rangers HD: A War Apart.

It’s time for an official statement to clear any confusion: March 15, 2013 is the release date of the Russian version of the game. Due to a large amount of translation the English version will be announced later.

f*ckin' boooooooooooooooo

X3:AP Help
I am having a problem figuring out what fighters I should fill my M1: Colossus with. I want it to them to be as deadly as possible. I am currently thinking of using Argon Eclipse.

We actually have an X3 terran Conflict thread. There is an AP one to, but pretty small. The TC one has tons of good stuff in it.

I'd have to revisit the spread sheets, but if memory serves the Eclipse is a solid choice. Will this be primarily for In Sector or Out of Sector combat?

If OOS the turrets may not help as much, since OOS approximations gloss over those sort of tactical gains.

I just want to do the main story line and that was a enemy M2 in it so will they be able to take it?
For some reason I cannot find the AP trend …
