Arma 3 Catch All

Yeah they were the guys responsible for the updated Chernarus for DayZ standalone. From what I've heard in the media they were on vacation and just taking pics, it didn't actually have anything to do with Arma 3 despite being set in the Greek Islands. The statement that was made by their lawyer was "...makes it clear that the men were there as tourists, they did not enter military areas and did not photograph military equipment, although may have inadvertently shot video of buildings close to the international airport. They were not attempting to gather photo references for the game Arma 3."

I hope it clears up soon, I can only imagine how rough this is for their families.

Ya they're also responsible for a sizeable part of the upcoming DayZ standalone release.

Well, damn! Of course the Alpha for this game has to drop on the same day as SimCity and Tomb Raider!

Arma 3 Alpha available to those who pre-order on March 5th.

A chart outlining the different versions available.

If I'm reading that chart correctly, pre-ordering during the Alpha gives you a significant reduction in price.

Dammit. My wallet is hurting this Spring.

Nice - I love how they've reduced the price for early adopters. Since I plan on buying the game anyway, I might as well get it for the Alpha price.

Edit: This looks promising:

"Damn, Arma 3 is (comparatively) slick. Bohemia at full power, I think." Jim Rossingnol

Yeah I'll be purchasing on the 5th for sure. Excited to get my hands on the arma 3 editor.

Purchasing on the 5th but playing later

Definitely picking this up on the 5th as well. Can wait for the weapon attachments.

I'm in! Only for the cheapest one though.. mostly because I don't love the futuristic aspect.

Hopefully we can get a goodjer crew rolling. We tried to resurrect Arma 2 but failed.

Wow:

Downloading. $32.99 is an absolute steal for this game... early impressions are very positive.

I've played around with the editor and the scenarios a bit and the game feels really solid already. Performance-wise, if you can run Arma 2 with a decent frame rate, you can definitely run this.

I'm loving the improvements they've made to stances and movement; the new inventory is a step in the right direction, too.

The biggest disappointment for me is the AI. I've been playing Arma 2 with ASR AI and the TPW sight and suppression mod, and this is a step back from what those mods manage to improve. At the same time, this is still an alpha and, even if Bohemia doesn't make any improvements themselves to AI behaviour, modders surely will.

Sounds like the voice acting isn't terrible either!

A few points from my 40 min or so with the game.

-Radio commands are much improved.

-The movement system is basically what I've always wanted out of Arma and is very reminiscent of movement in Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Pistols don't feel totally useless to use.

-The Ragdoll deaths are 1000x better than those weird death animations where a body would go sliding away or sailing through the air from a tank round.

-The lighting engine is hugely improved over Arma 2. Night fighting is intense and the volumetric fog looks gorgeous.

-The various stances allow you to keep as much of your body hidden as you want, and it isn't cumbersome to use.

-Vehicles no longer do that weird slide thing on hills, and in fact feel very realistic.

-Helicopters feel extremely good, you can definitely tell the Take on Helicopters influence here.

I'm gonna spend some time in the editor, put together a few dynamic missions for 6 players or so so that we can thoroughly test this alpha out!

My god this thing is beautiful. If this is alpha.. I'm optimistic.

The guns have a great punch to them.

Make sure you throw a chopper insertion in.. I'm ready to fly!

Anyone else have a second monitor that goes dark when playing Arma 3? I usually keep my mission notes on the second monitor and this is making it tricky to get a mission done.

Have they addressed the mouse movement. It always felt leggy to me and really prevented me from playing (though I did participate in some gwj goodness)

Ill pick it up tonight if they did.

Edit. Just watched the video. Look like it is fixed. Awesome!

Yep, I had a bit of mouse lag with vsync on, but disabling that cured the lag. It's as responsive as any other FPS.

HOLY sh*t............

Just for you the mission is to steal a chopper, wreck the remaining choppers at the airfield before they scramble, and then head over to the radar station to secure it for Blue.

Basic mission is done, just need to remember how to do triggers and game logic and we'll be set

Sweet, I'm going to get the HOTAS and Track IR going.

I should be avail. later tomorrow eve. EST time.

Another vid. It's from Dslyexi, Chkilroy, and Beagle, all members of ShackTac, a clan/group that's been playing Arma for ages.

In case you don't know Dslyexi actually works for BIS as a video editor. That's not to say he's a corporate shill by any measure. His Youtube channel has plenty of examples of how he'd address Amra's limitations.

Yep, it's still Arma:

Ha!

I LOLed.

Bought and downloaded last night. Excited to try this out tonight or tomorrow.

For those interested, UPSMON - the urban patrol script - has been updated for Arma 3.

I kept trying to log on to various Wasteland servers, but could never get through. Anyone else have any luck? Also, are there any good SP scenarios out there yet?

I'm interested in this, but have never played ARMA before. Is there actually a "game" here at this point, or should I wait?

There are missions you can run by yourself or in multiplayer, but there isn't a campaign.
