DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

This is not the stand alone version.

taken from the Steam page

"Arma 2: DayZ mod" requires ownership of Arma II and Arma II: Operation Arrowhead. You must first launch ARMA II and ARMA II Operation Arrowhead before running "Arma 2: DayZ mod" for the first time.

I bolded the important bits...

The install scared me back when this first hit the scene. Perhaps I should try it now.

To be honest, the install has been pretty harmless for a while thanks to DayZCommander. I am assuming that this steam mod method won't allow any of the unofficial maps or game types, but will no doubt still have the hacking issues.

Not sure I'm going to attempt it in case it messes up the DayZCommander installed files. Interested to see if there's anything new about this steam version though..

I have ARMA II through Steam, do you think I should still just go ahead and use DayZCommander?

Well, I'd say that entirely depends on whether you are interested in the unofficial maps/game modes. If not, and you want straight up, as-it-was-meant-to-be DayZ, then I'd maybe just go with the steam mod. I can't vouch for it fully as I haven't tried it, but the only issue I have with days commander is keeping the arma2beta version and days version up to date. Not that its difficult, just a click of a button, but its pretty regular. I also use the friends system in commander, although its fairly basic - search for your friends days name and it will show all players with that name on the servers in your list, easier when friends have more unique a days name than 'David', or the classic 'administrator'.

I wonder if the steam mod version would make that easier to play with steam friends. Strangely, out of the 5 or so people that I regularly game with, only I launch dayz through steam, everyone else, who purchased on steam, just run the game natively through commander. Maybe this steam mod would help them too.

So, to answer your question, rather than continuing to brain dump, you might be better off sticking to the steam mod until you get bored of the official map.

This is from the Steam version L

I need the beta patch to join updated server.

Try starting the game with beta patch, received an error. It gives me a link for help.

Click on the link, says it's either not there, or I don't have access..

Youpie!

Steam version of ArmA, or steam version of the mod?

I was hoping that the Steam Mod would have taken care of keeping the Beta patch up-to-date for you...

It's most likely telling you to get the Beta patch for ARMA 2. They're here, it's the one at the top in green.
When you select a server (before joining it) it'll tell you what version of DayZ it's running, as well as what version of ARMA 2 it's running. You can probably find a server that doesn't require the absolute latest ARMA 2 patch, but I'd imagine that by now most servers require at least something more than whatever version of ARMA 2 is installed by Steam.

It'd be Bohemia's decision whether or not to submit it to Valve as a patch that Steam would handle. I'm guessing that why they consider them beta patches instead of normal ones.

True, but there are other games via Steam that you can 'opt-in' to use the Beta version and it will auto-update to the latest beta as they roll out. Just Hoping for less manual steps is all. Not so much for myself, but the amount of time I've spent with non-technical friends trying to get this game/mod up and running is quite obscene

Again, that would be Bohemia's decision, not Rocket's. The reason DayZ doesn't handle patching ARMA 2 is that DayZ doesn't inherently require the beta patches. Whether they're needed or not is dependent upon the server you're trying to join. Finding a server that doesn't require a beta patch might be difficult though.

There hasn't been a new version of DayZ since late November, and I'd imagine they're working only on the standalone now, so the mod itself won't be getting another patch. I think they're putting it up on Steam now because it's as done as the mod is ever going to be. Using DayZ Commander or Play withSIX would still probably be the easiest way to have the most up to date files.

The DayZ mod still gets updated just not by rocket. There's a group of modders/coders from the community that releases updates for it every once in a while. The last one just came out a few weeks ago.

Must be a problem with the DayZ site then. It does list 1.7.5.1 as the newest release, but has Nov 21 as the "last updated" date.

I'm really enjoying the implementation of Bandit AI on some of the servers. Oso and I were playing on a Cherno map (recently shuttered) that had AI gunship patrols and a heavy presence at the NEAF. It was pretty fun be chased and harassed in the woods around Willow Lake, while getting the occasional sniper shot off.

The last couple of days we've been on an Oring map where the admin has doing a lot work on the AI experience. He's got a couple of groups of patrolling AI combing the map. He also has a fortified town with both entrenched and patrolling AI.

Anyone playing Invasion 44? Tried it a few times over the last coupla days. Pretty interesting, also a tamer group of people less interested in shooting on sight.

I tried it briefly with the Cherno map and the France map. I like all the new skins and weapons selections but I am getting some weird bugs still. Hopefully they update it soon!

So... Who's playing Breaking Point? This thing is solid a a f*cking rock, and the fog at night is incredible.

http://www.thezombieinfection.com/

It even has its own launcher.

Oh man - that write-up sounds pretty good. I haven't played this in months but that may pull me back in.

One thing I've noticed is that a) the fog makes it so you can move somewhat safer at night. Also, every night is moonlit. b) With a sprinkling of higher powered (but not scoped) long guns, and just a few more military spawn locations, it keeps combat from centering around Stary and NW airfield all the time. There's actually a lot to do in the NE airfield, among other places.

So, I'm messing around on the Canada servers if anyone is interested. I'm trying to put some time in around lunch every day.

I've played some Breaking Point but not much as of late, I've been playing DayZ Origins with the SimHQ guys I've been playing with for the last 6 months or so.

Taviana is just a better all around map than Cherno.

On top of that Origins gives you something to fight over other than guns, as there is base building involved and you have particular locations you have to get building supplies at, namely 2 quarries that you have to get rock from in order to build your houses and garages. There is a plethora of custom vehicles, including ones you can add armor plating too, as well as helicopters.

If you feel like giving it a try set your filter host to #GX #1 Tactical and we can try to hook up.

Magik13 and I have been putting in some time on this lately. It's a good balance of the risk/reward model for gearing up. Not too easy to get high-powered gear, but if you are willing to venture into some more dangerous areas you can at least get a payoff for your efforts. The addition of new buildings in various areas (hospital and firehouse in Zelenogorsk, for example) and a simple base-building concept make this a great mod for getting that old DayZ feel going.

I'll be online Saturday around 10am Pacific time, although might be test-driving Monaco multi-player for a bit. Would jump into Breaking Point if others are up for it, tho.
I'll check on Vent.

If no one is on Vent today around 1:30 CT I might give yer thing a go, Redhawk.

I'm on Breaking Point CA 30. Low on blood, near Berezhino. If anyone is around. Otherwise, might try to find someone on the official TS server for BP. I have blood bags.

Hate that I missed the action this weekend. I've been seeing videos posted about Breaking Point but I don't plan on jumping on by myself; just not as fun.

I'm south of Novy. If u wanna take a hike I'll meet up with you, Mountaineer.

Dammit. I've been waiting for standalone, but these new mod twists are calling me.

Uhm, i should check this thread more often apparently. Actually loaded up warz the other day to see if it had gotten any better....it hasn't, it's even worse, then i hated myself even more for thinking it might be worthy of a reload, ever....

This looks like a much more worthy thing to attempt....glad i checked this thread again!

I tried to do Breaking Point but must have messed something up. Tried downloading and running the launcher but got a lot of nothing.

Put aside and then caught up with other things. I must have become much too complacen with DayZ Commander

Is there some step(s) I'm missing or should I just try re-downloading ?

I've totally pushed this to the back of my mind. I was getting completely burned out with it. I'm just waiting for the stand-alone now, whenever that will be. The mod doesn't owe me anything though, first time I've put 250+ hours into a single game in many years.
