Oh, so they're fixing the only problem the game has and making it perfect....

cool.

Yep. It's exactly what I want. Although no word on the whole tigers and bears not fighting when they meet debacle.

I actually spent some time luring a bear into range of a crocodile and it didn't attack. Although you could argue that the croc was just demonstrating superior A.I.

Yeah, pretty sweet. I'll totally set 'em all back to hostile and reconquer the entire island as a buffed up endgame supersoldier. Taking down those first couple of outposts with, like, four guys in 'em will be hilarious when I do it from a mile away with my signature sniper rifle.

I find it kind of funny that they are patching in the thing that everybody wanted patched out of Far Cry 2.

Bwahahaha.

It's the option to reset it to hostile when the game is completed but we're souped up.

Great.

If it always respawned like FC2 while trying to get around the island to objectives constantly in a useless feeling campaign without world changes to match our actions well then it woulda sucked.

Dunno what planet yer from, but this aint like you said it.

Fuzzballx wrote:

I dunno, it seems close enough to me.

I kind of wished they would turn holding outposts into a mini game. Where you have to pay money to setup defenses, and try to hold outposts while the enemy tries to take it back until you take over every one. (then you reset and do it again).

I think I'm breaking down, I've been watching a guy from Britain called Nerd Cubed do a Permadeath series where he's play the game from as soon as the game lets you freeroam and is trying to take over every outpost and do every radio tower. It's quite an entertaining series that has around episode 10 and 11 started to get a bit sillier as he seems to slowly be losing his mind, something that just happens naturally when this guy plays games.

Overall his series is slowly but surely selling me the game, and so is the level design tools but those are more because the ability to create single player missions easily.

I love that series. I had an earlier post talking about it and I wanted to try to get something like that together with the GWJ community and try to make a competition out of it, but I didn't get any interest. Looks like an incredibly intense and fun way to play the game.

Just tried the co-op. It's got a 'Left 4 Dead with guns' vide. Well, I guess Left 4 Dead had guns... A 'Left 4 Dead but zombies have guns... only they're not zombies they're pirates who colour co-ordinate' vide.

Anyway I like it. If anyone wants to try it on 360 send me an invite. There's juicy achievements to be had ;).

What I tried of the coop on ps3 seemed decent, but my pal and I are using stock Sony headsets and the voice is busted even though it worked fine in ghost recon fs (another ubi product). You'd THINK they'd want to reuse code etc. so if it works fine in one game it's be fine in every other one, but I guess not

I had an interesting experience last night. We cleared out an open area and then ran into a bunker system. I noticed there was one guy left but the rest of my team were off and running so I caught up. In the bunker I found I was being hit in the back but there were no visible enemies behind me. Even with concrete between me and the geometry defying shots I was still getting hit. When I died my team mates ran around like they didn't know I where I was. When they finally rezzed me I was back in the outside area.

We ran into the bunker again and out the other end. Suddenly I was being hit in the back again but weak hits and when I shot an enemy a few feet from me I was getting long range kill notifications. I think the game had my position set as being in that first area even though I was elsewhere. It reset at the next check point.

Edit: There are some very young kids playing co-op. In one session a player was run over by a jeep and the voice of a tiny child laughed and said, "Ouch!"

In another game, just before I muted him, one kid was calling to his Mum and then shouting, "Bang! Bang!" over the mike.

I've started a new game after finishing the story -_-. I'm knocking the difficulty up to hard (I should have done that from the start) and I'm going to get as far as I can with just a silenced pistol and the bow (and the various explosives that I won't increase the capacity for.) I hope it'll give me that feeling of being under prepared and facing impossible odds. I'll have to be a lot more cautious and will be forced to do more stealth (I was getting good at it by the end of the game.) I may also have to flee from bears. I think I'll unlock three weapon slots and have a repair tool in one. That way I could allow myself to scavenge a third weapon on missions that I'd have to throw away after the mission is over.

I really miss the vehicles chasing you. In FC2 the buggers would be hot on your tail. I realise people found it annoying but for me it forced on the fly tactics and I had some great battles on the roads.

I do like the glorious Scottish accent and comments from the Scots guy in co-op. He uses a word (beginning with c) that I never want to hear generally but that accent makes anything sound lyrical.

Me too! I'm going with a no fast travel rule and trying real hard not to die. I would say I was going for a hardcore, permadeath thing... then I died the last time I played after fleeing in a Jeep, getting chased by some ruffians, and making a poor jump choice over a broken bridge that made my Jeep stuck in rocks, then getting two more Jeeps of bad guys arrive from the front and pretty much annihilating me :(. So, I died. And I don't want to start all over again so I'll just try really hard not to die, pinkie-promise :).

I'm not limiting weapons or anything. I'm a glutton but not that much of a glutton.

Yeah I'll see how long I last with the weapons thing :). I may have the third weapon allowed all the time but it can only be a scavenged weapon rather than one from the shop.

I'm going to try turning off tagging. In FC2 I liked being in fights were I didn't know which corner the next bad guy was going to come from.

Damn, you are a glutton. I didn't even know you could turn it off. I guess it does take a fair amount of suspension of disbelief to allow tagging. I admit, I use it as a considerable crutch in all aspects. Alright, I'll join you in that one. No tagging! I'm so entirely going to get shot in the balls.

Hehe. We'll have to post the inevitable horror stories.

Higgledy wrote:

Deal! Should be entertaining. I'm pretty impressed, actually. The Halo games are the only ones I've really ever played at multiple difficulty levels after finishing. That I want to get back, clear the map and start over in this game is quite a testament.

Yes! Sounds awesome. I'm going to start a new game with these rules directly.

Ok. My rules so far:

1. Set on Hard (warrior?)
2. Bow and silenced pistol only
3. Grenades, molotovs, etc ok but no capacity upgrades
4. Upgrade wallet, lootsack, syringe pack to hearts content
5. Three health bars
6. No tagging

All of the above may be revised

In an hour last night I had about five memorable experiences. Here are a couple:

I entered the game in goat territory with the sniper rifle (one weapon slot at this stage) so rather than head back to the village I decided to hunt with the rifle for a while. It felt like real hunting as I trailed the goats, picking them off one at a time. After I killed three I found a cave and headed in. Having explored it thoroughly I returned to the cave entrance only to hear deep menacing growling ahead of me. 'I'll just wait here and see if they go away,' I thought. The growling continued. Looking at the open area of grass ahead of me more closely I suddenly noticed a wild dog standing stock still staring at me. I then noticed two more behind it. Scoping in quickly I shot the first dog. The second ran straight at me. I flailed wildly with my knife and killed it. The third dog ran off. Now when I hear or see packs of dogs I head the other way.

I attacked two squads from crashed jeeps, thinking my grenades would kill them all, and ended up in a fighting retreat through the jungle hitting some guys with arrows and doing take downs on others. I won't detail the whole thing but it was just the kind of cat and mouse combat I love.

Having run out of arrows I had to shoot a pig with my non silenced pistol (I'm saving up for a silencer.) Immediately two pirates honed in on me with more shouting in the distance. Not wanting to get into a protracted fight I ducked into some tropical undergrowth. In amongst some plants with big glossy leaves I stared out through the angled gaps between stems. As the two pirates walked down the road in front of me two more appeared at my rear walking straight at me. As the two behind closed in they split and one walked past on my right. White detection bars flickered all around me. The guy on my left was so close I could have reached out and touched him on the knee. Suddenly his detection bar filled out and all four guys knew where I was. I shot the closest guy with an arrow (I panicked) and then ran at the two on the road firing my pistol like a mad man. With them dead I looked for the last guy. He was behind a tree. I closed in, keeping the tree between us, then looped around and took him out with my knife.

I think we may be onto something here.

It's a huge contrast with my first play through. Admittedly, in that run, I first did all the crafting and nearly all the towers so I was well kited out from the start.

Taking your first base with no tagging is exciting :).

Edit: I've let myself have a third scavenged weapon. I.e. it can be anything I pick up off the battlefield. I know I'm in trouble ammo wise when I'm reduced to lobbing bricks of C4 at people.

With low health and no tagging the tension when sneaking into hostile areas is great. I'm also becoming a takedown master

Started up Far Cry 3 this weekend after wanting to for so long. Immediately sought out all the hunting to craft top of the line gear... almost maxed out everything now. I also have all the guns I want that are available to purchase... now to finish the questline... I'm about a fifth of the way in according to IGN's quest list.

I keep running into tigers and I don't want or need to kill them at this point except to keep them from killing me. This is a pain, I haven't tried the repellant syringe yet... does it work for this type of thing or is it just for boars and buffalo?

One really fun mission so far...
Had to take out a camp of baddies without alerting them... which actually was more fun than I thought it would be... then had to blow up the weapons cache... got a 15sec timer so I run out of the building into an oncoming fleet of enemies... thunderstorm hits... I turn right and bolt to the river hoping the water will slow them down... 3..2..1.. I jump off the dock...WHAM crocodile hits me midair... I was so shocked I missed the QTE and died... but the timer must have finished while I was being eaten because I got the quest complete and respawned on the dock.

It works for anything not in the water, I think; definitely works for tigers. Makes most of the hunting sidemissions trivial since not only are the yellow flowers are so plentiful, it also doesn't actually make things run away, it just makes it so they don't attack you.

Will be making batches of the stuff when I get home. lol I didn't want to make them all run away or I would have tried it already.

Any advice for someone new to the series? Anything I need to know from past games?

manta173 wrote:

Other than some basic gameplay mechanics none of the games are related to each other. Completely different people, completely different stories.

-edit-
Oh, and if you enjoy 3, go back and play 2. Much better story and the story missions are more open.

Cloud saves are what screwed me. I started game and Uplay overwrote my saved games with older saves. If you are loading a save and being taken back to some point in the past(just after the plantation maybe?) you can try this:

First I turned off cloud saves, Second I right clicked on the folder with the local saved games, selected properties, then went to the previous versions tab(this is win7 by the way), I found a version of the folder with my most recent game and copied it to the desktop(I wanna say it was two files), then I deleted everything in the local saved games folder, copied the save from my desktop into it, started the game and was good to go.

I have not turned cloud saving back on and deleting all the other saved files in the saves folder was the key to this working for me. Good luck!

I had a delightful experience in my "glutton for punishment" run-through. I was scoping out a base (aside: can no longer use the camera because I can't find a way to turn off enemy tagging through the camera. Gah!) from all perspectives and heard a growl from nearby. "F*ck!" said I. Turned around and a tiger was stalking nearby. He hadn't noticed me yet but was sauntering straight toward my hidey-hole. I quickly tossed a rock to my left which caught the tiger's attention and deflected his path. "Hmm," thought I, "I wonder if I can lure him into the camp." So I started lobbing rocks down toward the camp. Got him to a break in the fence where he saw a hapless henchman, starting a terror spree that ended up taking out most of the camp. During the tumult I sniped two guys with some well-placed arrows and liberated the camp. Tiger's take was seven henchman, leaving me with quite literally two arrows spent total.

Yeah the camera still tags. I guess it could be handy if a hunting mission got really annoying without tagging :).

My first venture into a base with the no tagging rule was unsettling. After sneaking in I looked around but couldn't see anybody. No one on the high decks, no one patrolling and no stationary guards. Fortunately, before I got too freaked, one patrolling guy appeared. After dispatching him with an arrow to the head I climbed onto a high deck and killed another guy, who had been on the far side from me. From there I spotted and took out the rest.

My meagre weapon selection has put me in some 'out of the frying pan into the fire' moments. The funniest happened while I was hunting deer with a bow. To my right there was a cliff with a river at the bottom, to the left was a line of dense trees. The deer were skittish so I suspected a predator might be about. Suddenly a bear attacked me from behind. Not wanting to fight him with the weapons I had I leapt off the cliff. My satisfaction at such a swift escape was quickly squashed when I landed on a crocodile in the water below. It proceeded to try to eat me as I chuckled to myself.

Leaving quite a few bases untaken as I explore and look for Relics is also working well. I'm having many more random encounters with pirates.

I've somehow lost my save and even though I used the game save backup application and cloud saves as well.

Darn it.

Edit: I tried everything and screwed up the game. Re installed everything and then the game now recognizes my save. So strange.
