3DS Catch-all

The Fractured Souls demo just kind of dumps you into the game, with no setup, and therefore no reason to care about the story

That's.... kinda because there IS no story.

I started a Resident Evil Revelations Catch-All if anyone wants to chat about the 3DS game or upcoming HD port.

I still have Code of Princess Etrian Odyssey 3 to beat and so this may be the wrong thread to ask, but would anyone like to un-enable me on Mirror of Fate and Etrian Odyssey 4?

Etrian Odyssey 4 is just another JRPG, no? I'd sooner go back and play DragonQuest IX or Pokemon Black personally.

Mirror of Fate? Have you played Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin yet? These are both traditional Castlevania games. Plus you have Luigi's Mansion around the corner, Fire Emblem is a really good game and Animal Crossing is coming soon as well.

No, it's not really like either of those. It's a first-person dungeon crawler more along the lines of Wizardry or Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. Not many of those make it Stateside, so it's hard to discourage someone from playing it if they're interested in that kind of game. The only reason I'd take a pass on it now (and am taking a pass on it now) is if they have other things to play and aren't worried about buying it digitally when the physical copies inevitably become scarce.

Played more Crashmo and am getting better at it. It's very fun.

He was asking to be de-enabled. Did I miss something?

EO4 might just be the best modern dungeon crawl I've played, and I tend to play them all...

I'm sorry, what was the question again?

Hmm let me try, because people around here are clearly not very good at this sort of thing.

Etrian Odyssey IV is filled with pictures of Lolita-esque anime girls so playing it will make you look like a pervert to your wife/girlfriend, parents, co-workers, and casual acquaintances. You might as well start filing in that "are you a registered sex offender" checkbox on job applications now, buddy.

So late to the train on this, but Crimson Shroud.

Firstly, after my brother and friends tried so hard to pester me into it, Crimson Shroud finally convinced me that I want to play D&D again. The miniatures are one thing. Cute and stuff. But the narration, the exploration of the dungeon, and the dice rolling. Oh dear Lord.

I've mentioned before that I would love to see a 4-player co-op remake of the original Final Fantasy done as a Dragon's Dogma game, as something about the aesthetic of Dragon's Dogma just seems so fitting. But if you were to ask me what game felt most spiritually in-tune with that first Final Fantasy, Crimson Shroud would be it. I feel like I'm only just now playing Final Fantasy 2, the REAL Final Fantasy 2, for the first time.

The combat system is challenging, one might even say difficult, but it feels so engaging because of it. Enemies wipe away about 1/4th to 1/3rd of a character's health in a single blow. Your strategy not only has to play out to what enemies you are currently facing and who is at what condition, but chaining together a set of elements so as not to cancel any out or repeating any so that you can gain dice that can be used for small boosts to damage or accuracy.

So many novel concepts, so awesome, so wonderful.

Too bad the game does a bad job of helping you forward.

I read back and saw where Clocky got stuck in Chapter Two, so I managed to avoid that particular problem. I also happened to try equipping the item, and that made something magically happen. I wasn't expecting it at all, and the game won't tell you about it either. There's a lot the game doesn't tell you. Now I'm in Chapter...Three I believe? And I may be stuck. Should I go and explore previous areas? Or should I keep walking around here? I don't know.

But the game is a Hell of a lot of fun, and now I want to play D&D. Even though I think I left my dice bag in New Jersey.

Friendly reminder that Sakura Samurai is $4.99 this week. I haven't played it, but I've heard positive things about it. Complimentary comparisons to Punch-Out!! if that's your thing.

Anyone know if Luigi's Mansion will be getting a demo?

I hope so. That's the next release, right? If so, when?

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the next major release, 3/19. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is out 3/24.

There's been no mention of a demo. I'm buying the game, so I will post impressions once I've played for a bit. Unfortunately I'll be spread very thin around then. I'm buying both MH3U and Lego City Undercover for Wii U on 3/19, possibly renting Bioshock Infinite on 3/26.

I've ordered it on Amazon so it should be getting to me roughly release day (probably not until Monday 'cuz, y'know, it releases Sunday and all. Plus, I'll be at PAX East until Sunday night).

Amazon has delivered to me on a Sunday before.

I also pre-ordered Luigi's Mansion in hopes it shows up over the release weekend. I'll be at PAX but it would be nice to come home to a new game. I've heard nothing but positive buzz about it.

I saw a tweet this weekend confirming it'll be available for digital download. That's when I realized things like shipping dates and going to the store will soon be a thing of the past, and I don't need to use Amazon at all.

But I still will.

I'm really reticent to purchase anything downloadable on 3DS because with Nintendo's track record I can't imagine how hard it would be to get the games back if anything happened to the hardware. I bought Crimson Shroud, but that was 8 bucks. Tying a 40 dollar game to a single device is a bit more than I can handle.

Well, against my better judgement I picked up Castlevania. I really dislike this game. Especially now that I've gotten to play it more. I ended up putting Portrait of Ruin on hold at a local Gamestop. Lords of Shadow 2 releasing got me in the mood for Castlevania, just not this one.

I got this sweet decal for my new 3DS. I put mine the other way from the stock image below so it's right side up when open.
I presume it's one of those Pokemans that the kids are always talking about. I just liked the style.

That's awesome. Where did you find it? I've been wanting a decal for my Blue XL.

From here, I guess?

Sick decal. It's all about the XL with decals.

Yea, that's the one.

Yep, that would be Ninetales, from the original set of games.

While it might not mean anything for North America for awhile, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are being released on the eShop in Japan. I've heard those are good ones, but I've never had a chance to play them.

The Zelda series producer posted on Miiverse that they're planning to release these in North America before summer.

Fire Emblem Awakening on Hard/Classic has been consuming all my time, it finally got me to dust off my 3DS after many months. I think I spent about five hours trying to clear Chapter 5 without any casualties though, dear God the difficulty ramped up in all sorts of ways for that one.

Ketzal's Corridors is on sale this week for $4.99. It's a Mayan-themed expansion of the WiiWare game ThruSpace. Call it a spiritual successor.

Basically, you control a Tetris piece flying down a long corridor. In the corridor are walls with holes in them. Your job is to turn your piece in time so that it fits through the holes in the walls.

I wasn't that crazy about it, personally, but I know a fair number of reviewers really enjoyed it, and I've seen some positive comments on other websites. It just didn't click with me, but your mileage might vary.

I picked up Sakura Samurai recently. Its pretty good. I like its more simple design in its combat and I don't know why but when you dodge perfectly you can get in two slashes which is awesome.
