Wii U Catch-All

And a little interview for Lego City Undercover. And a promising quote indicating this wasn't stuck under the same timeline as other early WiiU games:

We had already started work on the technology for a proper open-world game, but with the arrival of the Wii U and its unique GamePad, that really opened up a lot of new ideas... gameplay ideas that suited us perfectly.

And if anyone had any question about it, it's a single player only game.

There's an HD version of Mighty Switch Force which I really enjoyed on the 3DS. I haven't had a chance to play the Wii U version, however.

That looks like my kind of dumb.

Would be nice if Amazon got the ZombieU bundle in. I'd probably buy that.

Amazon doesn't directly sell Nintendo hardware, FYI. Some kind of long-standing disagreement. You can get some stuff there from their partners for whom Amazon provides fulfillment but the price is usually a bit higher than MSRP.

The Wii U version of Dragon Quest X has been dated for Japan, March 30th. I really, really hope this title comes stateside sometime.

I'll add that to the list.

Well that explains that.

What a coincidence. Right on the heels of the Rayman Legends "2nd Demo" information (coming in April, consisting of online challenge mode which will be updated weekly, as well as promises to add characters and bosses and levels to the game now that it's delayed), Ubisoft put on a one week sale on eShop.

Is this Ubisoft in crisis management mode? Seems like it.

F-Zero is now just $0.30 on the eShop channel for the next month. If that's not good enough we get Super Metroid NEXT MONTH!!!!

Does that mean Balloon Fight's promotion is over? I thought I had a couple more days to stop procrastinating and get the eShop setup on our Wii U

Is that the original F-Zero, or the GameCube one?

Oh, who am I kidding, I suck at racing games and every F-Zero is the hardest thing ever.

But hey, Super Metroid! That's my kind of metroid.

Totes getting both F-Zero and Super Metroid.

I haven't been paying attention. Can you play your Wii VC console games on the Wii U yet natively?

What does "natively" mean in that context? It's not like you need to hack your Wii U to run VC games. You just need to hit the Wii button and wait for a 15 second load.

Anyway, yes you still need to go into the Wii Menu. Except the two games they've released specifically for Wii U, which are part of a pilot program leading to further VC integration during the upcoming Spring firmware update.

Rumor has it the ZombiU system bundles have the firmware update pre-installed. LobsterMobster, did you need to perform a 60-90 minute firmware update to get at any of the online features?

Do you think that all subsequent Wii U VC games will be released the same way, as stand alone apps? Or will they be part of another application, kind of like Zen Pinball and individually downloadable tables?

This. Disregard what I said earlier, if this is the case for you, LobsterMobster.

Sweet--just ordered it and it's in processing! Should have it by next week

Sometime this summer they're supposed to launch the Virtual Console channel/app for the WiiU, and subsequent VC games will be released in that. These anniversary games are stand-alone apps presumably because they don't have the full VC ready to go. I know you can pay ~50¢-$1 to upgrade a Wii VC game to a WiiU VC game, but I don't know if these anniversary games will move to the VC channel or if they'll stay stand-alone.

If I have both my Wii and Wii U hooked up to the same TV, can they use the same sensor bar or do I need to set up both? Which reminds me, are my Wii controllers compatible with the Wii U? In stores I've seen a lot of Wii U wiimotes and nunchucks and stuff but they all say they're backward compatible with the Wii and look exactly like those on the Wii.

My WiiU is out for delivery right now, so I shall let you know this evening (or if ZombiU is really super good, tomorrow).

The sensor bar connector is the same, so you'd just have to unplug from one and plug into the other.

When I setup my WiiU, I didn't even bother with running the line for the new bar, just reused the old one from the Wii.

All my old controllers still work with the WiiU, just have to sync them using the red button near the batteries.

That's what we did as well. I think you'll need to sync the controllers back to the Wii if you want to use them on the old system.

I know there is a Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate thread already, so sorry for the cross post, BUT: The demo for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate comes out today on the eShop! Wii U and 3DS.

It's not up yet, but it's looking like 12 noon EST is when the eShop refreshes for NA. The Europe eShop has it already.

Or just make sure the system it's plugged into is turned on and it'll work with both. The "sensor bar" doesn't actually sense anything. It's 2 inferred lights that are sensed by a camera in the controller and used as reference points. So long as something is powering those lights the remote will work. Heck, so long as there are 2 inferred sources in the right places the controller will work. I've heard tales of people using a pair of candles in front of their TV. I know a guy who has a custom-built bar that's got the lights farther apart which makes the remote work naturally when the Wii is projected on a large screen.

Don't forget, if you order BOTH from Amazon, there is a $20 discount.

Does the Monster Hunter demo contain multiplayer? Seems like a good time for me to finally check this series out.

Somewhere, back in my brain, I knew that it's just IR lights and not actually "sensing" anything, but now:

The two candles trick was pretty popular when the system first released.

Wish I knew. I doubt it'll have the online play but the Wii demo for Tri had local arena battles.

The series doesn't demo great because a lot of the draw is building your character and skill over time.
