Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Another thing to keep in mind is that the TP has a buy order function built in. I know of one GWJer who targets just a few commonly traded items and when he sees the right market conditions will place limited buy orders for around a gold total investment, he immediately turns around and places a sell order on the same items at a price that will net him a small but reliably profit. He will do the above steps while someone AFKs during a dungeon run and routinely turns 1 gold into 1.5 over the course of our run.

So, is anyone else occasionally bewildered by the Gold/Silver/Bronze ranking they get when they participate in events? I'm not really complaining about it, just commenting, but occasionally I can't help but wonder.

Tonight I was exploring Diessa Plateau while doing dailies and leveling up my engineer. There was an event to capture two areas- upper and lower. I get there and one other player is there. He goes to the upper area, while I kill a few guys and stand in the lower area to cap it. It caps very slowly, and I kill a few stragglers that spawn while I wait. Then I go to the upper area. The player up there is still fighting foes. I help clear them out, and we stand and cap the upper area. Event successful- and I get a Silver Medal!?!? Huh? Clearing and capping both areas wasn't enough?

Later, an event to protect workers as they repair a bridge. Progress has barely started. I'm the only one there. I res workers and fight foes as they appear on my side of the bridge until repairs finish. No one was helping the other side. When the event finishes, again I get a Silver Medal!?!? Again- Huh?

Then... just after getting that silver medal, a Gold Medal pops up! For an event for helping return cows to a ranch. The number of cows I helped return? Zero. I did some fighting in that zone while getting that area's Heart, Skillpoint and Vista- but never once bothered to help a single cow.

I get the impression it has something to do with your relative number of kills in the area of the event. If I get silver it's if I get to an event late - I assume because other players kill more mobs than I do. Conversely I sometimes get gold on gather or herding quests like you describe without doing any herding or gathering - just killing mobs. Heck, sometimes I don't even recognise the events they give me medals for

Heh, I wonder if the person who chose to herd all 6 cows home got a silver or bronze because of all the kills I got when I was in that area.

Nope, its not competitive. There isn't only one gold winner.. etc. You just meet certain criteria for each rank and get that tier. Has nothing to do with what other people are doing.

I think my favorite classes are the ranger and the warrior. I like the ranger because you have like a right hand man or fighter. I like the warrior because its sort if like the guardian (non-skill wise).

The other thing about events is that they can succeed and fail, but you get contribution rewards whichever way it goes.

Say Hi to my boy. He just signed up for the forums and bought his own GW2 account. He is a very mature and respectful kiddo.

Welcome aboard!

Hello and welcome!

Welcome E-Man. I'm new to Guild Wars as well and I'm enjoying the ranger too.

I popped in for some PvP last night and was fortunate enough to be paired with a group that went five for five before I could figure out how to leave

Am I right that your PvP identity is distinct from your leveling up toon? The rewards don't cross pollinate?

That is correct.

There are also some skills that have their own pvp version and might not work the way you are used to in pve.

Welcome E-Man! Good pick with the ranger, I really like mine too!

So... I'm kinda neglecting the Pile in favor of GW2. Looks like my one track mind decided to level my main and finish the story and/or 100% the world. Finally joined the Priory, reached level 59 and am at 42% world completion. Still loving it.

Edit: Patch is out now.

I checked in with the heralds, who reported that there was Dredge and Flame Legion activity in Diessa Plateau and Wayfarer Foothills, so I went there for my Daily. Didn't see any Dredge or Flame Legion, though, although that was before the patch hit.

Seems like a nice pile of fixes in the patch. Some have been a long time coming.

Normally the game updates automatically when I run the launcher. At the moment it's just saying "Connection errors detected" so I imagine too many people are trying to download.

Thanks for the heads up. Do the patches automagically get downloaded when there is an update or do you have to do something proactively? I ask because I fired up the client and while it's not showing the login fields it appears to just be sitting there. (Mac OS)

Never mind. I was just impatient apparently.

Yep interesting set of updates and fixes for just about everyone but rangers.

Sorry about the double post but I'd like to direct your attention to the guild organization thread for what's happening with the bounties and new guild upgrades.

Nice that they added a preview option for auction house now.

Noticed a new structure on the wayfarer side of the wayfarer/diessa portal, looks like some type of over-sized corral.

Amazon.com had this for $30, so I'm in. Northern Shiverpeaks, right?

My impression was a really sturdy set of gates. Wonder if in the next update they open to a new place to go?

Ya it's gates but if you go up the neighbouring mountain you can see there's another gate facing the diessa side and between the gates it looks like some empty holding space of some sort

I played a ton of Guild Wars but haven't touched it in years, so I'll have to see if I can't find that account again. Any benefits to having played Guild Wars 1? IIRC they had this Hall of Somethingerother with whatchamacallits and whatnot. I never really bothered with it.

There is the Hall of Monuments.

If you never bothered with it it might not matter. But if you link your gw2 account to your gw1 account you might get 1-2 rewards incidentally. The other use would have been using any of your gw1 character names... They were reserved for a while so you could have them for gw2, but the reserve period is long since expired.

I linked my GW1 and GW2 accounts, and all I got was the heritage armor. But then again, I only did 98% of Prophecies (got stuck at Ring of Fire), 5% of Factions and 50% of Nightfall campaigns. EotN I only bought and barely played at all. And yet I spent over 250 hours on GW1 according to Steam. So yeah, if you've made progress with GW1, even completed chunks of the contents, you'll get a bunch of rewards.

Big thanks go to Elycion and Deepsea for helping me out with the story last night!!! And to Oldgoat for putting up with me as I wander the countryside and explore! You guys are the best.
