Further down the row there is a Wii U GamePad tab, and there you can choose "Select GamePad Audio-Output Type" and likewise change the output to Surround, Stereo or Mono.

Does the Wii GamePad actually support surround? Doesn't it just have a typical headphone jack? Or is there an optical output on the gamepad?

I'm not sure, it may just be a "simulated surround" effect. It has a headphone jack, 1/8", there's no optical output, you are correct.

When I tried switching between stereo and surround, using the speakers on the GamePad, it seemed that the sound was more phased and coming from sources that were wider than the speakers. So I'm guessing it's a simulated surround effect coming from two speakers, rather than true surround.

OK, OMG, Bit Trip Runner 2... so awesome. SO awesome. I'd never played a rhythm runner game like this before, I'm really digging the sync between the music and the placement of the pick ups... very cool. The music is good. Worth picking up, and worth supporting the developer who supported the Wii with multiple WiiWare games.

I just want to keep playing and playing.

I broke down and picked up a Wii U deluxe yesterday with Super Mario, and ZombiU. I'm adding a bunch of you guys, but last night I couldn't add anyone in miiverse (it was always greyed out) so I have to do it through the regular Friends List.

Did you buy the ZombiU bundle?

No. It was better for me to do the Target deal (system w/$25 gift card) then I used the gift card toward the buy 2 get 1 free on the software. The update process was just over an hour, it would have been nice to skip that part.

When I got on this morning though I was able to add friends via Miiverse, so be on the look out for incoming friend request.

Sent out a few friend requests. I think I did it right, but time will tell. My Nintendo Network ID is Rallick, but I haven't posted anything yet. Also, the only games I have are Nintendo Land and Just Dance 4 (regular Wii edition) for the girls, so nothing to play with others just yet.

Yes, for the girls. I would never stoop to dancing like a loon in front of my TV. Or using the exercise module of the game. Definitely not.

Welcome to the club of secret Just Dancers with daughters... :)

It's good to know I'm not the only one.

Quick question about ZombiU. I've only fired it up once and didnt play long because the kids came home. If I run into one of your old characters will the game tell me it was one of you?

Yeah. If you die, your zombie will be around and above its head will be whatever name the game generated for them. If you run into a friend's zombie, it'll be their Nintendo Network ID.

I had fun offing atras126 twice.

Thanks Blind. I need to find the time to play this game.

Is anyone else playing Bit.Trip Runner2?

Nice, congrats on finishing! Any way to go back and get the 'good' ending without starting over?

I bought it. I'm not good about playing downloadable titles though, so it might be a while before I actually have anything to say about it.

But hey, ZombiU is in the bag!

Spoiler:

Got the bad ending. It was refreshing though, too often games determine your outcome by your own choices or how many fluff missions you completed. True to itself and the experience til the very end, the conclusion here is only determined by your preparation, decision-making, and skill. In that order.

Overall it's a very good game, which I hope some other survival horror games take notes off. Few match the intense focus on display here, and few games in general are as rewarding. I'd recommend it to anyone who has the nerves and owns a Wii U.

Ah, nope. Maybe I should've spoiler-tagged that bit.. non-story spoiler for you below:

Spoiler:

No, once you see either of the endings you can no longer load that save.

I picked up Little Inferno and holy sh*t is that game dark. I had to put it down for a while after:

Spoiler:

I got a letter from my little friend next door as she was burning to death.

I loved that game so much. I first bought it on Steam and then the WiiU.

So is there something about the Wii U version that makes it unique versus PC? I'd like to try this out but if the versions are similar, I might wait for a Steam sale on PC.

Nope. It seems identical. I just wanted it on the WiiU so others could play it without having to sign into my Steam account. Besides, it looks great on the 55in TV and the soundtrack is great.

I got it on the Wii U because I was browsing the Wii shop and saw it there first. Though to be fair, it's a lot easier to miss on a service like Steam, which has more than 10 products.

Biggest benefit to me was that I could play it on the Wii pad like a tablet game while watching a movie on my PS3. Though to be honest, the game was far more interesting and engaging than the movie.

Did any Euro-GWJers try out Zen Pinball 2's Wii U port? If so, how was it and what selection of tables did they launch with? It is supposed to launch in NA any time now, and I am trying to decide whether to keep buying tables on the PS3/Vita or wait and switch over to the Wii U.

I'm anticipating this title as well, I really like pinball.

Hopefully the NA release comes soon!

Looks like LEGO City Undercover isn't bad. Game Informer's Jeff Cork gave it an 8.5 out of 10. Nintendo Everything has the quote.

Reviewer Jeff Cork was impressed with Undercover’s storyline, GamePad usage – except for the instances in which players must rotate the controller for 360-degree scanning – and hub elements. Cork wrote that developer TT Fusion “has absolutely nailed the best part of sandbox games.”

However, Cork felt that the game could have done a better job with its world so that players could be more motivated to participate in additional missions. Other than citizens involved with Undercover’s critical path, you won’t come across strangers on the streets in need of help.

Cork wrapped up by noting that LEGO City: Undercover “isn’t perfect, but I can’t think of another Wii U game that I’d recommend more. … It’s the most interesting and highly polished game in TT Games’ large repertoire, and it fills an important game gap.”

Well, whatever the score means, at least it's not utter crap. I think I'll get this one. Anyone else picking this up?

On the other hand, I hear Edge gave it a 5/10. No tidbits of the review, but the Brits are always harsher than the rest of the games press

This type of thing drives me nuts. I turned off the motion controlled camera in Gravity Rush (Vita) because you can't fully rotate the camera without rotating your body, and I don't like it in Pokemon Dream Radar either (hard to swing all the way around when you're... sitting down.)

Anyway, I'm in for Lego City Undercover at release. I may swing by Gamestop tomorrow to preorder it. Amazon has a shipping delay notice that we saw with Fire Emblem: Awakening, so we'll see what happens. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is out the day after, and I plan to buy that digitally, so I'll be getting my Wii U fix around then anyway.

Random thing I just found while looking at Best Buy's site: if you search "Fire Emblem" the last result is the previously teased Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem crossover. It's listed at $59.99 for Wii U. Not sure if any stock should be put into that, but I sure would be glad if it on Wii U and not 3DS. I'd imagine most of our SMT fans here would be less pleased.

Actually even though I don't have a Wii U, I like the idea of it on the Wii U. I want good games on the Wii U but I also want to see variety in the SMT games as well.

My daughter has it pre-ordered. It's the one title she was looking forward to when we bought the Wii U.

I always thought that the SMT X Fire Emblem was a Wii U title. It was announced alongside "X" from Monolithsoft during the Wii U focused Nintendo Direct.

And, truth be told, I was able to pre-order both titles at Best Buy in Canada almost immediately after the announcement. Which I did.

Oh huh, forgot that the announcement Direct was Wii U specific. Ah well.

It's ok, it was sort of a long time ago.

Just counting down the days until Monster Hunter releases. It will be that and LEGO City taking up all my game time for the next little while...

I'm only less pleased because I don't have a Wii U, yet. Otherwise, I'm cool with it.
