Halo 4 - Catch All

It has a really good, but somewhat frustrating, space ship part near the end. I have said it before but I would love to see either Bungie or 343 build a space ship game.

Rogue Squadron in the Halo universe? Hell yes.

That is what the Halo 4 ship part reminds me of. Well the last part, the first part reminded me of Star Fox.

It's been 7 years since a good Star Fox game, 10 since the last Rogue Squadron game. Not much has been said about Destiny's space portion but one can hope fore some more arcade space combat. Bring it on Bungie.

Yea I don't get why studios/publishers are so unwilling to leverage their IPs to make games in different genres. A Halo or Mass Effect 2D shoot 'em up or even 3D space sim makes tons of sense to me. At least as long as they do a decent job of it (i.e. not make it as terrible as Star Fox Adventures was). I guess they sort of tried to branch out with Halo Wars but it was a pretty mediocre RTS in the end.

Well, Halo Wars sort of did that, but I think its sales weren't up to expectations. Then there was Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which isn't a horrible game, but got enough of a bad rap because it was a shooter.

Huh. Maybe I'll finish it, then. I'm just not, overall, feeling it. I popped in Halo Reach the other day to compare and I much preferred what I played of that.

Other than constantly having to search for ammo/weapons (no idea why that is such a popular thing in games lately) I really enjoyed it. Reach was great as well though.

I was a huge halo fan along with my buddy but we are both getting fatigue over the franchise. We still play Reach to just to have a bro call and catch up on each other lives. We still enjoy big team games because the casual but choatic feel to it.

I was thinking about grabbing halo 4 at target because its on sale and I have a gift card. I wanted to make sure it had everything I needed from a halo game. I was very disappointed to find out that big team playlist was replace by big team slayer. All the objective base playlists go to 5v5. That is a huge deal breaker for me. I play halo series for the "omg that was hilarious" moments that big team objective usually encourage, not for the kill counts.

Hopefully this can change, but I'm out until 8v8 big team objectives is back on the list. Reach has it, so I'm staying there.

Guess I am glad that I never really got into Reach, because Halo 4 has completely revitalized the franchise for me. I always look forward to the challenges now, and regularly beat a campaign mission or two a week.

I can't speak to specific game types, but so far all the Halo 4 complaints have washed right over me because of all the fun I'm having. I'm bummed that more people are not feeling the same way.

I'm not sure how I totally missed this thread until now o.0

I played through SP with a buddy on Legendary back at launch, but haven't been keeping up on SpartanOps. Just played through Ep6 this past weekend, and the roommate keeps pushing me to do the rest as soon as possible so he has someone to talk to about it.

PAR has a write-up on what they feel were the hits and misses of Spartan Ops, and I'm not 100% in agreement on their take.

I do wish that Spartan Ops was a little more "generic". One of my favorite things about Reach was Firefight. I'd pop into 2x Arcade mode, and spend an hour just destroying Covvies in the most outrageous methods I could find. I could play Firefight levels over and over again, but I really see no draw to playing Spartan Ops missions for a second time. The challenges aren't a draw for me, so I'm not going to grind out killing 50 Watchers or 100 Grunts.

Meanwhile, the roommate has maxed out his SR after "only" 9 days of play time, across a lot of multiplayer and the daily/weekly challenges. This is the same kid who played Reach for a solid 2 years (36 days 16 hours of playtime o.0) and peaked out at Forerunner. I don't get why he keeps playing Halo 4, but he does.

Firefight was my favorite way to play in ODST. Some friends and I sat for four hours one day and got to nearly 1 million points on just one location. And then we died many ridiculous deaths. But that is probably the best time I've ever had and the best I've ever played. Just us and the AI.

I liked the breath Reach gave to Firefight, but at the same time, I still went and still go back to play some ODST firefight.

While Spartan Ops is nice, I'm not really a fan of the move to this location, fight, move again. I liked having to remain hunkered down for wave after wave and search for ammo or desperately kill an enemy just to bring back my friends. I enjoyed the way the skulls changed so that you were given more of a challenge. So while I am playing through the episodes of Spartan Ops, it's certainly not my favorite way to play.

I kept hoping they would release the ODST Firefight maps for Reach. Hell if they were to release anymore Firefight maps for Reach my friends and I would buy them in a second. If the ODST match settings were as configurable as the Reach ones are we would play that but we really like customizing the match to maximize fun for everyone.

Yeah, I feel like Reach is a much more refined version of Firefight. Plus, Elites are much more entertaining to fight than Brutes.

I would take Reach Elites over Halo 4 Knights all day.

McIrishJihad wrote:

Amen to that.

Elites > Brutes > Knights

Yeah, warping enemies just aren't that interesting to me. Elites have to be one of my favorite enemy types in any shooter so I'm pretty excited to see what the enemies are like in Destiny.

Brutes are like 2-3 shots to the head area, and then they're down. Elites just have the right balance, and at least their shields can be taken down with UNSC weapons.

While I've always "known" about the OC plasma pistol + magnum for Elites, it'd still keep with a battle rifle or DMR to take them out. Cut to Knights, where the only consistent method I have for taking them down is heavy weapons, or plasma + magnum/DMR/battle rifle.

My 360 has come back from the land of the dead and is working again. Anyone up for some Spartan co-op tomorrow? The wife works a rare Saturday tomorrow and while she will no doubt give me some silly honey-do list, she knows the likelihood of that happening. Anyone?

I think someone else posted the secret to each enemy type higher up in the thread and it is what I have always done:

Human Weapons -> Flood.
Covenant Weapons -> Covenant.
Promethean Weapons -> Prometheans.

A light rifle or even a suppressor will cut knights down to size. Also the Storm Rifle isn't bad against them.

Heck yeah, I need to catch up on the last couple episodes anyways. Friend request sent.

I seem to recall reading that human weapons are better against unshielded Covenant. Not sure if that's true or not.

Headshots = dead shots

Either way once you have taken care of their shields they are marshmallows.

Played some coop with Mr_Noob and while I totally sucked, it was a blast. He was having some real lag problems, so we'll try it again soon. All in all, it was a fun time as it was my first coop experience.

That's the thing, except for the Grunts and Hunters you're going to frequently take on Elites and Jackals. Bullets mostly just bounce off of a Jackal's shield while a plasma rifle will knock it around and then burst it away, and plasma weapons are ultimately more effective against an Elite's shields.

Though usually a common weapon pairing for me was pistol and needler in the first one. Needler for Elites, pistol for all other Covenant (as long as you can hit that notch in the Jackal's shield...or just frag grenade 'em).

We started calling the 1-2 punch of hitting a Jackal's notch and then going for a headshot the "Northern Cross". Not entirely sure why...

I've got this via rent-by-mail. I'm looking to get together a group to play some co-op (preferably on legendary). Any takers?

Tomorrow night (Thursday) I should be free. Gamertag is ccesarano.
