Things you should know by now, but only just discovered

I've known this for years but thought it would be helpful to someone.
Do not prepare Totino's Pizza Rolls like they say to in the directions, that leaves you with a product liable to burn your mouth and tastes like sh*t. Here's what you do to make them delicious.
Cook them for 14 minutes (maybe 15). Why? When cooked as I describe, the rolls will burst open, the filling will start cooking on your baking sheet and the shell will get crunchy. When the edge of the filling that is spilled onto the baking sheet has been burnt (and a thin bottom layer of filling, but you won't see that until you scrape them off), they are perfect.

edit: talking about the Pepperoni Pizza Rolls, don't know about the others.

I just learned that my Vega Tenor Banjo is from July 27, 1929.

A guy I work with knows a programmer at Ubisoft Montreal who worked on Far Cry 3. Not only is the guy who plays Vaas eerily similar in both voice and appearance to the game's character, he's apparently originally from Orleans which is a suburb of Ottawa! That's just really cool to me for some reason.

We will fight in the shade. Now see if you can find him in Band of Brothers.

That Arthur C. Clarke was gay, lived in Sri Lanka and discovered a temple while scuba diving. Super fascinating life.

Never knew those points about Clarke, and I don't know how. I think I find the gay thing most surprising, if only because that's the sort of thing I'd expect to be posthumously telegraphed and sort of unavoidable, and this is the absolute first I've heard of it. I don't know whether to take that as, "Hey, cool, it's no big deal!" or "Jeez, how much has this info been suppressed?", but either way, thanks for sharing, Edwin! Super interesting info, there.

I had the same exact reaction. I can't wait to read his private diaries and notes to be released 30 years past his death.

I did not know he was gay, and I consider myself a pretty big Clarke fan.

I knew he lived in Sri Lanka, and I think I heard the temple thing at some point as it does sound slightly familiar. Did not know he was gay though. Maybe that's why HAL is such a Female Doggo.

Huh, I didn't know that until now, but it was apparently a bit of an open secret and part of the reason he relocated to Sri Lanka.

If a youtube video is buffering, with the circle of translucent white dots, you can use the arrow-keys to play snake.

Lemmy played bass and sang for Hawkwind before forming Motörhead

WHAT?! Man, I have to find a crappy Internet connection so I can try that...

I hear the Konami code works in youtube that way too, though I've not confirmed this my self.

You can trigger it at any point and play snake over the video your are watching.

Why have I only just discovered that this is possible?

I didn't know you had to refrigerate maple syrup until yesterday.

And to think that I can't even consistently tie a Double Windsor. (Single, sure. Double -- should it really be that much harder?)

I think that the Double Windsor is easier once you get it down because it's fairly symmetrical. Just put some time in to get it so you can do it in your head. As to those fancy pants ties, they are cool. However, I know that if I went with one, I would instantly feel awkward.

Canada is cold for a reason!

It's so we can use the vast quantities of maple syrup we've hoarded in cold storage over the decades to slow you down at the border while the geese, beavers, and moose finish you off.

Thing I should have known; the plural of moose is moose.

Now my curiosity is piqued, what did you call the plural of moose previously?

Moosii? Meese?

I never needed the plural before that post so I didn't have a word for it.

There's one moose. And another one over there.

My Double Windsor sometimes ends up looking like the Cape Knot. #hipanddidntknowit

Thing I just learned (again) that I should know by now: my wife is always right. Always.

Fun fact the plural of any animal with antlers is the same as the singular; elk, deer, moose, caribou, etc.

Don't make jokes about maple syrup, or the maple syrup cartel might come after you
