Michigan Mini Slap&Tickle Thread

I'm supposed to call back in an hour to verify whether or not the game room is available... Earlier in the week they thought they were Warhammer events going on, 15 minutes ago different dude said he is pretty sure there are no events going on but told me to call back in an hour to make sure. I'll update again later.

Sounds like they have their stuff together...not like our current shop does but it has the benefit of being empty!

Does this place in Livonia have a working furnace?

haha - it does.

Let me know the full deets, Avram might come along again.

Okay, we are good to go. Here are the details:

RIW Hobbies
29116 5 Mile
Livonia, MI 48154

They're in a little shopping plaza on the north side of 5 Mile just east of Middlebelt.

Usual meeting time? Also, any idea how many we're expecting?

I'll be there, and I *should* be able to make it around 12:00 / 12:30

Fashionably late, as always for me. We need to get my wife's name changed at the Bank and Secretary of State. Some time in there we are going to Dunhams for an elliptical and some kettle bells. Considering my wang surgery, anyone want to help me move it before we hit the shop? Maybe someone living at 8 and Halsted road?

Jon Shafer lives closer to there than me.

Also, are you asking me to leave mid board game, come move some balls for you because of YOUR balls, and then go back to playing board games? Not sure I understand the logistics here.

Edit: There is a pizza place nearby that has perfect google ratings. That I've never been to or heard of. MUST TRY.

mostaccioli in a garlic bread bowl? Yeah, I'm in.

double post because mostaccioli garlic bread bowl

sounds loverly, and i've been bailed out from making food suggestions as other than my gym and the game store I know nothing around that area.

RIW Hobbies was a pretty cool spot. Lots of room/tables in their new space. TONS of board games in their selection (although stuff was about 20% more expensive than Amazon etc. which is to be expected). Woman who runs it seems pretty alright/protective. She got into a yelling match with a customer there while we were there because he said something bad about the store (although I think it was just a weird misunderstanding). That was a little odd. Ran into a couple of other people browsing games while we were there that had some advice on which games to try out next. The library of games to play for free was pretty substantial and included a lot I'd like to check out. Valentino's pizza ended up being pretty good and not a bad value either. It's pretty thin, so we could probably each have eaten a large each but larges with one topping were like 7.50...

For all three games we had myself, John, Domano, and Jow there:

Cosmic Encounter
First time playing for John and I, and the first time playing correctly for Domano! Jow was Feeble(?), John was Warriors, I was Gamblers, and Domano was Humans. It ended up being a really close game, with John and Jow winning together due to a hasty alliance as the game ran down. I came in third with 4, and Domano had 3 after having nearly all of his ships put into the warp after challenging one of my truthful bluffs. Really fun and dynamic game. I can see how this has stood the test of time and is one of the classics. Jow bought an expansion so we'll definitely be playing again sometime, and possibly using the attack cards, which we did not use for this first playthrough.

Quarriors
It was everyone but Jow's first time playing this one (loaner from their library). Fun dice/deck builder a la Dominion etc. The first game Jow slaughtered us with his early green spell strat (can't remember what it was) and then the second game John got an early dragon and that was that (even though he and Jow eventually had two dragons to Domano and my zero). It seems like dragon is just completely broken and uncounterable (Jow said there are counters, but they just weren't in our random selection). That was kind of a bummer. I scored zero points in the first game and a measly one in the second game, but it was still a pretty neat game in my eyes. I like King of Tokyo a tad better, though.

What does everyone think of the 23rd at this new place?

Cosmic: it might as well have been Feeble - it was actually Fodder and I never used my ability once. It allowed me to play additional attack cards out of my hand during the reveal stage if those cards had numbers higher than the attack card I played for the encounter and lower than the attack card played by my opponent. I actually had the cards for it one time, but Chris's damn plague made me ditch a bunch of cards from my hand, including the 00 I was slating to use to trigger my power.

Quarriors: I've done a bit of reading on BGG since we've played - consensus is that the version of the dragon we had in play is pretty rough and with nothing in the rest of the deck that could deal with him, I probably should have pulled him and replaced him with something else. Lesson learned.

23rd should be good for me unless I go out of town and I'll confirm closer to the date.

You weren't too happy about that Plague. Can't believe John took you along for the victory. He could have easily done it without you at any point (even when you proposed).

Yeah, I should be good on the 23rd, provided I'm not forgetting some sort of baby thing. I really dig that place, even if that Warhammer crew decided to squat there and start some static with the owner. I don't what it is about that game, but it tends to bring out some of the most obnoxious personalities. And I own a Wood Elf & Necron army, so I'm actually part of that scene.

Dude, those guys were something else. I was just thinking. Hope I'm not like this when I am 40.

if i recall correctly he didn't have the 40 when i proposed it and yeah, he could have left me hanging but he did not.

No no, we switched from talking about John using the 40 in Cosmic Encounter to the 40+ year old guys setting up their Warhammer armies.

naw, i know. i amusingly had that post typed up like 5 posts earlier and forgot to send and I was referring to the 40 attack card john played to win that game of CE.

...Which was total bullsh*t. Only becuase I completely disregarded my ability to zap myself and thus win the encounter. That always seems to be my weakness during the end game of any board game we play. I concentrate too hard on one tactic without realizing it's actual impact.

haha, yeah, i was wondering about that. You had Chris hooked up right and proper and forgot da zap!

I can't make the 23rd, but I won't stop y'all from getting together. The 30th would work for me if we want to get together then.

I was just reminded by the wife that the baby shower the weekend of the 23rd (I thought it was the weekend after), so I won't be able to make it either.

hey, no sweat. I'll just play a couple hours of Apache Attack Chopper MCMCMVXXII.

30th it is, then, chaps?

Yep, foine by me.

Yeah, 30th works.

Sure, what evs.

Looks like I'm out Mar 30 - will be out of town. Have fun y'all.
