JRPG Catch-All

I haven't played any of the Atelier games, so I won't be much help, but have you tried the Rune Factory series? They're literally Harvest Moon plus dungeon grind (same developer) and are wonderful.

Let's ignore that trailer and focus on Disgaea D2.

Laharl’s sister shows up and Laharl… turns into a girl?

Uh...

Let me second this. I have never been able to get back to harvest moon after run factory. It's got everything harvest moon has plus dungeon crawling and a fairly good crafting system. The only strange thing is after a certain point you can basically forget the farming mostly. Great series of games.

The special edition of Last Story isn't bad. I wasn't terribly impressed with the music CD, it was short and while I really liked the theme or title song, the rest were a bit more meh. The art book was nice, and the packaging nice as well. I'd say it's worth it at $40. Of course, I haven't put more than 5 hours into the game, so THAT part I can't talk about too much....

I thought that I got the special edition, but I don't think mine came with a music CD unless it was hidden somewhere in the packaging... I have the art book.

Overworld exploration in Shin Megami Tensei IV:

I really like the look of some of those environments.

Oooooo, yeah--I likey!

Also, I freaking want that costume shown at :20 for the whole game.

Looks like a more interesting version .hack's dungeon and overworld.

I hope that's not the final music. I really dug the random J-pop stuff from the first games.

The Super Famicom games?

But seriously, it should be noted that Persona (which I assume you're talking about) is an off-shoot of Shin Megami Tensei. You shouldn't look at SMT IV like it'll be a sequel to P4. Also, the music for SMT IV is being primarily composed by someone else (Ryoto Kozuka vs. Shoji Meguro).

Was there J-pop in Nocturne? That one was a proper SMT (3).

Nope, not a bit as far as I can tell (never did finish that one, ought to go back to it...).

Yeah, my mistake, I was thinking it was a Persona sequel, not a SMT sequel.

Closing in on Etrian Odyssey IV time.

As usual, I'm getting pulled in about 300 different directions on party. My usual strategy is to have access to as many buffs/deubffs/etc. as humanly possible (which would be Moonlander/Fortress; Sniper/Nightseeker/Medic to start, swapping in a Mystic later when they become available)... but I always feel tempted to try raw damage too, even though I never do. Maybe I will this time though.. they actually threw the higher damage classes (Moonlander, Runecaster) some decent utility/support stuff too this time so that they aren't entirely mono-directional.

So many choices...

Although the Highschool Angel Harem genre is eye-roll worthy, I don't expect most people play NIS games for the deep narrative:)

ZHP had a really fun narrative. This looks like the same game, but I'm not too optimistic about what they changed.

Oops, forgot to explain what it is. It is in fact the spiritual successor to ZHP, which I'm excited for. ZHP didn't quite work, but I liked what they tried. I also have an absurd love of roguelikes.

How so? I only put in a handful of hours.

I liked the roguelike elements. What I didn't like was the absurd amount of talking. Too much. Let me play.

Things took a tad too long to unlock also. All the systems weren't in play for quite a few hours. That was a bummer. But I liked all the systems, they could use some refining. If you don't lilke Mystery Dungeon-like roguelikes then ZHP will probably never work.

Never played any of them. Might check that out.

EO4 week! Yay!

Atelier Totori Plus (Vita) is getting localized courtesy of Tecmo Koei. At least, it's been rated in Australia in an English-language version. Nothing announced officially yet.

I put the demos for Fire Emblem and EO IV on my fiance's 3DS and she tried them over the weekend.

In FE, she pretty much immediately noted that "it looks like the characters' feet are stuck in the ground", so, yeah. Once she got the game however, despite an early hiccup (I think she dismissed a tutorial screen without realizing) she really dug it, especially after discovering the team up attacks. She played on casual, and it didn't sound like she had much interest in classic.

EO IV, on the other hand, completely failed to grab her. I did suggest she at least get into the first dungeon to see the meat of the game, but stuff before that so thoroughly bored her, that I don't think she even got that far.

I'm going to pick up a copy of EO IV tomorrow, and since I found out that FE has 3 save slots, we decided to get one copy to share as well.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMix NA localization confirmed for this Fall

Still no news about Bravely Default :(

well that's my fall

More importantly, we are getting the Final Mix version of KH1 for the first time in English. Hopefully since they're releasing it along with Re:Chain, it's going to have the feature intact where each game picks up save information from the other to unlock things.

I played KH1:FM in Japanese with a rudimentary translation guide so I'm going to be happy to play it in English.

I thought Re:Chain and KH2 were the ones with the save interoperability?

Uh, yes. I am a dumb.

Woot!

Been wanting to get my hands on an Atelier game, but haven't been willing to fork over the money for one. Totori was the closest to what I'd like to play, so I'm glad it might be getting localized.

So for those of you who love the obscure stuff, NIS released a mouthful of a game a few years ago (the 3rd in a series) called Ar tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel. It was super rare and selling for like $70 used. Well, NIS either realized this or someone found a hidden stash, because it's prime eligible at Amazon right now for a mere $30 new.

My loss is your gain. You're welcome.

FTFY...Since the game is based around girls getting their powers based on how much skin they show during combat.

I also may or may not own the game.
