No kidding! One of the reasons he thought up the idea was so he'd have more daylight time to collect insects! The monster!

I don't care about the why. I'm never going to not hate them for guaranteeing at least one more day where I'm tired and miserable. Trying to go to bed earlier never works. Ever.

Yesterday while cleaning the basement, something happened when I turned a certain way and I tweaked out my back. I never have back problems. Couldn't sleep very well and it's been a fair amount of pain to move around all day. It's very obviously muscle spasms. Holy crap back issues suck. I have an even greater sympathy for the poor people that have to endure this on a regular basis. I don't know how they keep sane. I really hope this is gone by tomorrow so I don't have to take a sick day. I've basically managed to get nothing done I wanted to do today.

Oh also, sitting down to do a final commentary recording on the first episode of my new YouTube series, not checking levels beforehand and realising after recording it that my headset's mic was turned off. Have I mentioned this is like the 5th recording of this I've done? Yeah.

Since I was about 27 I have had chronic backpain, and it has only been in the last year or so that I have been able to deal with it. Basically working out and doing more situps in the last six months than I have ever done in my life has removed all loss of motion, and made the pain easier to deal with.

Getting older sucks.

Yeah, I've been doing an average of an hour of treadmill a day for over a year to try to lose weight but that's all I've been doing. I should start mixing it up. I'm really hoping this is just a one-time thing and that it won't be a frequent issue. If it's not gong before tomorrow though, I'm probably going to call a physiotherapist. The one thing everyone I've talked to about this has said is "Don't f*ck around with your back. If it lasts more than a day, get it checked out." The most frustrating thing is this has sucked all the wind out of my sails today. I have no desire to do anything except sit. The last time I felt this uninterested in anything was when I was still fairly deep in depression. Really sucks when I had plans to do a bunch of other stuff today.

Well, I can certainly sympathize. My PC seems to have picked up a case of the gremlins this weekend just as I hit the final stretch of BioShock. Yay first world problems!

I don't want to sound like Debbie Downer here, but back pain is a very much a case of YMMV. For example, with three slipped discs in my low back - working out (except at very low intensity) and situps are completely off limits for me. What did work for me was a lot of physiotherapy, some exercises and some posture modification. I know people for whom only surgery worked. And yet others who got better with acupuncture/ayurveda/.

The only safe bet IMO, is to go see a orthopedic surgeon and take it from there.

I've got an appointment with an RMT at 1:15pm today that my girlfriend loves and who has helped her with back issues before. They're agreed to take a look and they'll tell me if I need to get it further checked out. This proibably isn't the most ideal thing but wait times for this kind of thing are so long in this province that it's either this or suffer for hours at a clinic just to maybe get a physio referral. Things are definitely no better today than they were yesterday and it got a bit worse this morning because this of all days was the one the puppy decided to be a dick and not come in from outside when called, so I had to go get him and slipped in the process. Great Monday.

You don't need a referral to see a physiotherapist. Unless you're saying this because you want your benefits to cover it. Which means you don't need a referral for a RMT to be covered by it which is a pretty weird coverage setup if true.

I was under the impression that physiotherapists basically didn't see you without a doctor's referral. I appear to be mistaken which is a good thing. The RMT has told me that if they feel I need physio, they will be sure to let me know. I believe my girlfriend went to this RMT without a referral and the benefits covered it (she uses the same provider we do) so hopefully I don't need one either.

Well, not to jinx it, but you should see a physiotherapist at some point anyways if this back problem ends up being a recurring one, because as you grow older it's only bound to get worse. A few years ago after a rather troublesome bout of waking up in the middle of the night in horrible pain, I got diagnosed with having osteoarthritis in my lower back as being the culprit. Being someone who also doesn't involve myself in traditional sports and spends all day and plenty of nights sitting at a computer desk probably doesn't help things either. The physiotherapy - which dealt with everything including teaching me specific exercises to do as well as which ones to avoid doing - has turned it from being practically unbearable to a mild and occasional nuisance.

I got a referral since I went to a doctor for the problem and my insurance won't cover it otherwise, but it's only public clinics which operate under OHIP who will only accept you with a referral. Most outpatient physiotherapist clinics will take anybody.

I'm just curious, what does RMT stand for?

Yellek wrote:

Registered massage therapist: licensed masseuses with physio/kinesiology training for rehab or pain/stress relief.

My wife uses all of both her and my coverage going to her RMT between her 4x12-hour sets as a nurse.

Thankfully, I confirmed that my benefits don't require a referral for physio (or RMT) as long as it's a licensed joint. My girlfriend's Mom had some horrendous back issues a while back (that got as bad as they did because she ignored them, I ain't doin' that) and there's a physiotherapist nearby that she loves. The RMT did help some but it's still really bad and walking at a decent pace is not easy. If this continues tomorrow, I'll be calling the physio clinic and seeing how fast they can take me. This is becoming debilitating.

I hate the fact that some swine is trying to use my credit card right now. Thank God for HSBC's fraud prevention system.

Someone tried to take my google account today. Luckily, google identified the IP in China. Still, lots of password changes.

Run, don't walk, and turn on 2-factor authentication. Sure, you'll need to have your phone on you to log in to your Google account from new devices/places, but it will require hijackers to have your phone to take your account.

God-f*cking-dammit next door's rat-sized dog, I will f*cking shoot you into the sun...

Context: The stupidly little thing was yapping for about 2 hours last night, for no apparent reason.

Ahh, toothache pain. So fantastic.

I got everything to work. I swear I'm becoming an old man sometimes. PC drives me crazy sometimes. I got it to work by re downloading 8 gigs and re install it to work. My time is short and valuable.

Thongs.

I'm not sure it matters, really.

I don't know whose sock puppet this is, but I approve.

Totally there with you on this one. I am trying to hold out until April since my insurance has been giving me sh*t about pre-existing conditions on other stuff. Also just isn't a good time to take off from work lately. For the second time in less than a week I was one of two people who didn't call in sick or go home way early at our Help Desk. We normally have 5 people on the day shift but only had 2 today and one person from the evening shift called in and the other was 6 hours late so I stayed an extra hour to cover for her (she had to check her dad into the hospital).

Rumor has it that the Regional Manger has revoked and will not approve all PTO requests since we are not making money. I find myself wondering how this will make us work harder and endear the company to us.
