Things you should know by now, but only just discovered

Lion and tiger skeletons are virtually indistinguishable.

What about bear skeletons?

I think sheep and goats are the same too, if I'm remembering archaeology classes right.

Newman's own Lime Salad dressing. A friend brought it over to a little dinner party on Sunday. It went very well with the chimichuri pork chops I made. I am presently marinating some drum sticks in it.

As a salad dressing, it goes well if you are serving a chilled salad with some Caribbean or Latin inspired foods.

Oooh, come back with a marinade report after you make them.

How are you planning on cooking said marinaded drum sticks? I like to do grilled chicken marinaded in Italian dressing (Wishbone).

Cast iron griddle in the broiler. I am in an apartment. I am looking at a Zojirushi grill as my next purchase, because cooking with the oven too much is killer on my electric bill.

Do we have a cooking thread? This conversation is making me hungry.

Yup!

The flavor was great, but could benefit from overnight marination. It all depends on your preference for marinades. With white meats, I like a stronger flavor.

It was a hint of lime after 2 hours in the fridge marinading. It tasted a lot like if you squeeze a little lime onto the grill just before serving.

Twiglets don't taste very nice (with apologies to those who like 'em.)

We have a container of Twiglets left over from Christmas in the kitchen. Every so often I'll see them, realise I fancy a snack and take a handful. I know I don't like them but in that moment I think, how bad can they actually be? Maybe I'll grow to like them. I'll eat a few and realise all over again they aren't nice and they're never going to be a good snack. This must have happened five or six times since Christmas.

First I'm asking "wtf is a twiglet?", so then I went to Google.

Sounds like they're "pretzel sticks" that have been covered in a yeast coating similar to Marmite. Which is a totally acceptable reason for not liking something.

See, and I like Marmite, but twiglets are f'n disgusting.

Now, I don't mind Twiglets. Not my snack of choice, but if they're there, I will eat them.

I will eat all of your Twiglets. Send them to me.

Are they made of little branches? It sounds like they should be made of little branches.

Is a piglet a twiglet + bacon?

A television advertisement came on during a hockey game I was watching that showed a map of a strange, completely unfamiliar country. The contours were unlike anything I had ever seen before. Suddenly I realised that I was watching the Canadian stream, and it was a map of Canada devoid of all the awesomeness that exists south of its border. It looks very odd. So thank you to Home Owners (the name of the business doing the advertising) for educating me as to what a naked Canada looks like.

Coldstream has seen Canada without it's pants on. Can't go back from that.

Hm, good point.

While reading this, I immediately thought of Lewis Black's candy corn bit. Skip to 1:55.

They're little branches covered in marmite. Occasionally you get a tiny pine cone covered in marmite. It's a bi-product of the logging industry.

It's interesting how many English speaking countries have a more rugged neighbour with way fewer people and way more trees. America has Canada, England has Scotland (although Scotland is technically part of the UK :P) and Australia has New Zealand.

It really does look like a hat.
