Giant Bomb Bomb-All

Yeah, the Giant Bomb login page (https://auth.giantbomb.com/login/) doesn't show any such email address. I'll forward my email to the address listed above. Whee.

Edit: I am now able to log in. I received password reset instructions from that email address--but they still didn't work for me. Then I tried using Internet Explorer, and it worked. That seemed odd, so I cleared my browser cache in Chrome and was able to log in there as well.

I suspect some sort of cached javascript issue or the like (and have reported it as a possibility.) So if you have a similar problem, consider trying to clear your cache.

Chrome was definitely the issue, and as a web developer I actively discourage anyone from using Google Chrome as long as IE8 isn't your only alternative. Chrome's caching behavior is extremely aggressive and ignores all but the most brute-force cache control methods, causing all sorts of issues with anything under rapid development.

Chrome and I had a good fling for the first year it was around, but it wasn't meant to be.

The new video player keeps dropping the resolution when I watch...videos. Since there doesn't seem to be any way to manually change the settings, this is getting very annoying.

Under settings, it says Youtube and it's for members only. Any idea what that's about?

If you choose progressive, you can select the video quality. If you choose Streaming, then the quality will change depending on how fast it sees your connection. I do not have the "Youtube" issue you describe.

Ah ha! Thanks!

The Youtube thing is just confusing. I wouldn't call it an issue. I'm not a member so it might be something members can't see. If I move my mouse cursor over Youtube it says "members only". I'm confused what that is.

Could you use the youtube player before? It never showed up as an option before unless I was logged in so I assume it's for members only (even though you can just go to youtube).

I could not! That explains what it is. Thanks!

Doak sent me this (via Ryan's twitter):

That's probably just because everybody who was subscribed to it had to resubscribe because they broke the rss feed.

Well that's just special.

Sure am glad I'm paying for this.

They're extending premium subs for two weeks due to stability issues.

It's crazy they've split premium membership benefits, where monthly subscriptions still see ads...

Have they? I must've missed that news.

That was always the case, even back in the Whiskey Media days. Yeah, I always found it odd because every web site I've ever seen that offers a paid service always touts "NO ADS!" as the first feature.

Aside from all the website shenanigans, "Unprofessional Fridays" is my new favorite segment on the site. Since they've all had long histories working in the industry, it's cool to just to see random games from 1999 that they can go into long tangents on.

I think the new "A Grown Man In His Underpants Tells You About..." is a genius name for a video series

Still can't log in atm, in discussions with Dave Snieder to get THIS FIXED >:(

Yeah, like my favourite content from the past was when they would just play a bunch of old video games for an afternoon, especially since they have all been in the industry for so long. I feel like they are at their best when they don't plan anything out and just go with it.

My favourite stuff too. My first home console was a PS2 so, while being aware of most, I'm fascinated by the history of these games. Even cooler than Jeff has so many stories about each game and console.

Is there any solid path for getting this fixed? I can't login either. Asking it to send me my password is doing no good as well. Thinking of just letting it expire at this rate.

Right now the only way is to contact Dave directly through [email protected] but as of yesterday...

Dave[/url]]To those of you with actual login issues, it's our number one priority and we should have a fix on the way shortly. Don't worry if you haven't gotten an email response from me yet, it's not that I haven't received them, it's just that I'm waiting for a code hot-fix before I send out instructions.

I've had it escalated to an engineer... I think it's an issue with the "change password" page not taking the new password...

It was over the summer where they recapped all the old Olympic video games during London 2012 .

I missed that over the summer. I LOVED that 1992 Barcelona game on the Genesis. My buddy and I spent many a weekend playing that game over and over again. I never owned it, but I probably rented it from the local Blockbuster a dozen times.

Oh man--yeah me too. My buddy and I constantly tried to figure out how to get a decent score in the diving event. It never happened

So it turns out it was a Chrome dev build issue that stopped me from logging in correctly.

Now that all sorted, I'm a happy boy

I figured it out by accident one night, then we both got good at it. We would routinely set world records for diving. I was always terrible at hurdles, and could never beat my buddy at swimming.

I'm really liking the addition of the new Interview Dumptruck podcast feed. It's basically previously done interviews that he recorded and just posts up in raw form. The first episode was for a story he did a while back on a Kickstarter that failed its second funding attempt just over $20 short of the mark. Some of his best work are feature interviews so being able to hear them all like this is pretty cool.

Brad is on the Idle Thumbs podcast this week, if you're interested in hearing him blend in with some of IT's trademark silliness. There were times when Chris and Jake were doing a typical Thumbs rant and Brad was dead silent, as if he didn't know what to do with them. All in all, a pretty good listen.

I'd love to have GB/IT crossover episode. That would be interesting.

Oh, yes! But to be honest I'm even more excited about the prospect of IT covering Tokyo Crash Mobs after Brad mentioned it to them this week.
