Bathroom remodel

I'd recommend just dumping the tub. Showering in a tub always sucks and isn't worth the benefit of the occasional bath you get as a trade off.

A big pre-pack shower like the first one complex linked is awesome, especially for 2 people.

And a shower may leave space for the 2 sinks.

And, as a public service. The joke you're missing. http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/4...

*I* would be fine with just a shower, or a nice big shower, but the SO wants the tub, so there we are.

And thanks for the link, I am now suitably informed.

Tubs are nice for filling up with water that you may need during an extended power outage or a zombie apocalypse.

Excellent point!

These are more like Japanese bathing tubs. We has a client who was going to do one, but the tub he wanted was some rare wood and became too difficult to import with all of the CSA approvals, and cost.

The Japanese tubs are typically sunk into the floor though, which is what I'd do for a soaking tub provided there wasn't a concern about little kids falling in. You're also supposed to wash before you get in a soaking tub so there's no stewing in filth. Either way, if you want to use the tub for soaking I'd recommend using a curtain instead of installing a shower door. Shower doors make the whole tub experience kind of claustrophobic.

I thought I should pimp my project. One of the two bathrooms we remodeled last year:

Nicely done!

Wow. My bathroom is about that size as well. Looks like you did a great job on it, very clean!

Now can I borrow a boatload of money so I can do that to mine also?

That's a nice bathroom, Gorilla. My pre-war Brooklyn apartment-dwelling ass wishes I could do this where I live.

Well done Gorilla. Sadly, my DIY skills are rather lacking. I've had a contractor friend take a look at my bathroom and quote over $10k for a full remodel. Does it really cost that much just to do a nice but not upscale remodel?

Yep. Things get expensive fast when water is involved. And tile. Etc.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Below are the quick shots of the other bathroom -- the master bedroom's one. It's really small, but before the remodel, it wasn't even a full bathroom -- it only had a bowl and a sink. We moved the wall that separated the two bathrooms to re-partition them in a new way. At the last moment we had to change the vanity & cabinets, and I wasn't quite happy about how much space the new one takes up, but learned to live with that.

It started out expensive, and went up from there. We could have bought a car instead. BUT! The shower accommodates two users simultaneously. I grew to appreciate that far more than a new car.
