Don't dice towers take the fun out of you know rolling a fist full of dice?

Yes but they replace it with the fun of feeding a fist full of dice into a dice tower!

I've never been much of a one for towers, I'll be honest. Although that plastic thing with the plunger is boss.

I used to have that thing! I'm not sure that I ever played the game it came with, but I sure used the dice tower a lot.

So I played Legendary (the Marvel Ascension clone) and I'm not sure I'm sold on it. We didn't have time for a full game, but I felt echos of the Marvel Heroes game. It's a little hard to put into words, but it seems to have too many layers of complexity. To me, one of the things that makes Ascension so great is that it is so simple to play and set up. In Legendary, you have hero types and teams that play off one another, wounds (which is kind of cool deck bloat mechanic but the wounds can be good or bad depending on the hero), themes, innocent bystanders, and super villians. There just seems to be an awful lot going on.

I didn't hate on it, but I also didn't feel that it was an incredible play experience either.

I picked up the game a couple of years ago at a thrift shop, primarily for the dice tower although my son and I did play it a couple of times.

In case anyone is interested we have just put our RavenCon charity auction up on BGG. All the money for this auction goes directly to Child's Play. There are items donated from Wizards of the Coast, Plaid Hat Games, Kelly Brightbill, ACD Distribution, and Ravenwood Castle. Check it out and if something suits your fancy help us raise money for Child's Play.

Picked up Android Netrunner a couple of weeks ago. Played a few times so far and it's pretty good. Especially when drinking.

Would you like the chance to re-phrase that?

sure.

My wife and I played Dominion last night with a new gaming couple. They had most of the expansions, so we played with a combination of Cornucopia and Dark Ages. It was brutal, and a good example of player interaction. The major mechanic was the knights, who cause all other players to flip the top 2 cards of their deck and trash one that costs between 3 and 6. If another knight gets trashed this way, both knights are trashed. Lots of low cards got kept, but most in the middle were eventually trashed. The winning score was 16. As I said, brutal.

On the introductory side of things we played Tsuro last night for the first time. Everyone enjoyed it including the kids and they appreciated it wasn't a heavy rules game. Definitely a light game but fun, quick and a nice way to just spend some time together.

I played Dungeon Petz over the weekend with my daughter. It was a lot of fun. It looked complicated, but the phases break down easily. I won, but my daughter started to get the hang of things toward the end. She just needs to get used to planning ahead.

Niiiice! Me want!

EDIT: Heck, you need to supply your own pennies... I have some left after a trip to the US a few years ago, but this might not be enough.

I wonder if the local equivalent (a.k.a. grosz) would work? Or a euro-penny?

I just bought a combo pack of slight box damaged unopened board games for $90 - Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers, Dominion, Powergrid, Puerto Rico & Torres.

YAY!

*edit typo

That's a Hell of a good deal Each one of those is a winner.

That's a heck of a deal. It's like a starter pack for Eurogames. You also have a game for each number of players: Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers (2), Dominion (3), Torres (4), Puerto Rico (5), and Power Grid (6).

I was pretty happy to find such an awesome deal. Best of all I was telling my wife of the awesome deal, then she asked why I had not bought it yet.

So what expansion to Ascension would ya'll recommend? I'm thinking of getting one to start with; one that hopefully doesn't dramatically change the way the game is played.

Ascension is designed around the idea of a "block" structure, meaning the releases are structured as a large standalone expansion followed by a smaller expansion for the latest large expansion. Each block tends to have slight changes to the mechanics, while the core rules are the same. For example, in the Chronicle of the Godslayer block mechana constructs tend to stay in play and do something every turn. However, in Storm of SOuls block their abilities only fire if you play another mechana construct. There's more obvious mechanics changes like the Storm of Souls block is the only one with "Event" cards (similar to the "Planechase" variant in M:tG), while the upcoming Rise of Vigil block is the only one with the new "Energy" resource. Regardless of the differences, since the basic rules are all the same you can mix the blocks together if you want.

I personally like Storm of Souls over Chronicle of the Godslayer. SoS is more interesting since it has a bit more card interaction and the events mechanic makes the game a bit more varied. Plus the mechana faction was rebalanced which makes them less dominant than the first block (Chronicle of the Godslayer and Return of the Fallen).

I agree with where Shoptroll is going but would add that Immortal Heroes is my fav so far and I enjoy playing it with Storm of Souls as it was intended. Adding the change event cards and the Soul Gems worked out very well.

I still haven't played Immortal Heroes yet because Playdek won't get around to it until June for the iOS version. From what I've seen it looks very cool though.

Ouch, $175 to get the game with minis. Okay, how about just the block game—ack, $40 to ship to Canada. Okay, maybe I'll just get some minis on their own—oof, only ships to the US.

Well, I'll keep an eye on the stretch goals as they get hit to see if they sweeten the pot, and keep playing Conflict of Heroes in the meantime.
